Too Much Knowledge?

Without writing a book of a post, I just want to mention briefly a few ideas that people can investigate on their own. They are simply ideas for people to think about regarding events over the last few decades in the Middle East. Weapons of Mass Destruction. They were never 'found'. Was it a false reason to attack such as people seem to be led to believe? Or could Saddam have had knowledge or technology from the days of our creation. Bush reportedly 'removed' artifacts from the National Museum of Iraq after the 2003 invasion. Why? There are oil reserves all over the world that could completely replace the need for using oil in that area of the Middle East but the struggle to maintain a stronghold there for oil remains. Why? But really.....why? Could it possibly be that those in power need a viable reason to remain in that area of the world to continue looking for what they are searching for? Evidence of who we are, who put us here, and any technology that is rumored to be left behind? The oil makes a great metaphoric oily substance. Ancient knowledge has always been protected to the death. Modern day Iraq is where Sumer once stood. Through the Sumerians we obtained the 60 minute hour, 12 month year, the zodiac, the list goes on and on. They established the first written language and were therefore able to document what was happening on this planet during their time. Only around 200 people in the world can translate the tablets left behind. What other knowledge or technology did they leave behind that could potentially be dangerous in the wrong hands? I am not saying that the people who have it now are the right people to have it. If the technology they left behind or the knowledge leading us to it could create life, that could be very dangerous in the wrong hands...perhaps any hands. Saddam did have eight 'look-alikes' or 'body-doubles’.

Knowledge of our beginnings, finding it in modern day Iraq which in history is Sumer. Sumerian cuneiform is the writing appearing on much of what I see in clips of Prometheus movie previews. The Annunaki. I have been waiting for a movie close to this topic for a long time.

Alright, Your saying that the writing on the temple wall is Sumerian, So do you think that the ability to write, the language it self, is alien? Not just in this movie but in how you view real life? Is that why you have been waiting for a movie to talk about this subject for a long time?

I think if the 'wrong people' had this technology we probably wouldn't be on this discussion board, or on the planet for that matter.. but ya I believe there's a lot of shady shit going on in the world and the stuff we're fed by the media, all we see is the tip of the iceberg...

Interesting. I'm also very interested to see how the Anunnaki and Sumerians are portrayed in the movie. As for Saddam, he believed he was the reincarnation of King Neberkenezer sent to return Babylon to its former glory. Maybe he did find "something"...

Wow, so vicious. I choose to explore our many possible beginnings and the one that seems quite possible seems to line up with what Prometheus appears to be looking like it is about. You may want to look up the Sumerian Tablets of Creation. But I don't care to go into the religious warping of it that happened down the road. No one has made a movie about this, no one respected at least, that moves in circles that have quite powerful ties to global elites.

I am following you. The Sumerian Tablets of creation are the start of this movie. The Sumerians would have had no way to understand the planets and they were given technology to start civilization by a "god" . All of that fits into the narrative of this movie that life and start ups in advancements were "seeded" .

Well, as the post suggests politics and ancient knowledge, here is my take on your comment dear Nin Uru friend ("city lady", cool!) It´s not my intention to strike a nerve, nevertheless here we go: Sumer is important, cause is the seat of the first human civilization... about 5000 years ago. And as such, they had the first alphabet, calendar, city-states, agriculture, architecture, mathematics, astronomy, astrology, temples, etc, etc... Reading about early sumerians is very interesting, specially their religious beliefs, you can easily see from where the Abrahamic religions took their cue. But here is the thing,... people have the recurring idea, and encouraged by new age zealots and charlatans, that everything old "was wise and powerful". The "golden age" idea. What dangereous technology early sumerians had besides stone and pottery in the earliest period, or the bronze of a 1000 years later? In mathematical achievements the Ionian greeks after taking Babylonian astronomy (here is the sumerian tip of the hat) and Egyptian geometry, were the real precursors of knowledge without magic, and for that, the birth of reason. If it weren´t for those revolting christians that slaughtered all the philosophers and freethinkers under the emperor Valens, we would have had Calculus and the rest it implies maybe 1500 years before Leibniz and Newton. Ancient knowledge has its fare share of bad knowledge, as everything was entangled: science, religion, the law, medecine, social life, etc. As it should be logically. These are the efforts of man to comprehend its surroundings and to take one more step in the evolution of ideas (and sometimes a step back, as in the most common example, the so called Dark Ages). :)

@Powereddie: Brilliantly and gracefully put. The "golden age" thing is a sociological phenomenon that's been kicking around now for a number of decades - it got its start, more or less, back in the 60's and the counter-cultural movements born during that period; a period which, not surprisingly, corresponds with the beginnings of the great disillusionment that so many people felt with modern society in general and the west in particular. Most of the people who were (and are) drawn the most strongly to those ideas are people who tend to either feel marginalized or alienated by mainstream society, or for whom the "system" hasn't worked, or who just find the world of the 20th/21st centuries - where our knowledge, information and understanding of the world and universe now dwarfs anything that we have any record of having existed before - intolerably dull; those who feel that somehow the 'mystery' has been drained out of the world by the dissemination of all this pesky knowledge. Carl Sagan once said "mankind will always need dragons," and the more I learn about people, the more I realize that he was right.

The destruction of the Library of Alexandria sent an amazing amount of information into the void ushering in that great spectacle we refer to the dark ages where people were sown into thier undergarments for fear of bathing. How we ever survived that period is beyond me.

@John D.... Great to know well read, reasonably and sensible people here on the site. You know, I think it started after the early great tragedies of the 20th century, that inaugurated the end of the "Age of Progress". Certainly the New Age delushion dates from the sixties. Sagan´s "Demon hunted world" should be a required book in high school. Cheers dude. :)

@Abordoli,... I heard of a movie about Hypatia of alexandria, is it any good? Does it serve history (and mankind for that matter). :)

Yes, I saw that movie. Excellent!!! It is called "Agora". Some is fiction, but the backbone of it is historical fact. Hypatia did exist and she did figure out not just the heliocentric model of our solar system but also the fact that the planets travel in elliptical orbits giving us the seasons.

@Abordoli,... "Agora", I´ll "aquire it" (as someone put it here on the page, hehe) immediatly. I remember the chapter form Carl Sagan´s Cosmos were he mentions the story and fate of the last scientist of Egypt under the rule of the Ptolemies... Good to know that the producers didn´t stray from history´s path on its essence. :)

There is a famous book that came out over forty years ago, and has been been revised since then, it is called Chariots of the Gods. Which was written by Erich Von Daniken. Who is a Swiis writer and considered the father of the ancient astronomy theory. His theory is that so called superior life forms arrived on earth thousands of years ago and left there mark on the planet. He also thinks that these so called beings were considered gods by the early inhabitants of earth. They were giants physically. He claims that there was interbreding between humans and these so called giants. His ideas are fascinating and make a lot of since. His theory is supported by the bible, the tales of Gilgamesh, and the physical evidence left all around the world. It's a a great book that I think you should all read.

@Rubirosa,... yes, as I have posted repeatedly, von Däniken´s views were taken by Ridley and Co. as basis for the story in Prometheus. And sorry, but these views have no merit whatosoever. He is a charlatan. And whoever holds his views dear is deluded or in on the racket. Recomended book: James Randi´s "Flim Flam!" to know more on Däniken :)

People who go on the attack and call other people derogatory names for their theories are themselves the names which they are calling others. The majority of humanity has a big problem with listening to other people's theories whether they believe they are right or wrong. Intelligent debate is one thing, assuming people who explore or entertain different viewpoints than you are delusional is insulting and rude. Like I stated in the beginning, I entertain many possibilities for our coming to being. This one fascinates me the most because it has in essence shaped our civilization up until modern times and if you need me to explain that to you, email me because it would take too long, or better yet go to a library. Anyway, with that being said, I would be interested in hearing your views. I would also like to hear your ideas on the rh- blood type. If you know anthropology you should have some knowledge ond opinion on this.

@Nin Uru,... Von Dänikens views HAVE NO MERIT because it doesn´t stand to good sound science and reason. What he does is "bad science". And this has been deconstructed with intellegent debate by the majority of the scientific community in different fields, to put it in your words. As it has to be. Remember in science there are no ludicrous ideas. There is a hypothesis, and if it fails scrutiny and evidence, then it has to be thrown. At least until new evidence is found to re-test said hypothesis. If you entertain different view points doesn´t make you delusional. You are delusional if after scrutiny you keep ignoring the evidence and still cling to a bad idea (that is why I said either people ignore OR are in on the racket, as many people are, because there is a market for it, and there is always someone who wants to make a buck). To have a delusion or being delusional is not an insult. Like is not demeaning or rude being ignorant or not knowledgeable about certains topics (aren´t we all ignorants in the end?). Perhaps you need to refresh yourself on the meaning of the word: A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary To put it simply, is a belief not based in reality. In everyday use, It could be derived from simple things as opinion or misinformation. The latter is usually the case. To give another Sagan tip: what books or journals/magazines are you gonna read? Thousands are printed every week. If you are an avid reader, how many books can you read in a lfetime? The trick consists in knowing what to read. To know what to know. That´s the key. I struck a nerve as is to be expected by people who follow these views. Usually they also follow all kinds of bad "knowledge", like "Greys", Area 51, crop circles, Astrology, magic crystals, healing touch, dowsing, etc... I´m just making a point and stating the hard facts. (It´s a good thing we are not talking about Religion and its institutions,... don´t get me started, hehe). My views on the Rh blood group system? :S If you are refering to "the mystery of RH negative", I think the debate ends by the moment is introduced as evidence that people of RH- blood tend to be abducted by aliens, have psychic abilities and are reptilians. Just grab a couple of biology and medicine books. Here´s a general entry on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rh_blood_group_system :)

what I just will never understand is how anybody critisizes the OPINIONS AND QUESTIONS this man raised, and then offers that any religion did any better job of explaining it all.
