According to Greek mythology, the Titans were no less than the rest of Gods. They were Gods too, and ancient ones. After Jeus who was the son of Saturn, having fleed his father's hunger to eat all his children, afraid that they may grow up and claim the throne, comes back as a grown up and tries to remove the throne from Saturn (Kronos). He summons an army of Giants, 100handed creatures and other Titans as well who supported him, and after a 10 year battle that set fire to the entire universe he takes over his father's throne and Jeus is kept prisoner for eternity. So Titans were Gods, older that the others who were new (Jeus and his brothers). But as saind before some Titans also helped Jeus and not followed the arch-Titan Saturn. Prometheus, happened to be the best fighter of Jeus. Amongst this battle, rumor has it that humans were born out of the spilled blood of the Titans. And is clearly indicated that humans were Titan-blooded beings. So it was a war for the throne. Who would be the overlord of the universe. So a war between Gods. And accidentally humans were born from Titans. Now Prometheus movie-wise lets see what fits in: Space Jockeys could be Titans (older Gods), who were in war with the newer Gods (the saucer guys?). Probably seem to have lost the war, so SJs are probably the older Gods. Rulling the universe would give each God party, the chance to create and seed life throughout it . According to Greek mythology, older Gods wouldn't like to lose this privillege in seeding life across universe and did not allow their offsprings (the younger Gods) to replace them. (a King has his reign and then he dies...it's inevitable). As the younger Gods tried to take over, the war begun with the older Gods. But not all old Gods fought with their leader. Some of them joined the ranks of the younger Gods. From the blood of those old Gods who joined the younger ones came man. Imagine humans caught in the Gods war....If the older Gods hated the younger, just imagine how much must they have hated humans! So it appear that the older Gods in Prometheus must have a temporary win over the younger ones who are not apparent in the beginning of the film. So thinking that they have eradicaded the young Gods, they now turn against their childern, us humans. So they set up the LV trap, and with horrific weapons try to take us out. So we went to meet our doom, by going to LV, thinking that we would meet only benevolent Gods. I believe, as seen in the trailers, that at some point of the film, suprisingly enough to us and to old Gods, the younger Gods who are supportive to us, make their presence and help us a little, one way or another. Mind boggling, I know...requires study. Any thoughs?

I've thought along the same lines and I've been puzzled why few have speculated much on the Greek Promtheus. Re: the film- My (current) version is that the being by the waterfall is a defeated "god/titan" or "king" marooned by his adversaries or possibly in hiding. And... that's it. I keep going back and forth as to whether the defeated god is on Earth or on the Prometheus planet with the resulting changing interpretation of who/which side the various factions (SJ, Weyland, Blue-guy, humans, etc. ) are on.

SFanger: Indeed, and probably the left God, the defeated one follows the mythological fate of Saturn (Kronos), the arch-Titan God. According to this myth, when finally he was defeated he was cheated by his wife in cooperation with her son Jeus (who had defeated his father Kronos), to be left unconcious, after his wife and mother of Jeus, dropped some kind of medicine in his food. In this state of sleep, he was taken to the cave of Night (godess) and was tricked to dream and prophesize through dreams for the rest of eternity. He wouldn't understand he was actually sleeping for the rest of his life thus rendering him harmless. With respect to Prometheus plot, maybe that ancient God, left on the planet, might have conceived a plan to fool humans to their doom, as an act of vengeance to the young Gods who defeated him. And maybe something more...If it was the old God trying to get back to Earth and Shaw says there won't be a home to go back to...maybe if this God is allowed to escape from the place he was kept, might get a way to restart the war and go after the young Gods once again.....interesting...

Good stuff. Interesting speculation about implementing myth into movie plot.

@Bazyl: Thanks a lot my friend. The myth must have certainly impacted the plot somehow. We just have to wait and see. Thanks again!

No, no, no. 'Keep it simple stupid.' You're thinking up a manuscript that no company would option. Not to mention no writer worth their salt uses metaphors. Your idea is bold but it's too complicated and melodramatic to exist in the movie world.
