2D Release

Just been trying to get tickets for the opening night of Prometheus only to find out that only the 3D version will be available in my area (or indeed in the whole of South Wales). As someone who can't watch 3D films due to motion sickness/balance issues this is a great disappointment. I sent an email to the Odeon chain to enquire about this and they stated "ODEON would love to be able to show all the latest releases in both formats however this is ultimately a decision made by the film distributor.". They could not give me any indication of whether the 2D version will be screened or not. Does this mean that some of us may have to wait for the Blu-Ray release before we can see the most anticipated film of this, or indeed, many other years? Any views?

oh wow...i hope you don't have to wait THAT long, most likely, there will be a short run of the 2D format that you require at least i hope so for you

ugh :/ i hope i dont have to wait longer for 2D. i complained before that i am legally blind with weird eyeball issues and the 3D glasses dont work over my own glasses very well. i hope 3D wont be the new thing now :/ my depth perception is already completely off in the real 3 dimensional world so i gotta miss out on watching movies too? i have a hard time walking down stairs because i cant accurately judge the distance, so i dont think 3D can work for me even if it was as true to life as possible.

I get the same thing with the motion sickness. I tried to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D and ended up puking all over the place, not to mention my date at the time. Not a good start, that one........... :-S

That really sucks for you indeed. in my town there are two Big cinemas where they always offer Both 2d and 3d versions of a movie. i usually watch 2d because i dont Really care for 3d in a good movie And its quite exhausting for my Eyes.

awww cypher! that sucks! last time i hurled on someone it was his own fault. but yeah, if i try to put the weird bulky new 3D glasses over my glasses everything is all weird and contorted the wrong way. if i take my glasses off and only use the 3D ones it is nothing but black and grey blobs. meh! what happened to the old blue and red 3D paper glasses? i could put those over my glasses fine and they worked.

i think 3d can only work for certain kind of films. I saw the latest toy story in 3D, it was amazing. I do feel sorry for cypher, and i know the pain aswell. I to went to see alice in wonderland 3D, horrible.

i think id trade :/ i would like to be able to see it clearly enough to get sick then to see nothing at all but grey blobs. but just to trade ONCE, for all i know cyphers sick feeling is way way worse then my "blind wtf is going on" movie experience. i dont want to trade for something worse! i have to follow the ferengi rules of acquisition after all.

I'm just amazed that this situation has arisen. If I lived in a small rural village I could understand the position but I live in a major city with 2 multiplex cinemas, and a further 3 multiplex cinemas within a 50 mile radius, all of which usually screen both formats of 2D/3D but are not showing Prometheus 2D. Aside from my personal disappointment this is surely going to result in lost revenue for the movie as people who either can't or don't want to see the 3D version can't see Prometheus.

I'm like you, I don't wear glasses but I HATE 3D movies, makes me sick, it doesn't add anything to the film. Looks like a stage with layers than 3D. Also since 3D doesn't cope well with dark areas, I think that this might be a problem since this movie is mostly dark with scary scenes. ODEON, Cineworld don't have 2D showings, BOOOO! Been looking forward to this film from the moment I heard it was being made. Very dissapointing.

Seeing only IMAX and 3D shows available in Los Angeles also...I would like the chance to see it in 2D also..probably after the other two.

I have received an email from Vue cinemas who imply, though do not actually state, that as the release date for the movie isn't until the 1st June the tickets for the 2D will only be available a week before as for all other films. If this is the case then no problem but the reply was giving information on Vue films generally and not specifically Prometheus as I had asked. If this is the case then a decision has been taken to have advance tickets and Midnight screenings of the 3D version only.

I've had the same problem, trying to book for a screen in Milton Keynes and they're all 3D. So going to head to the Screen on the Green in Angel. Big sofas, bar in the screen and most importantly they only do 2D!
