MemberOvomorphMay-24-2012 11:45 AMI wanted to bring up a good point. In the US, the mpaa rating for prometheus is "R for sci-fi violence including some images and brief language" Could we conclude that Shaw doesn't get raped, due to the fact that the mpaa rating would have also said sexuality, nudity etc..?
I think the love scene happens before 'the shit hits the fan' and looks very consensual

Well i dont know about the US system.....
But the uk 15 will not allow for a rape scene....
But you dont have to reference or show such to imply such.
For the record, i think between them was consensual.
If we say the Engineer gets her Pregnant they could get away with it like this...
Show a scene of Engineer go up to her, she screams Noooooo...
Fade to black, next scene she is running away distraught....
Latter we find out she is pregnant.....
No scene of sex between Engineer and Shaw is shown, but we can assume thats happened...
I dont think thats the case but thats how you can get round certain things like that.
Like if you had a Teen movie, and two Teens kissing, then you see them reach for a Condom and go to open packet.... fade to black/end scene.
Next one finds out she is pregnant.... you then know they had a sex scene but you dont see it, so it does not get classified for having a sex scene.

Even if it was consensual, the same things goes as far as the rating it would have said sexuality atleast, hell even titanic had "sensuality".
It probably would have beeen a lot easier to conclude that she doesn't get raped, due to the fact that the likelihood they are already involved in some romantic, presumably physical, relationship is something that could be established from the trailers.
It has always concerned me... I do wonder where Holloway gets the nail scraps (and they aren't little, and look human and from a smaller hand, so Shaw fits the bill) on his shoulder in the Trailer shot of mirror-eye-worm-realisation.

Titanic was PG-13 and had some nuditah. I was 12 when I saw it in theaters; I covered my eyes because I didn't like the idea of seeing sexual scenes with my family. I mean, a family sitting down together to watch hormonal love scenes that lead to sweet hot sex just doesn't fit well with me. Things like that are better off being watched alone......unless you're with a girlfriend, then it's okay, to some degree.
I just hope Prometheus doesn't copy Titanic's style in the love scene. If it does, well, I won't be disappointed or think any less of this movie. I'm just weird like that I guess. :/
@CrazyDave55811
I disagree.
Surely Prometheus would do well to add few McLovin Scenes of Sweat?
There seems bound to be plenty of harsh gore and a little kissing and such will break it all up nicely.
They should probably add a scene like Jack 'n' Rose at the prow of the Titanic - maybe one of the times when Hollaway and Shaw are on the little motorcycle thing.
Hi Irish.... in the first and then ,followed by many others, trailer
when Holloway looks at his eye in the mirror... the marks are on his right shoulder... but you are distracted by the wiggly-worm action!

[quote]Why is everyone so dead set on Holloway raping Shaw, anyway? It's a bit...unnerving.

yeah it bothers me too, every fansite like this theres group of people wanting to see some alien or someone to rape women :S, i guess its he Sci Fi nerd's wet dream.
The scrapes on Holloway are possibly from the scene where he goes out to find her in the storm. Maybe he gets beaten around by the wind and sand? Same goes for her, she appears to have some patches that might be bruises on her thigh in the bed still image.
As to the "rape" scene... There is and has always been a perverse thread or undercurrent running in the background out there for stuff like this. I am surprised it's not satiated by the infamous scene from Galaxy Of Terror.
The sad truth is, if you know anyone that this has actually happened to, it's not something to be entertained by. Further, when you are watching a movie with that person and it takes a turn where the director seems to feel this sadistic need to graphically depict it... it tends to upset the individual that has actually been through it. Nothing kills an evening more effectively than this. The truth is you can get the point across with MUCH MUCH less than more AND still have the viewer stay through the dang film. Not to mention you spare that person from having to relive the event again. Just because you CAN do a thing does not mean you SHOULD do a thing.
