MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 7:53 PMmy friend John Harris's brother in law worked on the original alien movie as a set supervisor. there were a few deleted and censored scenes he told us about. the resin that crew members are secreted to the landing legs is dna changing and turns members into egg shaped cocoons, it was also supposed to be hand spun from the spineret tubes on the aliens back but they couldn't get consistency right and the bit where the alien lowers down behind brett, had the alien dangling from resin from its back tubes just like a spider on a thread next to the hanging landing legs. It was too expensive and hard to make work. One last thing, Giger wanted to put maggots under the latex dome of the alien head to make the skin crawl and move but Scott thought it was a step too far.
the set already stank from rotting cow bones used in the space jockey scene

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 9:50 PMi had long suspected that the tailpipes on the alien's back served
a purpose. personally, i felt they were used a suction grips to cling
to vertical surfaces, hearing that they were meant for secreting that
bio-former is really great to hear
had never heard about the maggots, that definitely
would have added to an already unique design / concept
thanx for this insider info fishkettlebanana...!

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 9:49 PMThe maggot part I knew 'cause it's on the SE Quadrilogy Commentary discs but the rest was all new, thanks man. Your Friend John's Brother is one lucky guy to have been able to be a part of it all. Again, thanks for sharing man.

AdminPraetorianApr-16-2012 10:01 PM@fishkettlebanana; That Alien Cocoon scene is sooo scary! I am glad to hear the context now. It's like a spun DNA changer, awesome!
Here it the scene if anyone wants to see it. Just the cocooned Dallas part.

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 10:07 PMI always thought that the tubular projections from the back of the alien were part of it's respiratory system, some kind of gas exchange mechanism.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 3:20 AMI had read about the maggots....but I hadn't heard about the other two things. But they do make perfect sense to be for that purpose. Thanks for sharing

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 7:09 PMCould any one go into detail about the mutagen resin or supply a source that they got that information from? Having just learned about it but finding nothing mentioned any where via an internet search it's just too interesting to pass up with out asking more about it.
Thank you.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 11:02 AMI've looked for 20 years now for any pics on the failed resin tube hanging scene. sometimes you can't find everything in a book or on the web, and I have tried, but hearing it from the set supervisor is good enough for me... still, I would love to find just a trace and not think that history has a finite memory of everything that went on behind the scenes of alien
