All that time...

He's alone in space with a loooot of time to kill - could it be possible that during that lonely journey, he either accesses information or has an epiphany that somehow turns him into the dark character many have suspected him of becoming?

Anyone seen Pandorum. People waking up from hyper sleep only to find that others have been awake and gone crazy. But a lot of time had passed by in that movie alowing things to evolve.

It is an interesting thought, don't get me wrong - that's almost a movie on it's own - I just get the feeling that, "David going nuts from isolation", might be a bit obvious for this film...
I don't know...if he's nuts, I'd much rather he was always nuts - or, that he was designed to be nuts: and what he's been struggling with all that time is knowing it - and fighting it to try and be sane...

hi, W2rh0und:
Pandorum was a nice movie [a bit to the predictable side] but did raise a number of questions. Love the ending, by the way,

David is a self-evolving creature, with all the tools for self-realization. Placed into a situation that limits his contact, it would be natural for him to become detached, self-centered, and just a curious fellow to be around, but I like him. But that's just me.

or maybe.....as it has been said, he "self evolves" to a point but he is still somewhat limited to his programming. AND what if......he i'm sure, has been in contact with the company the entire time. They could have fed him the true agenda of the mission (i.e. Ash) and david8 has other motives now, OR....he could have been in contact with Peter Weyland- who is on LV233 from previous secret mission and is totally in-the-know on what to do and where to bring the fresh hosts for expierementation--especially the female scientist!
I don't trust the synthetic.

If you make an AI that goes crazy from boredom, you suck as a programmer.
Given David's processing speed from the released info he is probably waiting our equivalent of weeks just for us to finish a sentence. Designing a super-intelligent robot to interact with humans would include a module for almost infinite patience and a built-in ability to amuse yourself.
David's humanlike characteristics are just shams to make humans not too weirded out by him. He probably does not get bored or lonely because he was not programmed to.

@sukkal - "Fassy said he took up Disco."
Just had an hysterical image of him doing the Travolta 'Bus Stop'
to 'Night Fever' there all on his own, or breakdancing on the bridge
lol.
