For those of you who remember the ground breaking sound effects that were in the original Alien, and how important the reverb and echos were to establishing the mood inside the derelict, this article is for you! It's all about the Sounds of Prometheus including technical specifications.

Great article thanks for sharing! When they talk about using ring modulation to "age" a characters voice can we assume they are talking about Peter Weyland??

terminatus - not sure, but I seem to recall from Alien, Ash (sans body) speaking with a very "liquidy" voice "you have my sympathies...". That, and the expedition to the derelict (over radio gear, in helmets, and in the environment) were the only odd voices I can recall.

Thankyou Shawluv:D for the one of the most refreshing posts here recently. All these quotes have got me stoked: The use of new tech, analogue, guitar pedals, flangers, "emulating a late-70s sound" "both technical and s'Sci-fi but also a bit gothic and Victorian — an amalgam of various technologies. Sounds are not always smooth or high tech.” "the original aesthetics from the first Alien film. We studied the voice processing of the android character in Alien and re-created that sound very closely." and - 'silence as a tool'- this is just too good. Can't wait until Saturday.

Great article. As someone working in sound and music every day, it's nice to see all the yummy tools. Strange that the "dis" AudioEase's Altiverb 7, yet go on to tell about how they used it and how important it was to get the "helmet speech" right...lol.

Will check out link, thanks. I for one am interested in the creepy sounds from the earlier Trailers. That Sh-- sounded wicked and add intensity to the scenes. the Imax Teaser sounds are the best.

Well I hope the Dolby surround 7.1 mix has lots of dialogue panning like ALIEN, ALEINS, ALIEN 3 and not so much in ALIEN Resurrection. I can picture the helmet sound breathing from a POV angle with sound on the surrounds breathing and moving forwards and backwards like in The Abyss 1989 so nothing new there its just not heard that often in film mix.
