MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 1:47 AMSaw an animated gif of Shaw's baby being removed this morning, saw this, and figured I'd post it for discussion given that we think we've now seen this little fella all grown up.
Here's a screen cap take from said GIF:

You can clearly see the littlun's "face" in the medi-pod glass as it moves. Flipped here to make it clearer:

Looks a little like the typical "grey alien" sort of face, or even a little like the aliens inside the suits in Independence Day. Either way, thought it was interesting, and I've not seen it posted elsewhere either (if it has been, apologies - search function brought up nothing). It kind of also proves that the "tentacles" end of the beast is definitely the "front" end, not the "tail" end, as a few people have claimed.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:24 AMActually it's on the glass nearest to the camera, so the wrong half of the med pod to even give any facial reflection I reckon.
Might just be a random shape

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 2:59 AMInteresting. Is that an eyeball? Bec its gigantic in proportions to the rest of it.
Id just like to be the first to say that RS and terrifying alien creature births might become analogous to michael bay and unnecessary explosions.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 3:23 AMI just hope I don't end up moaning, "OH BROTHER!" at the end of this film.
All this "tentacle" hoakiness is turning me off. I can't believe RS would turn the ending of this film into the cheap "species" crap.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMay-22-2012 3:45 AMYeah I'm tending toward that being a reflection of Shaw's face as well...
if you watch the full clip you can see some slits on the bulky part of the creature, that may be nostrils or closed eyes.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:53 AMwhen i watch the moving gif, i see it's the tentacles moving, and in that pause the way those tentacles are give you the impression of a face.

MemberDeaconMay-22-2012 5:47 AMIf you see other images you can tell the eyes are on the side, this is just a optical illusion in the glass.

Its bound to look like the head of above, basically these creature looks just like a Squid/Octopus at that stage.... now there are many different kinds of those creatures...
Look at this one...

And this concept work (unrelated)

If you look at the top one of these two, the baby and you take away the tentacles then whats left does look like the head of a Grey Alien minus the mouth....
Then again what we could be seeing is this...

Maybe it was David 8 who gets Shaw pregnant by his finger.... "big things come from small beginings"

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:23 AMIf it was Shaw's face, it would be there the whole time - it only appears as the creatures is rotated by the clamp/arm. Watch the full GIF:

It's not Shaw's face.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:52 AMnow that i look closely again at the movie one, i see an anime girl face :s
Hentai after all :o

MemberTrilobiteMay-22-2012 6:57 AMWatching that gif this so called "face" moves along with the moving dome of glass and therefore the reflection angle is all wrong, whatever it is it isn't a reflection of shaws or squiddys face, probably just a trick of the light.

KingMe
MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 7:45 AMI thinks its just a smudge on the glass of the pod. It moves because the camera is rotating. Between perspiration, blood, and squid baby juices, i would expect to see some smudges. Best look is the video tho. You can also see the squids mouth and a beady eye.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:39 AMI agree with bloodyacid: The tentacles just are NOT doing it for me. I truly hope they have something in store that kicks this idea up a notch or two.
Alien was somewhat believable. At least the thing had feet and hands in a terrestrial setting. Tentacles do not exist on any animal that lives on land, and it just isn't scary. It's as if they decided since they couldn't match the shock value of the original, they'd just shoot for weird instead. Tentacles on land just seems a bit too much like a History channel special, or a George Lucas nightmare.
A giant cuttlefish in the lake? At least it's somewhat scary. But on land, it's just a steaming pile of slime.

MemberDeaconMay-22-2012 9:19 AMWell again i think what we are looking at is Ridley borrowing some of the elements from the Orginal Alien Script the Star Beast....
And i think we will see a end product that will combine both those elements and that of Gigers Xeno....
Because the Squid we see here and the Tentacle monster bare no resemblance to the Xeno at all, then again a Elephant Shares a lot of DNA with a Mouse.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:19 AMWhatever it is that comes out of Shaw it looks to me like it would taste good fried up with salt & pepper batter, which is not a good look for this film :-(

BigDave
MemberDeaconMay-22-2012 9:23 AMWell if the Baby is Cuddles.....
Then can we call the Tentacle Monster.... Squidzilla ;)

Maybe thats what it grows into?

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:35 AMThat IS Shaw's face. You can see her hair in the reflection as well.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 10:03 AMIf you're stuck for an idea for a creature design, give it tentacles!! Oldest, most cliched trick in the book, which is all the more worrying after Shaw's calamari baby!! :-(

PUNX
Art DirectorMemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 11:11 AM A agree with others here that the face moves in relation to the glass by her feet so is at a completely wrong angle... as for seeing a face in there, maybe that's something to do with our own genetic heritage. We respond to faces instantly and that has been an established philological fact for a long time... seeing things in the reflection of a domed shape is like seeing stuff in clouds!!! Just my humble opinion!

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 11:40 AMif the internet had been arounf pre-Alien in 79 the exact same criticisms would have been levelled against the Xeno.
"oh its just another man in a suit"
"oh, it looks like a giant insect, how original"
"oh it has acid for blood, how original"
"oh its a haunted house film, how original"
"oh its a ten little indians film, how original"
really, the film sucks already because you've seen less than half a second of tentacles? best you don't go see it then? imagine what a full minute of it would do.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 1:29 PMIf anything its shawa face screaming and saying "no". Looks to me like a reflection of someone standing outside the pod but it's upside down so I'm not sure.

This. This exactly.
It's as if somebody in the creature design department saw the "octopus walks on land" YouTube video and said, "Hey! An excuse!"

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 3:31 PMI'll add that I in no way think this film will be a bad one. I have very high expectations for it.
And, I must say the thread on "Giger's art" here in the spoiler forum has me rethinking my previous post. That thing- whatever the heck it is, has potential.

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-22-2012 5:59 PMOkay it's actually damned creepy when an octopus wriggles across land. Ewwwww
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

BioShock
MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:39 PMThis is one creature out of many we have not even seen yet. This may have nothing to do with shaw/engineer encounter. I doubt ridley would make a killer octopus taking over the prometheus. Something larger is at play here.

abiogenesis
MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:01 PMOkay, yeah.
I'm gonna try very hard to suspend my disbelief and instead argue for the possibility that, as an alien lifeform (or hybrid alien/human), this creature has very different anatomy & physiology that would allow it to have land-tentacles.
Besides that, even though tentacles have been done to death, tentacles are still so-very-Cthulhu... I can't hate on that.
