Alien 5 the sequel

Im pondering the idea of an Alien sequel. If the disastrous Ressurection left us anything, it was at least an open ended storyline:
Ripley is on her way trough earth atmosphere. Part Alien, part human. Along with her is Call; the superhuman android and the remaining crew of the Betty.
My questions are these: Will the Prometheus injection of fresh ideas and solid myhology pave the way to the final conclusion of the Alien saga? and,, Is it possible to dig up the CREATIVE FORCE and respect for the concept to get Sigourney Weaver to once again take the lead role in an Alien movie. + Is Winona Ryder in rehab?

Look, like Ridley said, the franchise is done. A:R, AvP & Avp:R did a great job of removing all of the depth and value out of the "Alien" by commercializing them. Now we are left with what? A Ripley clone that is half Alien, an android played by a horrible actress, and a disasterous Earth... not a great set up or anything to jump off from and I don't think that an "origin" story like Prometheus might set up will inject inspiration for GOOD sequels for the Alien series.
Prometheus will be it's own thing with sizable (and potentially huge) references to the Alien franchise, but it will remain its own path that may open the doors for sequels.
I wish Alien Resurrection could have been good, the ideas were there to some degree, but it just went horribly wrong, much like those failed clones... ay yi yi.

Please. No. Ripley's story is done with. Over-done. It should have ended at Alien 3. I wanna see new characters, settings and stories. Why keep flogging a dead, decayed and skeletal horse?

I'd rather they make P2 and P3 rather than A5, even before seeing P(1). Alien 3 was flawed genius - anyone who saw/heard Vincent Ward's initial idea and Fincher's early plans (which were truer to Ward's vision) knows that had those two come together it could've been an extraordinary end to the trilogy......and it should've been that way - with Ripley walking into the burning crop fields on the monk's planet (as in Ward's screenplay) in the climatic self-sacrifice scene. But as we know, A3 was compromised by 20C-Fox who took advantage of a first-time director. Had A3 been done right (and with a more experienced director who would've told Fox where to shove it) - we may then have had Scott (or Cameron) finish it off with an encore (A4) which may've in turn actually raised some questions for Prometheus - a sort of circular sequel as it were.
(IMO, A3 (Ward's screenplay) had the potential to be one of the great 'thinking' sci-fi films of all time - but alas, never will/was. )
But as we all know, along came A4 - which was truly awful (valid concept and some great visuals - but terribly executed by the wrong director (Jeunet - he directed 'Amelie' for God's sake - great fun film, but would you see James Cameron direct a French romantic comedy?!)) and A4 in turn killed the franchise. But then AvP had to go and 'bend it over', whilst AvP Requiem then repeatedly sodomised it!!
I joke with friends that the Motion Picture Academy should establish an independent body - for arguments sake called 'ABSPAR' - the Approvals Board for Sequels, Prequels and Remakes. If such a board existed, then AvP may never had existed!! Sadly it does and by doing so kills off any chance of A5.

I may get barred from the site for saying this but I didn't mind the first AvP. Admittedly, Requiem was a pile of poo and as you say has spoiled the timeline for further movies, but Alien Resurrection had already done a lot of damage.
Still can't wait for Prometheus although annoyingly my local Odeon is not listed for selling tickets yet.

Alien Resurrection was an entertaining movie IMO. But that was the problem, it was being too entertaining - as in trying to get you to laugh. The alternate opening sequence on the DVD with a guy squishing a bug and spitting it at the camera was the first sign of trouble. Overall the alien threat no longer seemed as menacing as the cast casually wandered from set piece to set piece spitting out attitude and General Perez was played for laughs even though Joss Whedon didn't write him that way.
It's seems almost inevitable with popular movie franchises that as they go on they seem to end up pointing fun at themselves. Same thing happened with Terminator 3 - Elton John glasses anyone?

Are we to follow Ripley to the grave?...
Meanwhile, the xenomorph is, now, (in my view), little more than a cartoon favourite....
I think that whole line of Story was done with a long time ago and it should have been left to rest in peace, then - finished with.
Even the way you phrase the question tells the story: that line needs Prometheus to resurrect it?...
It should stand on it's own - if it can't, leave it where it lies.

Am I the only one not desiring a Prometheus sequel?
To me it makes little sense. If the big questions will be answered in Prometheus, why to extend what is already answered? Just for the sake of the new creatures? Rather making another horror movie with a different story-line and put whatever creatures the directores come up with [non Alien like].
But that's just my very humble opinion.
However, if Sir Ridley has an idea of making a sequel for Prometheus, I hope it is set way apart from the Alien universe [I personally feel that innovation is only good when it is really innovative]

Im aboard a sequel (P2 - is that what were calling it?) IF a) Ridley directs it, and b) its a true second part, the conclusion, for P1...ie we havent seen the end of the story.
However like a king dying you know its inevitable that if P1 and P2 succeed at eth box office and to critical acclaim...there WILL be spinoffs and more stories that FOX will milk to the cow come home
1 month and some change left!

I just watched Alien 3 again despite my never having liked it. This forum though prompted me to watch the film and the making of bonus disc from my Alien Quadrilogy set.
Even though I still feel this story was the wrong way to go after Aliens, I've developed new respect for the film and the performances. I also agree with most of you that it should have ended there. Resurrection, let's face it, was horrible. I didn't even like Weaver's acting.
Are we now looking at Prometheus as a possible re-boot of the franchise?

For me, AvP is a guilty pleasure. AvP Requim was an atrocity that took 90 minutes of my life away that I will never get back. Alien 3 was a cluster f*#k bastardization from earlier, superior drafts. Resurrection was a good idea that was directed poorly and the creature designs were all wrong. The iconic Alien creature has become a sad parody of its former self. The design had a good run, but needs to be retired. As for Ripley, that character should never have been "resurrected."

This is Hollywood. If Prometheus is successful they will keep making sequels until Prometheus 4: Zardoz Head vs SJ Head kills the franchise.
