MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 3:56 PMManage to see Alien on the big screen. Top of the art 4k cinema.
It was shown at a cinema in oslo, norway. A cinema who show old films.
It was fantastic.
All the sounds you did not hear on tv.
The texture of nostromo.
The beatiful score.
The small little details in sound and picture.
The tiny details all the way back in the shot.
The sounddesign on LV (storm)
Incredible in every possible way.
Im 31 years old an getting to see Alien on the big screen has always been a dream!

Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 4:25 PMSaw the 2003 rerelease at an AMC in Chicago. It was that viewing that pushed Alien past Aliens as my favorite film of all time, and it's been so ever since.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 4:35 PMYes.
The only thing that has dated is the mattepaint in the beginning. Else it's incredible that it has not aged at all. The scene where Brett wandering alone is amazing on the big screen. And the cinematography is stunning.
The mattepaint where the eggs are. The big total shot of the room under the sj is state of the art 30 years later!!

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 4:47 PM"Aliens" is a very good movie, but very much a creature of the specific time at which it was made. "Alien" is truly timeless.
As an aside, one other thing for me, is that in spite of the "Queen" animatronic/miniature sequence in "Aliens" ( which really works, IMO ) I never thought any of the creature effects in that movie worked as effectively as the sequence where it glides up to Lambert, or particularly, when it "wakes up" in the Narcissus.....talk about creepy and just,......alien.... Anyway, I think selling a guy in a rubber suit is more challenging than doing it with camera tricks.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 12:00 AMLOL! I worked in a DRIVE IN when Alien originally came out! I must have seen it 50 times the first year at the drive in and theatre. When Aliens came out in 1986 I took the day off from work and saw it 3 times the first day. Greatest scifi movie/sequel combo ever made.

MemberFacehuggerApr-15-2012 2:35 AMLucy Indeed
VHS on a round screen TV in 1982 for me!
I was 10 at the time and was forced to watch Alien by my 14 year old sister and 3 of her friends, with no pillow!
They had all watched it the day before and thought it would be funny to make me watch it all.
Little did they know thier plan backfired and they introdued me to the best sci fi films of all time.
I just hope Prometheus brings back some of the tension that has not been matched again to date......

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 7:21 AMSaw Aliens at Woodfield in Schaumburg Il.We had to wait in line back then!My friends and I would take turns standing in line and going to the car to partake in some good old fashioned weed and booze. My friend called Burke an asshole at the top of his lungs when he turned the camera off and almost got us kicked out

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 4:16 PMI went to see a double bill at the cinema in 1987 of Alien and Aliens
there is no doubt in my mind which one is superior, that is why I'm glad to see him back directing prometheus.
I have seen blade runner about seven times at the cinema and you also don't appreciate how hi def this movie is (considering one of the showings early on was the rare 70mm production) until you see it in the cinema
travelled 30 miles to see apocalpse now but thats a different story
