MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 11:58 AMI know that my girlfriend tried to get into this movie since she knew how big of an ALIEN and ALIENS fan i was....... She started reading about some pf the more "disturbing" aspects of the film and told me that there was jsut no way.
Guess my real question is would you anyone along(bf,gf, or friend) if they werent really in on what the movie was?

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 12:34 PMi did show alien to aunts , grandfathers , nephews , dogs and cats ...and no one saw it disturbing ( shocking and scaring for sure !) ...really the disturbing aspects are there if you want to see them ( and im not talking if they are there or not )
And i know for sure that my mother and father ( 60 and above ) will run to see prometheus .... while the gf is more interested to do disturbing things with me instead searching them in movies :p .

AdminEngineerApr-21-2012 1:45 PMMy girlfriend never stops hearing about Prometheus and pretty much knows as much as all of us. Thankfully she's super excited to see the film and wants to go with me to see it on opening night. She loves sci-fi as well, so I'm a very lucky man. Haha

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 2:07 PMI am male. When I was 12, I convinced my aunt (in her late 30’s at the time) to take me to the original Alien. We went to a matinée around mid-day. The MANAGER of the theater came out very much on purpose and advised her against taking me in to see it. But, nonetheless, we went in and sat. There were perhaps 7 other people in the theater. By 1/2 way through that number had dwindled to 3 or 4. People just couldn't take the intensity of it.
(Aside: My aunt is the biggest cat lover in the world.)
Every time the xeno showed up to make things more interesting, my aunt buried her face in her hands and was silent while the VERY LOUD mayhem transpired on the screen. After almost every episode of this, she would keep her eyes covered and repeat (rather frantically), "Is the cat OK?!!, Is the cat OK?!!?? I'm laughing out loud right now writing this. I don't think she ever saw even a glimpse of the xeno. I will have this amazing humorous blessing with me the rest of my life. She is in her 70’s and we still laugh about it together every few years too.
Xeno + Jones + aunt = eternal hilarity!!
ROFLOL still...

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 2:12 PMBeen married for for almost ten years, saw the latest trailer for Prome' attached to Wrath of the Titans a few weeks ago and the only complaint from the old lady was the loud siren sound in the trailer, plus my eight year old son is crazy about Alien and Predator.

AdminEngineerApr-21-2012 2:15 PM@Xenophobia - Not a chance! She's a keeper!
@sukkal - That's hilarious. Haha

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 2:33 PMAll my female friends are in love with Michael Fassbender right now, so there's no keeping them away opening night. ;)

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 2:42 PMPersonally, I don’t like going anywhere with a person who’s not happy to be there, dude or chick. I’m gonna catch this flick with a group of cousins and friends…all male. That’s just the way we like to do the opening night thing…for events like this. And when it comes to male comradery… we don’t like mixing “cotton candy” with our “beer.”
And you know what? They don’t want us at their flippin’ winno, scrapbook parties either…so it all works out. Luckily, none of my women have ever been hardcore SciFi fans, so it’s never been an issue. Besides, I find most serious SciFi chicks to be kinda creepy in general…and more terrifying looking than the Alien itself. SCREEEEEEEECH!

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 3:23 PMI'm not a "sci-fi chick", but I am sooo looking forward to this film. BTW, most sci-fi dudes I know are homely and pasty, Neurion. So I'm like you; I don't date sci-fi fans.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 3:26 PMLOL, indeed Prom_queen. I don't think Neurion really thought that one through before writing it.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 3:56 PMMy wife and I are both ALIEN fans and she's 5'4 with blonde hair and blue eyes and I'm 6'1 talk dark and handsome.
I had to throw that out there before the fact we are MMORPG players. (Yes, WoW but not since last October - Diablo 3 is next!)
I wouldn't go see this movie without her for anyone.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 3:59 PMOH YEAH, and I have played/linked this trailer for everyone I know and everyone wants to see it...male and female.
It has nothing to do with male or female - it's "fan or not a fan".
Gender isn't even secondary to the argument.

Pvt. Hudson
MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 4:30 PM@AS - That depends on the people I guess but I'd do it. :)
Overall I'd have to say no to the date movie thing though.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 5:31 PMYay, Pvt. Hudson! You're my new hero! Thank you for acknowledging the fact that gender should be a non-issue here. I love this site, but I hate those occasional negative or derogatory comments toward females, either in general or in regards to the actresses in this movie. Nobody would come on here and post racist comments and consider it okay. Same difference, IMO.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 5:44 PMsame here, there was a WAVE of sexist comments directed tward women recently and it bothered me a lot. seems to have passed so far, i hope it doesnt keep happening because i love this site too.

Oh, make no mistake juston, I wrote what I meant...and I meant what I wrote. I believe that we are allowed to have our own opinions. Is this not so?
@Prom_queen
It's shame if you took my comment personal. After all, I did write "MOST SciFi chicks." If it applies to yourself...well...bummer! By the way, I agree with you on the homely, pasty guys comment.
Cheers,
N

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 6:24 PMNeurion, sure you can have your own opinion, but making generalizations and stereotypes about any group of people, then whining, "it's my own opinion," is a cop-out. It only demonstrates either your youth or your immaturity.
I didn't take it personally. This has nothing to do with a person's or people's looks, especially mine. I do alright, baby ;) Like I said, this is about negative generalizations or stereotyping of others.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 6:31 PM@ Prom & Bella *nods* Glad to be of service. :)
I kinda missed the part of the OP's message about bringing someone to the movie who didn't know what they were seeing.
I would totally do it for one reason. When my friend and I went to see Event Horizon all I knew about it was it's a movie in space - seriously. I didn't even know the name of the ship was Event Horizon - we knew literally ZERO about this film. I can't tell you how awesome it was to watch that movie that way especially considering the direction it takes - so original!
We both left that movie with blank stares and he had a nightmare that night hahaha - SO funny! I love when movies have power like that and if you thought Even Horizon was good just wait till you get through Prometheus.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 6:39 PMAh, the game is afoot.
Well, sorry about that BDonna, but I'm afraid some of my opinions are GENERAL, and some are specific.
It does appear, that it is you…who are making this dumb little thing an issue/crusade.
As far as never being able to “have” you, you’ll have to post a photo of yourself before I lament that one. That is…if you have the courage of your convictions.
