Maybe the engineers are showing david some of their secrets to the universe...

It's possible he activates some sort of "Black Box" and he can see what happend?!;)

It' possibles that it' s in fact the curiousity of Dave ( android with a lot of questions).. that make ihm open the Pandora's Box ?!..

He activates the thing, then sees some recorded history, and how it came to only one survivor? I guess Acid is right, David wakes the engineer up and that starts all the killing.

there are at least two or three "holographic" engineers shown in this cap (I know cause I've seen the video replay a few 100 times ;) One is directly behind and to the right of David, the other (maybe) two are behind the star map. One is to the right of Saturn. My guess is this is some sort of recorded replay which David taps into showing the full "crew" of Engineers going about their business before they got mostly wiped out.

If you check it out though,there are 3 engineers..1 in the chair,1 right next to davids left arm (just see his head) and walking on the opposite side of screen walking through the hologram roll on next saturday!

Or maybe the last one has made the sacrificed himselfs and saved the other three?!

And the Engineer who sacrificed himselfs is the one the we see in Alien! Maybe?!

@Acidforblood The Engineer of sacrifice is in the Prologue of the film, to explain the beginnings of life on Earth. On the other hand maybe the Space Jockeys are not evil and Mr. Weyland steals fire from the Gods. And the fire of the Gods can be: 1) The Urns/Ampoules. 2) The Ship Juggernaut (Maybe Peter Weyland or David tries to steal the ship). With this technology, humans can be so dangerous and powerful as the Gods. Then the engineer should clean up the mess that humans have unleashed in the temple and then punish them.

Very interesting. Putting all that stuff together I think we're getting close to something. The fact the 3 other engineers went back into their sarcophagus before chestburst (if we admit it is the reason for the holes) may indicate those 3 were tracked down, attacked and eventually got impregnated, then got better (like post-facehugger Kane in 'Alien') and all 4 were unsuspicious of what was to come (again, like the Nostromo crew in 'Alien' ), so they all got into hibernation before the 3 parasited ones released their inner treasure. Now, about why only 3 were out running and infected... maybe the 4th one remained in the control room for security or to give the other 3 directions, like the Prometheus crew does when some leave the ship?

so, could explain for the cobralien too eventually... Have read somewhere (?reliable?) it is already there roaming when the crew explores the temple. Instead of a proto-facehugger, like many assumed it could be, that snaky friend might just as well be a proto-chestburster thatt came out of the parasited engineers? ...then would there be more than one? (i.e. three?) Is it somehow linked to what infected-Holloway impregnates Shaw with and that result in the tentaculous-Cuddles?

Also notice that there are more than 3 engineers running as we can see in the "the vision of Prometheus" featurette. I count 7 entities running towards David.

ok, now I am prob high on some stronger stuff but... I keep thinking there is not just 1 ship on LV-223. Maybe there are other ship(s), maybe the 'Alien' Derelict (even if its taking off and landing on LV-426 might not be explicitely shown). To get to the point: 7 engineers running and 1 safe somewhere else could add up to 8 engineers, that is 2x4 sarcophagus (sarcophagi?)... so maybe a second ship? I told you I was hitting something strong.... haha

Perhaps when david activates all this, he also activates the ship and awakens the jockey..

Awesome picture! Maybe David stumbles on the recording, and upon watching it, sees how to (sort of) operate controls, one thing leads to another...

lol at this whacky speculation...i read the leaked plot from someone who apparently has seen the film and it all seemed quite plausible. apparently the space jockeys are themselves android types ,created by a higher race,left to develop lifeforms and who are attempting to recreate their own makers( dudes with banana shaped heads im told ) all sorts of mutations take place as the human life forms get attacked,implanted and infected by all sorts of bad ass creepies. anyway,we,ll know all about it soon.....
