Whe the hell not in France?
France is the second biggest country in Europe and Paris is the social and cultural epicentre of Europe.
And the release location decision is nothing to do with Ridley - thats all down to FOX

Sure doesn't at all :-D
Just as an interest point, the term "fag" was originally used to describe a bundle of sticks, and a person that collected them was called a "fag gatherer."
Really don't know how it got to be used as the term it is today though.........
Besides the point, I don't mean to offend anyone, I just hate that guy they picked to be Luke Skywalker's dad, he shoulda been cooler, and more Aussie :-P

@Cypher —
Kudos.
There are several gay members lurking around in the open here. None of us seems to skew too prudish, but I doubt anyone would take "fag" (in any context) as a term of endearment.
Thanks for respecting EVERYBODY here. As Kevin Smith commonly says, "That doesn't cost anything."

Sorry sukkal, didn't mean to offend by comparing you to Hayden, and besides, I had no idea you were gay. Apologies, have a look what I changed it to ;-P

Why? I don't know why, but tomorrow, 31th may, we have our premiere in the Netherlands, Amsterdam, and other cities...

It's coming out earlier in Europe to beat the major footie competitions later in June. I also expect that they expect that the English language reviews in the UK will be "GOOD" in general and that this will help sell the film in the US the following weekend.
@Cyper—
As a gay member of this community, I’ll tell you honestly that being associated with Hayden Christen_ _ _ is quiet offensive. "Fag" is not an epithet that I’m too jazzed about either.

I even have the one that Obi-Wan gives Luke in the original movie! AND it works too :-D awesome bright blue EL blade, but I'm going to get it converted to a string LED system ;-)

The Matrix movies (all of them) were filmed in Australia, also the mostly abominable Star Wars prequels. :-D
Not because the studios were crap, simply because George Lucas cast Hayden Christenwank as Anakin. I would have been a far better choice for that role :-P

France is STILL the cultural epicenter of the world.....
London has the banks.....
America has the rap-artists.......

@dsjohnson84; What?? Are you being serious?? O_O
Ridley Scott is British, he makes all his movies at Pinewood in the UK. Not every blockbuster is made by Americans. Take James Cameron for example, he isn't American he is Canadian and all his films are Blockbusters.

Yeah the Paris thing doesn't make any sense... The US makes all of these blockbusters... I don't ever hear of one coming from France (no offense). Just a weird choice. Even the UK thing is odd. Being from the US, I am just not used to getting huge summer movies third in the world, lol.

I think mostly its do to the fact this isnt really a hollywood production it a U.K. production and who woul'nd want a premiere in Paris as apposed to L.A.
May 29, 2012
It's premiering on the 1st in the UK and on the 8th in the USA/Canada
They showed it in France first most likely to get the harshest critics out of the way and Paris is a big deal.

Hear hear Sukkal - I have already had to ask users not to refer to stuff as 'gay' meaning not good. It makes me sad that people do it thinking there's nothing wrong with it...
Anyway they will have timed the release dates around big holidays in each country and not to collide with other films. We have a four day weekend here in the UK next weekend - it wouldn't have made sense to launch then but with a weeks notice and the reviews out in time they will cash in...
May 30, 2012
....someone called me a fag in a PM the other day...I am Gay and i did feel offended...then I pm'd back and called him a C......and got over it...lol
The name calling then went back and though...and then we just kinda stopped....so silly!

As a frenchman I agree that France big production movie level is close to zero. We lack studios, first of all. Italy, UK...they all have their big studios, we don't.
Also I don't know why but while photography can be very real in french movies (better than most american ones), the direction is often pretty bad. It's terrible to see that an american tv series (game of thrones) can do what a full fledged production could never do in France.
