Size of SJ

Just looking through the images in the new gallery and was struck by this: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/media/prometheusO_screencap2.jpg The size of the 'visitor' is immense compared to the humans and yet this is not the scale we have seen to date with the released SJ shots when compared to the Prometheus crew. This also relates to Alien where the SJ relic was huge compared to the Nostromo crew who discovered it. Have we yet to see the true SJ race? Are the Engineers and SJs distinct?

Same scale SJ as in Alien. I hope this is somehow addressed.

Given that the soundtrack has tracks entitled engineers and space jockey it's fair to assume they are different races. At least I hope it does because the scale thing is a big thing for me

The suit could be like a biomechanical version of the Power Loader, much bigger than the (already very tall) Engineer who wears it. I'd wager that they are only referred to as Space Jockeys when they're piloting their craft in their suits/chairs. Otherwise, they're more accurately called Engineers, they engineer life. Just different descriptive names for the same creatures.

This still doesn't add up in terms of size although I appreciate the loader reference. From memory there is a scene in the trailer (I try to avoid repeat viewings) which shows an SJ mask being scanned and this is also considerably smaller than that on the Alien relic. I guess all will be revealed in a couple of weeks but this particular issue keeps bothering me!

You mean to tell me that you're going to get all bent out of shape if the scale is inconsistent between movies? Is that going to ruin the movie for you?

Interesting theory BishopIII. If it is indeed "very large suit to much smaller creature ratio", than it's been already done in "Independence Day." I'd be disappointed. It seems like anything's possible with CGI so why wouldn't they keep it as was in Alien for continuity's sake?

Simple explanation - they shrunk. The aliens we see in the cave paintings and the one we saw in Alien are ancient beings from back when they were first discovering the joys of genetic manipulation. So over the millenia they used this technology to make themselves smaller for obvious reasons. (In case the reasons aren't obvious to you - food, shelter, transport, and longevity.)

Perhaps the fact that they are shrunk or large is directly tied-into the relation of the effects of gravity upon the worlds they reside on. On Earth they are smaller in direct relation to the forces of the gravity well exerted upon them, on these smaller worlds and the Space Jockey on LV 426 the planetoid is smaller and therefore the creatures if spending a long time say terraforming it which may have some connection to the temple ruins found they would tend to grow BIG! With big lungs to take in breath and thats why they need those breathing masks, they are all hybrids from a common ancestor as humans a thousand years in the future terraforming Mars for example would be to us.

@takka Or, perhaps the human artist exaggerated their scale to communicate the awe with which the visitor's powers were received by the primitive cultures they visited?

And, wrt the SJ from Alien, I absolutely subscribe to that scale as the "true" size of that species. IMHO, if we haven't seen a creature at this scale in the few minutes of total footage we have seen, then we have yet to see an animated SJ.

Or perhaps it was cheaper for FOX to make more Human-like SJ's.

Cheaper... This film allegedly has a budget of $150 million
