It would have to be Peter Weyland. There is no guessing that point. Without him they would have never gone to LV.

I want to say Mr. Weyland, but we only see him for, I think, a total of one minute. Unless, hypothetically, he ascends to becoming the god he wanted to be, and then we get to see more than one minute of him, except he is no longer Mr. Weyland.
David's a good guess, though. There's just something about him that, after studying what we know of this movie prior to release, makes me think he has this potential of, uh, epic proportions.

The Xenos exist before the Prometheus arrives. The responsibility for infecting the pilot of the derelict may fall on one of the crew. I'd say Shaw or David.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

I think David, but I don't think he'll mean to. Everything seems to point to him being nefarious just because he's a Weyland unit, but I believe Weyland perhaps tried to recreate a child he lost or give himself the child he probably never gave himself time to have... He seems to have more a childlike fascination with things i.e. the Star map than anything else. Again though... that's just my tuppence worth...

Keen eye on David's "child-like" fascination with thing. You can see him smiling at the little creatures on top of one of the ampules, almost as if he's like "Oh how cute ^^ ", as though they're newborn and as such he seems value in them, or value in their own lives. As for what he's doing with that goopy thing he pulls out of the container, I think he may have orders to conduct an analysis on these things.
But you mentioned that Mr. Weyland might be attempting to "recreate a child he lost". That reminds me of the movie, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and how some of that movie's storyline touches upon recreating a child you lost. I recommend that movie, but I must warn you that it's very heavy; I saw it back in 2001 in theaters, and everyone in the theater was crying at the end, my older brother too, and they didn't get up off their seats until about a minute after the credits began rolling. I didn't at the time, but now when I see the movie, I leak. *ahem* Anyway, interesting hypothesis.
