MemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 3:37 PMAccording to the bible:
The Nephilim,or Rephaim, where big guys(maybe giants) who came
to earth to mate with human females or Nephilim may refer to the offsprings of that kind of mating.
It is implied that one of the reasons for the flood was to extinct the Nephilim.
A possible connection to Prometheus:
Why such a developed society would wait for human to visit it
and not pay a visit again.
Options:
1.they are extinct.
2.Some force(godly) banished it from earth.
if the latter is correct we now know why they leave clues for humans to come to them and not the other way around.
Their porpuse might be mating with humans(biological-engineering or otherwise).
Moreover, what is implied to be the human motivation for this crossbreeding?
The answer:trying to extended their lifespan beyond 120 years...
which in biblical terms means - eternal life.
As a reply i posted below the King James bible reference(those issues were
confirmed in the hebrew bible - so mistranslation is not the case)

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 3:43 PMInteresting story idea, but I don't think the Bible reference is completely correct.
I don't want to start a scriptural debate on the open forum, but if you would PM me the verse I would appreciate it.

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 3:56 PMThere are so many symbolic references to Bible prophecy in this movie. I wrote a crazy rant about this topic just last week on facebook.

King james version:
the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
the bold(giants) is in hebrew named 'Nephilim' - meaning ,those who camefell from above.

MemberDeaconMay-01-2012 4:29 PMYes the stories of the Nephlim could be connected, its also beleaved that the Nephlim are also connected to the reasons behind the other cultures beleaf in more than one God.
Nephlim are the children of the Demons.
I am sure Ridley would be using many aspects from many religons and many religons have a lot of connections with each other.
I dont think they would go fully the route of the Bible though, as there is some bizare stories in that book. And there is a lot that just dont really add up but thats for another day lol.

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 6:15 PMI think this movie will have elements from many world religions/mythologies. We've already seen many different influences + the pictograms from multiple cultures, so the Bible/Judeo-Christian beliefs are certainly not out of the question. Good observations, I know many people believe the Raphaim and the Nephillim were the same. They are related for sure, but the Raphaim were the ones who came down first and had dominion over the oceans i.e. they can be compared to Atlantis and that flood story... In the Dead Sea Scrolls it says the Raphaim were creating some of the hybrid creatures that the flood was supposed to also wipe out.
In the Greek myths the ruler of Atlantis is a God like the Olympians and the brother of Zeus, both of them are offspring of the Titans.
Poseidon is an interesting character that can be related to Lucifer in quite a few ways, and to Satan because of the Triton/pitchfork. The Atlanteans are implied to have vanished sometime during the Titan-God war. Guess who they supported. In the bible, the Raphaim are the brothers of the Nephillim/fallen angels, but can be compared to the myths of Atlantis in many ways because of the mention of coming from the water and having some sort of mythical culture that was already present on Earth. The Egyptians referred to them simply translated as "those who came from the waters". African tribes have legends about tall sea-faring beings who brought mermaid-like hybrid beings with them. It's exactly these sort of cross-cultural comparisons I'm expecting this movie to imply. I also think many of these myths will turn out to be true in the movie and end up being related to the Engineers activities in the past. Shaw and Holloway don't believe the myths, but Weyland always has. Also thinking the flood could have been a way to clean up the after effects of the bioweapons in the ancient past, until the weapon grew out of the Engineers control.

MemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 8:22 PMI'm sure the reason Shaw's character is so religious is to point out the biblical connections throughout the film......and of course I'm gonna roll my eyes when I here the words "God created man in his own image" because you know it's coming, lol
