MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 7:28 AMI do agree to a degree that the AVP movies can be quite entertaining.
Although i do agree they are not actually part of the myth......or Alien Universe.
I think someone only got the idea from seeing an Alien skull on the Predators ship in Predator 2.
It could also be.....that because noone ever bothered to tell us where the Alien came from.....even the AVP movies didnt do that. Then it has become acceptable to the mainstream that it was the Predators that originally found the Alien or created it. So its because no director ever bothered to make a true prequel that Ridley thinks the xeno is tired and had its day.
NO RIDLEY..........the Xeno is NOT tired.......the Xeno is FRUSTRATED that nobody ever bothers telling his/her story.
Its something the Alien purists WANT to see and hear........for 30 years weve waited.
Had AVP and all the other sequels not been made would Ridley have shown us the Xeno true beginings?

ALIENS THINK HUMANS ARE ALIENS

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 8:32 AMI tend to agree with Korpen.
Sir Ridley seems to have done a "xenomorph" origin. The movie It's called Prometheus.
Hope he moves along from it though

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 9:33 AMThey screwed up AVP by setting it in present day instead of the future. Would have been so much better if it was like Aliens and then the predator just shows up out of nowhere. That and the whole predator teaming up with a human thing is just stupid in my opinion.
Now that I got that out. I really doubt we will see the same eggs, face-huggers, or xenos that we saw in other Alien or AVP movies. I think what we see of the SJ tech and other creatures will help us make sense of the original Alien. In that aspect it is a sort of origin story.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 9:54 AMAvp is just popcorn entertainment, and there is nothing wrong with that. It's the Lind of movie I would have on in the background of a party. And I think that it was not made so good is because if you look at the style and the action and everything, it's really just a predator movie with some aliens in it. They made no attempt to balance the styles. That's why even though resurection is much worse then avp, I still considder it an alien movie. Avp is a predator movie. Now that does not mean it is cannon with predator, I always thought they were based on the comics making them there own cannon. Anyone see where I am coming from????

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 2:36 PMRidley is FINALLY giving us fans after 33 years of waiting through the AVP junk a film about the Alien origins. But I have run into plenty of Predator fans who are just as frustrated as to why no film has shown the Predators homeworld or their origins. The Predator fans share some of the frustration. I think its directors just wanting to span out the abilities of both species. Instead of giving the creatures a creature sketch and a focusing on the actual species themselves they just want to see "action". Directors would rather see the Alien or Predator just mindlessly killing and spilling blood as a form of entertainment rather than really focusing on the creatures themselves as a important key aspect of the film.
Also its budget constraints. If you watch the making of Alien 3 one of the producers was discussing how Renny Harlin really wanted to get back to the planet from which the Aliens came but this certain producer said the budget was too high but now you could do it today, he even mentioned back in 2003 how he would like to see Ridley Scott do it. And LOOK after 9 years Ridley Scott has made a origin story to Alien.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 10:36 AMExactly. I liked the comics and the older pc games. All three worlds fit together perfectly in them. I'm just dissapointed that the movies weren't as good as they could have been.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 12:06 PMAVP is about Aliens vs Predator vs Marines. They completly went another route with movies....major FAIL. The first one seem to have something going, but did not last long. Lucas did successfully with ET being part of the STAR WARS world..lol.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 2:01 PMI don't get all this "the Alien was created by some other higher race" stuff. Its stupid and isn't scary. Nature is scary not deuschbags with ultra high tech toys. its such a cliche already. For a while it was considered (by comics and common sense) that the Alien has a home planet and is invented by nature just like the rest of us. Which is far cooler to imagine a biomechanical Alien homeworld where everything looks in part synthetic but is in fact a purely organic blend of fictional elements or some flying saucer dudes who apparently created humans also. AvP sucks for this very same conceptual reason. Where are the marines for christ's sake? Prometheus will look cool, but the writing has already exposed its shortcoming.
Lindelof + Spaights= Epic Fail.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 5:31 PMI'm definitely with you there, Ripley Clone 8. I'm not really a fan of Predator in the first place, but it seems that (and Predator fans will agree with this) Predator kind of got the short end of the stick. Praise the Engineers that Alien is able to completely redeem itself and pretend that the AVP garbage never even happened. It seems that the Predator franchise never even really got a chance to flesh out its own universe (although the film PREDATOR"S" is definitely a step in the right direction).

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 6:07 PMWell I know Alien purists who hate Aliens, alien 3 and Aliens: Resurrection.

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 5:44 PMSince when is just AVP and the Aliens canon the only opposition?

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2012 6:17 PMI'm almost as snobby as Huestess describes. I love Alien & Aliens and hate the rest with the heat of a thousand suns.
Wish that damn Rastafarian space crab would stay in its own comic-book side of the universe.
I have spoken.
