I don't see how anyone can really say its the same ship, from what we know about it and the signs of being partially fossilized plus this seems to be a completely different planet/moon it doesn't fit, the idea behind the film hasn't got much to do with Alien as a whole from what has been said so it doesn't make sense.

I don't think this is a bad post. @zortation: Welcome to the community! Derelict Juggernaut on LV-426 (Alien-1979): Ship Age: At least 1 million years Evidence: SJ fossilized into chair (this takes a very, very, long time) Juggernaut on LV-223 (Prometheus-2012): Ship Age: Rather recent relative to the Juggernaut model (as in an 86 Ford-Ranger) above. Evidence: Cool hologram bells and whistles plus sleeker pilot chair (more ergonomic<--Prior SJs complained of back issues ; ) )

I think they're two different ships. I do not know if the original appears in Prometheus and summarizes the possibilities: -Agree to the words of Scott Derelict not crashed (in relidad made an emergency landing) And that happened a long time for mummified appearance (or fossilized if you prefer). So maybe there will be a flashback or holograms to explain something about this ship. -Prometheus is the prequel to the prequel and we know something of the Derelict on a sequel (though it is too early to talk about it) -This new ship is the same but Scott would be doing a redesign of everything (a la Reboot) though I doubt it. - Remember that Scott does not want his prequel has a predictable end. This would see a classic Derelict Chestburster out of his chest. Again we can assume that we will see something in relation to Derelict in a hologram, or Flash-Back, or otherwise we will wait for a prequel or sequel to Prometheus.

I may have missed previous threads on this, but who's to say that some third party doesn't 'scorch' the planet surface, even knocking it out of orbit and ruining the atmosphere near the end? The ship could survive, including the 'warning signal', but the inhabitant SJ turned to a fosslized state. This 'scorch' event could completely destroy the remaining crew members and Prometheus, including whatever escapes from the SJ (exploded chest). However, given RS has talked about more than one sequel, the that the Nostromo is 20-30 years in the future, the story must go in a completely new direction at the end. Has anyone discussed the nature of the huge dust cloud that approaches the Prometheus or the scenes with the crew members seemingly in hurricane force winds? Could this in fact be LV-426?

Well this place whatever it is seems to be an active planet based on the clouds on entry, so could just be random weather? Dust storms happen all the time in deserts.

I dont think that the Derelicts are meant to be different as in newer models, like the one in Alien is a 68 Mustang the one in Prometheus is a 2010 Mustang etc.... I think that both ships are suposed to be about the same age, well same design. Yes they look different because this is a newer movie and they decided to tone down some Bio elements and make it more Mechanical, thus if Ridley could go back to Alien with the Budget and Special Effects he has now, i think he would design the Derelict to look much like the one in this movie. Here is example.... BSG the new one is a reboot a re-telling and while the Cylon Raiders look different the Vipers are basically simular. Thus this and this are the same.... they may look a little different mind. Just like this.... compared to... As far as it being the exact same Derelict that lands on LV426... I would say its not.... You see i could have a Audi A4 2.4 SE and you could also, only mine could be parked outside my house, off the road because it is broken.... Yours could be about to go for a Spin, half way across the world compared to where mine is.... Also there may be differences that are minor like this.. Compared to Both Boeing 757's just slight differences for difference purposes? I think the biggest inconsistancy over the Derelicts is not how they have changed in design due to age of movies..... But that the one in Alien had no Sarcophagus, if Ridley is going for this one to be the same that landed on LV 426 how is he going to explain those?

@BigDave nice pics, and good point, but and the same time Scott said that the Derelict not crashed, in fact supposed to made an a emergency landing. In contrast, the Juggernaut seems to be the victim of a Kamikaze attack. And it is very possible that the incident of the Derelict is older than the collision of the Juggernaut. And Yeah, is a new design more metalic and less organic (as Scott says)

Yeah i never ment to imply it crashed... by me saying my Audi could be broken, i mean that the Derelict on LV426 landed but can not take off for some reason.... There would be a reason it stayed there. But yes i think they are different, as in the one on LV 426 has been there a long time before Prometheus land on LV 223.... how long who knows and maybe we wont find out. But i am going to say for about as long ago, as the suposed Engineer Hollogram Scene was suposed to have occuried.

I think it makes sense for them to be two different ships because the Derelict is a sleeper okay there for a possible run in the Juggernaut a new sleeper possibly placed closer to earth than the Derelict
