Unanswered Question from Alien

And "where did those creatures come from?" After seeing Ridley Scott reference the "unanswered question" from Alien as being his impetus for making Prometheus I am left to wonder if in fact this is what he is referring to??? I would love to hear any different theories on what the unanswered question might be from other fans. This was the key unresolved issue for me as a fan of the movie BUT I would really like to hear other ideas. Prometheus is looking to be truly EPIC in its scope and scale and it seems that Scott and his team are building up the pre-release "tension" in a brilliant way. My hope is that this film will prompt other SERIOUS efforts at meaningful and "philosophically based" science fiction films in the coming years.

It will be. Prometheus will lead to the recreation of Forbidden Planet. Scott will delve deeper into the mystery of the meaning of life, creation and the Universe itself using W-Y, Terrafrorming, Planet Colonization, Ancient Aliens, Engineers and Colonial Marines.

"off course its about the ship and the space jockey. check the trailer again."
I don't know about that Korpen...according to Ridley and the cast during the Q&A after the 15 min preview in London, the planet in 'Prometheus' is NOT LV-426, BUT LV-223...therefore it is not the same derelict....at least it seems that way........

If we are to assume that the derelict and the space-jockey(s) we see in Prometheus are NOT the same derelict and space-jockey we see in Alien, then, the eternal mystery of Alien's derelict and space jockey will remain just that: A mystery.
To be honest, I think a lot of fans would prefer it that way.
However, perhaps the specific ship and space jockey of Alien will not be fully referenced until the potential sequel of Prometheus becomes a reality. And that is not a guarantee.

@Graphix
I do think that some mystery will remain after those credits roll, but I do think we will implicitly understand the origin of the derelict in Alien.

*big shocker*
why is it so inconceivable that there are more than one derelict spacecraft? If they are terraformers and if they created life on Earth, surely they've terraformed other planets? the story takes place on LV-223 but i'm sure there will be reference to LV-426 which probably orbits LV-223

My only answer to this is because I am guilty of what you say and it is/was appeared to be soooooooo very lost and from another world when we first encountered it...but most importantly...unique...that for their to be two of them not made, but in the same area of space at the same time that way would seem "off" to me.

Well lets just look at what Alien showed us and was about dont forget it was not about Alien Xeno running around.
We had in order of least shown to most...
1) LV426 Planetoid/Moon
2) Derelict Space Ship *
3) Pilot in the Chair * (Space Jockey)
4) The Eggs/Xeno Cycle
5) The Nostromos and her Crew.
6) A Andriod.
Aliens touched upon..
7) The Xeno Cycle more and Xeno Hive concept
8) Weyland Yutani was involved more.
9) Marines.
10) Colony on LV426/Teraforming.
Now the unanswered questions from Alien was....
1) Who was the Pilot?
2) How did the Eggs get on the Ship and why?
3) How did he get that hole in his Chest?
4) Who created the Xeno and why or how did the SJ come across them.
5) What was the ships Purpose and why did it get there and let of that becon.
I am sure Ridley went to answer those but he saw also so much more that he could do with.... Who the Space Jockey was, where did they come from and more about Weyland Yutani and their agenda and story as opposed to make a whole movie about how/what/where and when the Xeno came into existance.

What we have to remember also is the hints that Ridley has given and while he wants this movie to be seen as a stand alone movie a movie that would concentrate on more than just seeing Xenos and Face Huggers running around, he did also say that.....
The events at the end of the movie (last 8 mins) will provide a direct link or explanation to those questions regarding Alien.
The fans of Aliens etc will get their answers/wish and be satisfied/pleased at the end of the movie.
The Movie is where the Xenos Mommy meets Daddy.
The end of the movie we will see Alien DNA.
So for him to say we see no Alien DNA through this movie, doe she mean Shaws Squid, the Mutants the Mural dont show Alien DNA?
Nope i think he means that at the end of the movie we will see either a Egg, Face Hugger or Xeno maybe not directly but at least the progenitor to them. In otherwords something that we would make a more direct connection to than the other Organisms we see in this movie.

I've always looked at the Sjs as leaning towards a benevolent race as evidenced by their "warning beacon" in Alien. Whatever happened (the case being most likely: their bio-weapon turned on them and were forced to crash land on LV246) they (I assume the pilot SJ that probably wakes out of a coma and realized he's been face-hugged) did do the right thing and set a "stay-away/warning" beacon although mistaken by at least one space-travelling-race/species (who knows if any other space-travelling-race/species detected/explored/got-face-hugged) for a distress call. Ripley, sure enough, was able to figure out that it was a warning (Ash, Mother and the Company knew too, I'm sure, and assumed warning meant something nasty they could use in their bio-weapons division).
I think the big payoff in Pro will be if somehow we see THE derelict/bomber in Aliens headed to Earth loaded with cargohold of all those eggs (Alien matte painting of huge hold with endless path of egg holds) and someone on the Pro sneaks aboard and thwarts the plan by using the bio-weapon against the derelict's crew....then it is they they set said distress/warning signal that the Nostromo runs across. All along, the company knew EXACTLY what bio-weapon they were searching for like a bit of missing property.

@abordoli
I've had that theory too and it would make sense with the scene in alien where ripley sees the company's order. A specific company order relating to the alien lifeform.
