First post, but long time reader. Love all the insight and opinions from the community and props to the staff for making all of this happen. After following this wonderful site for many months, like many of us have, and after searching the threads, I don't believe anyone has mentioned the medical syringe in Shaw's hand as she's stumbling/crawling through the ships corridor.
Apologies if others have posted on this, and cheers!

The handle is different from the synapse re-establisher's. Shaw may be subject to one after which she wakes up swinging.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Nope I don't think it's a weapon I bet she dies during the procedure to remove Squidward now that I've looked at the trailers again for about the 17 billionth time :-D THAT would certainly be a twist!

Every other Alien movie has shown the host die after implantation and in Aliens the host, in this case, Marachek, John. J died during the procedure to remove the face hugger.
These creature all have strikingly similar lifecycle patterns. Brilliant defence mechanisms. You dont dare kill em'.
The synapse reestablisher could allow Shaw to cheat death where many others have died. Though this organism visually differs from a facehugger the same basic principles of capturing, inhabiting, impregnating and eventually killing the host are the same.
"Synapse Reestablisher, through precise, minute electrical innervation, awakens dormant neurons in the brain tissue of deceased or dying patients".

@cypher
I'm not so sure that Shaw dies after the c-section/operation.
We clearly see the wound when she's crawling through the corridor with synapse reestablisher in hand, and the next frame that we know of is of Shaw collapsing before the three gents, one of whom is speculated as Weyland.
I think she has something up her sleeve in that scene... especially after having to endure the agony that just transpired in the Med Pod.
