nice. had to think, if those audio bites on youtube were legit, theres no way the sounds could translate into any scene that wasnt R worthy...sounds messed up.

Full relief at this rating, and to be honest there is no way they could achieve a film as shocking as "ALIEN" without an R rating.
I agree with you "gameover man" regarding the audio track! It's pretty dark and I swear there is the sound of his arm breaking or something splitting and ripping during the cobra alien attack.
Can't wait.

That audio track is really awesome because we only hear sounds and we can't see anything so everything's left for our imagination. It was really creepy. And with my wide imagination I heard lots of things in that audio, lol : D Arm breaking, water splashes/drowning, oh lots of things.

Do you have a link? The collider.com article just repeats the same supposed evidence of a pic of a movie ticket with a big "R" on it. I don't see any announcement from the MPAA anywhere.

@GreatBoosUp. http://www.imdb.com/news/movie
Second story down, the actual article wouldn't let me copy a direct link.
@the coming. Search back over the discussions for the past 3 or 4 days and you should find an entry on "disturbing sounds" has a link to the file, its also on YouTube , search Prometheus audio reversed.

OK I'm all for hoping that the movie will be rated "R". But that Collider article doesn't prove anything. They're basically just assuming its rated "R" based on a advanced-sale movie ticket. I'm pretty sure the theater that sold that particular ticket just put an "R" in their system to play it safe. That's probably why the ticket has an R on it.
And imdb has a bad track record when it comes to correct information.

This is the text of the post on the imdb .com site:
There's been heavy speculation over whether Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror film Prometheus would receive an R-rating. The blockbuster film carries a big price tag, and a PG-13 rating would probably mean a much higher take at the box office. However, when Steve spoke with 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman, Rothman said the movie "will not be compromised either way," and the studio would accept whatever the MPAA handed down. According to a pre-sale ticket stub, the MPAA has handed down an R-rating for Prometheus. I'm not sure if that automatically makes the movie better, but I'm happy for the opportunity to see an ambitious summer blockbuster with an R-rating. The last R-rated sci-fi summer blockbuster I can recall is 2003's The Matrix Reloaded. However, it's late and I'm tired, so I might be forgetting another R-rated summer sci-fi movie released since then. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th. »
Sorry but I still don't see where the MPAA has said that Prometheus will be rated 'R'

@GreatBoosUp
Exactly. Its just an assumption made based on a movie ticket with an "R" on it. LOL

Okay, maybe it isn't true. Maybe it is another clever marketing ploy for the hardcore fans. Maybe. But who can't help but feel good at least a little? I for one, do! If it is PG-13, however, I will not like this one bit. But I am giving Scott and Co the benefit of the doubt.

I think Prometheus will have an 'R' rating. From what I've seen, it's too intense and frightening not be 17 and older for admission.

Anyone read about an official statement from FOX' Tim Rothman? I'm sure he would be quick to adress this fact considering our expectations.
May 07, 2012
I haven't seen any official confirmations, yet. Just a print on a ticket on some article on the internet.
I also have a ticket for an IMAX opening in UK, and it says 15 (which would be the equivalent for R) but it also says TBC.
I am almost sure now that eventually it will be rated R, but on the official MPAA website there is no official statement yet (while there is for TDKR, for example).
Although we can be optimistic, I would wait for a real official confirmation before saying that it's official.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
