Not related to prometheus movie plot or spoiler but more of sci-fi community discussion. While watching the prometheus trailers, I remember old animation of silver surfer. If you know about "Watchers/observers" species in silver surfer comics. Maybe you know that there was one episode called universal library. There was a mission where silver surfer and many species from around the universe were heading for that library where "watchers" species created a disease which turns people into slimy creature if they tamper with information in library. Somehow I feel prometheus plot and this plot was on the similar note and then tons of spoilers and promos changed my mind about that theory. I mean keeping aggressive species in URN and also keeping the data about them in some holographic library etc. Still an interesting plot where species intelligent than us are making library like that to keep knowledge of all universe exploration in one place. I don't know how many of you're into sci-fi stories like this. Do you think such universal libraries or knowledge aggregation is good for the primitive species visiting that hive? or they should be prohibited from tapping such knowledge?

In the Star Trek universe it would be banned by the Prime Directive.

The Prime Directive makes an awful lot of sense, because no good could come from an advanced race sharing technology with another which was less advanced. As a single, oversimplified example, can you imagine what would have happened if the South had a few thousand Kalishnikov rifles in 1861?

That will surely turn science into politics(or religion). I mean each species has right to know about universe but only the advanced will restrict their vision. World is not ready for this type of technology - Ms. Yutani

@ Sky IMO any cataloguing of anything, in whatever form is usually the result of an enquiring mind/ intelligence. How that knowledge is gained is another matter. I don’t know if you are familiar with ‘The island of Dr Moreau’, but I think this falls between, what is a catalogue of experiments, the issues behind sharing that knowledge and how it is obtained, and does this old story by H.G. Wells form the backbone to Prometheus. I mention this because Ridley Scott said that the behaviour of the Engineers was uncivilized. “There is something irreversible about acquiring knowledge, and the simulation of the search for it differs in a most profound way from the reality.” - J.R. Oppenheimer
