Engineer technology theory

Anyway - after looking at a few pictures of the exploding engineer head/helmet on the examining table, I noticed something that might give us a better idea as to how their technology might work.

In this image, it shows what is obviously a humanoid face. The left side of its face seems relatively normal...eye, nose, open mouth, etc. The right side, however, seems disfigured/distorted. The right eye is further away from the nose and lower on the face. The facial skeletal structure also seems distorted as well.
I didn't think anything of it until I looked at this picture:

Apparently this is the engineer's head with its helmet on. My logic tells me that if this were merely a helmet that the engineers wear, then they wouldn't be able to see out of it. The eye holes seem to far apart to line up with their eyes.
Now, I remember reading an article or interview (can't remember which) about how the engineers are masters of all things biological and mechanical. The xenomorph is a perfect example of this idea. Also, after seeing trailers showing the engineer seemingly melding with the turret chair, it just further supports my theory that they don't actually 'wear' their suits in a matter of speaking.
The engineer head/face on the table seems like it was halfway transforming into the helmet as evidenced by how the right eye seems like it would match up with the right eye hole of the helmet...as if they can literally grow their suits/helmets from their bodies. In the process, their physiology becomes distorted/disfigured.
If this is true, then it gives us a better idea of just what their technology is like.
I'm thinking that the prometheus crew finds this head/helmet. They take it back to the ship to study it and start doing experiments on it to see if they can see what is on the inside. They hook it up to some sort of machine that passes electrical currents through it in an attempt to reactivate it?? and instead of the helmet opening up or detaching, it starts to transform or 'morph' back into a very human-like face...
...and then it explodes for whatever reason.
So maybe the engineers don't even have to put the suits on, they just transform into them. This would also explain how in Alien, the space jockey seems badly decomposed. That wouldn't make sense to me if they were wearing a suit unless the suit is literally alive - or - they ARE they suit.
Just a theory. Any thoughts?
