Firstly a big thank you to all the staff for running such a great site!
Secondly (and I hope no one has already covered this - if they have, I'm sorry!) has anyone managed to decipher the alien hieroglyphs?
I read somewhere on here that they are similar to early Sumerian script...
Here's a link to a great picture on here: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/media/prometheus_screencap25.jpg

Ten bucks says someone eventually will come up with one ;-)
Rubirosa, have you ever seen a movie called The Fourth Kind? If not, check it out, there's one scene that still sticks with me in regards to ancient Sumarian. I personally would like to learn how to read it too.
And you're right Bio, there's glyphs on some of the ampules too. And on the side of the "sarcophagi" in the Orrery too. Definitely a language.

Its a shame Zechariah Sitchin isn't here any more...I'd PM him for some clues!!
I wonder if RS had someone to 'invent' the Engineer script just for the film?
Surely it can't be there just for eye candy..?

It has not been established that the language is in fact Sumerian. It does not look at all Sumerian to me and is probably a made up Alien language created just for the film.

The Sumerian language itself does not exist anymore. It was last spoken in the 18th century. There are however men like Mr. Zechariah Sitchin who can read it.

Hallo :-D we do our best ;-) as for the hieroglyphs, I don't think anyone has cracked the cypher yet
*see what I did there :-D*
I would be interested in a conversion chart from Engineer-ish to English (man I'm on FIRE tonight :-D someone get the extinguisher quick!!) so I can write obscure messages all over the place and have people wonder what the hell they're looking at :-D
But that's just the kind of jerk I am :-D
Welcome to the madhouse Biomechanomicon ;-)

Thanks Cypher!
I'll get that extinguisher ready!
A great idea regarding messaging people with 'engineer-ish' text! Maybe it could be the latest app for the iphone?
...hey we could make a fortune if we sell the idea to Apple???

"thereyouareJonesy"...as to this..."Cypher i read on another thread something about the...incident, can i ask what was that ??"
We would ask that the individual in question not be talked about openly on the forum as we do not wish to encourage him.....

I'll send you a PM Jonesy

One could decipher it if it translates directly to English. (Most common letter is 'e', etc.)

Im with the made up language idea it seems more likely than trying to put together a functional language just for a few props and scenes to me. Plus i would think that any language used by a massively more advanced race would have to be either stupidly complicated or breathtakingly obvious while being mysterious until you see the way it works.....
Cypher i read on another thread something about the *edit* incident, can i ask what was that ??
May 29, 2012
No Cypher I have never heard about the fourth kind. What is it about? It sounds interesting.

It's about a woman whose daughter is abducted and is still missing to this day, based on a true story
