MemberOvomorphMay-25-2012 6:12 AMWow, hadn't thought of this.
My daughter, listening to the Prometheus trailer music just now, said she has always though that the haunting background 'scream' that runs throughout the trailer, and is an updated version of the original Alien one, is a rendition of the original distress call.
There was a version of this call in the Director's cut of alien on blu-ray, which sounded different. But...I really like that idea.

MemberOvomorphMay-25-2012 6:31 AMIf you watch the trailers from the first Alien on blu ray (disc 6 i think) you'll see (or rather hear)that they use the same sountrack in the prometheus trailer.

MemberOvomorphMay-25-2012 6:44 AMAnd in one of the Prometheus trailers right at the end where the Bio Engineers legs are in view and approaching Shaw we cut to her in a screaming state and the audio overlayed here or just after this part is the original "scream" by Ripley when she has turned around with her back facing the Alien in the life boat and she peaks out the far left coner of her helmets visor to see the creature peakng back at her and she slams the door hatch retraction switch. This part has been dubed in and intermixed with Prometheus sounds and audio tracks og the trailer.

I'm not sure where you're getting that information from, or perhaps you're misunderstanding the OP's question.
That high, keening siren-like wail in the Prometheus trailers is the same one as was used in the "Alien" trailers back in 1979, yes...
But it is in no way the original "distress call" signal that was picked up by the Nostromo (which is the question the OP was asking).
If anyone wants to hear what the original "distress signal" actually sounded like, pick up a copy of the "Alien" DVD (the edition that was included in the Quadrilogy boxed set, not the "Director's Cut") and go to the deleted scenes. There is a scene where the crew listens to the transmission - it's completely different from the siren-scream in the trailers.
The scene itself was added back in later for the "Director's Cut" release of Alien, but the sound effect of the distress signal was changed (not sure why).

MemberOvomorphMay-25-2012 3:52 PMThat's exactly what i thought, really don't get it... That was one of the best soundtrack of nthe movie. if you search a little you can get the Alien special edition o.s.t. there is an alternate track with the real music intro : THE REAL DEAL pure bliss...

MemberOvomorphMay-25-2012 4:32 PMThe distress call in the Alien movie was nothing like the crew of the Nostromo had ever heard. When the message was replayed in front of most of the crew they were surprised at the sound of the call itself. Ripley commented that- it doesn't sound like any radio signal I ever heard. Then Lambert said- maybe it's a voice. The transmission by the way is of a humming sort, but it also has scratchy, almost insectoid type noise added to it. Maybe that is the way the Space jockeys sound. It's just an idea.

EDIT: Wow, I found it, someone posted the original version on Youtube.
If this doesn't scare you, nothing will...
