Stephen Hawking and Prometheus.....

Wasn't he in an episode of Star Trek TNG? If so he must like his sci-fi.

No prob. On the off chance you might enjoy watching something non-scifi on occassion, check out the next episode of "Sherlock" on masterpiece theatre (9pm Sunday ET)in the states...it's suppose to be quite the mind blower! Of course if your from Britain, you would have already seen it or at least had the opportunity to, as they ran it months ago.

Quite honestly, I really don't care what Hawking thinks since his field of science is mostly theoretical which is a scientific way of saying "educated guessing".

Steven Hawking is an interesting guy with a lot of interesting stuff to say.
Only problem is that he has no way to prove a lot of his theories. In that regard, I think of him in the same way that I think of any other forum poster on this board.

Xenotron:
I love your attitude. Though, I'm guessing you can't be scientist or in science related business if you talk like that.
For the record, Einstein had no way of proving his theory of time dilatation. But later generations tested and proved them. And thanks to Einstein="poster behind alias", we have perfectly functioning and operational Global Navigation System today.
Though Hawkings theory on Hawking radiotion or Black-Body radiation sounds very feasible, and it's very likely to be proven correct in future. Einsteins many theories were accepted without demanding "Proof or it didnt happen" (of course they were tested later when the testing was possible though!) because they made logical sense.
Interesting note also:
Gravity is just a theory too, though it has been observed to correctly imitate real world phenomenon. Problematic part still is that we have no idea how the force is interacted. Mass attracts mass, yes. Why does it happen, No idea.

Mass distorts space around itself, which in turn then creates favorable conditions of attraction for other bodies with mass. Bodies of mass "fall" toward or into each other if you will. Warped space creates the condition which we refer to as gravity. Now, wheres my free tx to Prometheus?

He would have a good chuckle at FTL, but would applaud the viewpoint that if we ever met extraterrestrial life we might regret doing so....and you can quote him on that

@Dave_b:
True.... According to the Theory. That mechanism of Gravity has not been measured (I mean the distortion of Space). Besides, the theory of Distorted Space is still just a theory for one reason:
1. We don't know what gets distorted, and what passes the distortion on. What's the exact mechanism of interraction of Gravity. How does the center of milky way pull us towards it, even when it's almost incomprehensibly far away? Distortion of Space - Yes.
For the record, there is no other force in universe which can interract along so enormous distances - No electromagnetical interraction, or the forces inside atom. Only Gravity has this ability - So gravity much be really strong force? -Not, it's actually weakest of the basic forces, atleast on short distances, in long distances it's whole different thing.

This is kinda related.
+I kinda enjoy some fundamentalist americans go on Rage mode. Especially, if the true reason of going to Rage is being ignorant, and denying what science has clearly Demonstrated.
Loved the FOX channels O'Reilly and the Moon + tides discussion. Tides are caused by the gravity of moon, O'Reilly said we don't know how they happen -> Proof of GOD! When he was informed about this, his counter-argument was like this: Who put the Moon there? -> DIVINE INTERVENTION TO MAKE TIDES HAPPEN!
I thought americans were fabled of their good argumentation skills. But still it passes as argument to ask the opposition: How did the Earth become to have just the suitable conditions for life? Can't prove it? That means everything you say has been nullified. We know God put it there and made it happen. *Wins argument*
