sukkalApril 23, 2012I don't have time to translate the entire article now, but this seemed relevant to me on the SPECULATION front. Others may have seen this or something similar to this already, but this—stated so explicitly—was a bit new for me:

Lindelof also wanted to reaffirm that this film functions independently from the others and can be seen (watched) on its own. “Ridley's made many comments during the development of this project about how to connect it with the original Alien series, or its relationship with the Space Jockey character. On that front, part of the enjoyment of watching the film is going to be how we intended to make those connections. But, I don't believe that any of us would have ended up doing our jobs well if this film couldn't hold its own. If you're a fan of the originals, we've left Easter eggs in various locations for you to find. But, the idea of making a complete connection, in an incredibly profound way, could have robbed this film of its originality. Perhaps there is a way to achieve both things, or at least in part that was our original intent.”
