I liked the movie!! but i have some questions. did the first engineer "sacrifice" himself? did they come back a few times (our ancestors seemed to know about them, see starmap) did contact stop same time as when they got their trouble with the goo or something else, dead bodies 2000 year old. any one else saw the movie with same thoughts?

I just watched prometheus in the cinema like an hour ago And well the conclusion,,,, well here we go.. I consider myself a true alien franchise fan with everything close to it, meaning avp, predators and all the omnibus novels and comics from dark horse.. And to be honest, with all that in the back of my mind this movie is kinda disapointing.. It leaves so many new quistions unanswered, and have some parts that really could have been deeper and better explained for the audience.. And the level of horrer in this movie is nothing like the 4 original alien movies.. More like avp, sadly. We basiclly dont get any information about the engineers story or their motivation for hating the human race so much, or what they where doing in that compound on a remote planet that we thought was what?? Why do we think they created us, is something I ask myself again and again.. There is 2 scenes in the beginning of the movie, with no great explanations and then all over sudden we see prometheus on its way to find mans creators.. I mean damn ridley you could have done a little more to convince the audience that they could have created us.. Since mans creation is a sore subject to many.. But weyland industries are willing to spend 1billion on this trip based on some cavepaintings.. hmm.. And why could'nt we see some more of weyland industries, like why the company was even motivated to be involed in this trip.. And not just because an old man thought that maybe they will find mans creators, and he might be given a longer life, you dont even find out why he thinks like that.. come on.. The creatures and monsters in prometheus reminded me alot about last years prequel to "The thing". Not to mention the alien seen in the last scene of the movie, I dont really know how to explain it, but im not buying the fact, that its is suppose to be the first alien, or how the alien race was created.. The alien monster deserves a much deeper story than what you will see in the movie.. Im sticking to the storyline in the novels and comics and still hope we one day get to see an Alien homeworld, maybe in a future installment of avp... With all that said, the movie is left very open and it definetly needs a sequel or 2 if it is suppose to be considered a prequel to the original Alien movies.. or if it is suppose to have any bigger meaning in general.. I really feel bad about writing all this negative stuff about Prometheus, I really really looked forward for this movie to come out,.. But as a true Alien franchise fan, I have to admit that coming out of the theater I was left with the same irritating feeling I got when I saw Avp2:Requiem.. Any true alien fan will know what im talking about,, not a good a feeling.. I just expected a much more deep, darker and more adventureres story than this.. Im not gonna go into details about what you will see in the movie, ill wait until it hit theaters in states.. Then well see if anyone agrees, or if im the only one who thinks alien deserves a way better prequel story than this.. Hope I havent spoiled it too much for anyone

The first in the movie did sacrifice himself they seemed to have come back a few times (see the Erich von Daniken theories used in this movie and many others, if you do not know about them, you have a harder time to understand the Alien movies) Yes.. the contact stopped 2.000 years ago I understood the movie very well except for the first man falling apart on the waterfall.. had to find out later that he gave earth DNA. 2 possible explanations for the "wanting to kill us" attitude first.. they created us as food for their weapon of destruction (alien) second they wanted to destroy us before the Aliens used us as a way to reproduce and swarm the universe... In all cases it seems that the strong reptile snake has played a role in the problems these enigeers had. all in all a great movie as it makes one think

@ KingPredator .. did we see the same movie(s) Prometheus has a great and clear story It is said why they made us :("because they could") and why they might want to destroy us ("because they can") ... reasons for this i wrote above. we are just food for the weapons of mass destruction... or they saw the Aliens coming and wanted to stop its spread.. the answer to that in one future movie a clear end to a movie is the end of earning money and the end of earning money is the end to movies

Wasn't the 1st alien at all, it was the newest. Refined and experimented on. The eggs in Alien are ancient.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

ok, but i can't see it. you all seem to assume they want to kill us. we don't know right? that's the beauty, we think david asked what old fart asked, what if he said something different. David strikes me the most in the movie. yes, David say a lot and makes us think in the direction he wants. It's because of gim we assume they want to destroy earth or humans on earth, but we can't know it no it's not a horror/scary movie, but i like it

I do not think all is so clear. 'because they could" etc... was said by David, but we are not sure it's telling the truth. We do not know if engineers created life on earth or only inject their DNA to recreate themselves. We do not know if engineers are really the creators. One drunk and destroyed it self in a sort of DNA liquid that has re-created the same specie or will create the same if we finish our evolution to that great model of human. There are urns with a liquid that could have been product by the same way, starting from the original xeno. That could explain we can see it on the wall. A potion to transform species in a DNA potion and spread it into a planet? Xeno could be weapons; but engineers could be tools... Could it be a third alien race at the top, creating and controlling all? I did like the movie; IMO not a great one as Alien or Blade Runner, but a very good one, maybe because i'm still trying to find answers...

Im not asking why they created us, like you said its made clear in the movie."because they could". But im asking why do we think, they created us?? The cavepaintings dont really tell much more than that earth might have been visited by the engineers before. And if it is an invitation to come and visit, then why do they automaticlly think its from our creators. Im just feeling like something is left out here, some clues to why it should be from our creators. I got the feeling that weyland or vickers knew more than what we first think, but im left totally unanswered when it comes to that. After having some time reflect about the movie, im still wondering if the black goo in the urns was alien dna! And if the worms that where around the urns when they started leaking where mutating into the snake/facehugger things that attacked the left behind crew members. They did'nt show up before the urns started leaking and little worm things where bubbling in the goo. If so where did the alien dna come from? it still kinda leaves the aliens story open to a prequel. If what we saw in prometheus was just a SJ experiment with weapons of mass destruction, based on alien dna gone wrong. Then im still asking where did the alien race come from? they had to get the dna from some source. And the alien in the end of the movie could just be another freak mutation of alien like we have seen before with the predalien or the humanoid alien in alien resurrection. like the dna just ended up trying to mutate into its original look, hence the alien look alike in the of the movie.. I dont know, this movie really just left me unanswered if what im saying is completly wrong

Or, the sacrificial engineer is Prometheus (so to speak) and he created humankind without approval from the elder engineers...then, left clues for us to follow to obtain "fire" from the gods/elders. In a way, the sacrifical engineer could also be similar to Lucifer...rule in Hell (Earth) rather than serve in Heaven (Engineer's homeworld). Just a thought.

@monk in that case, prometheus is a group of engineers, the sacrified one and others in the ship that came back years after

Again it sucks to put such a great mystery into an alien franchise movie. Did the space jockey create all life on earth, well then that should include dinosaurs, mammels and everything else that has been living here.. Just another irritatating quistion one could ask one self after watching prometheus. And to be honest thats not what the audience should ask themselves after watching an alien movie. I dont know, just seems like something really went wrong while developing this story, could have been a great stand alone sci-fi movie, but then it shouldent have been set in the alien universe at all to begin with..

I dont know, looking at it like that, just takes it further away from the alien franchise in my view.. Im thinking more and more that this story should not have been set in the alien franchise to begin with at all. I mean the engineer in itself should never have been humanoid. To all the real fans, think about how you felt when you first saw the space jockey in the original alien from 1979, so mysterious weird and creepy looking. A totally mysterious race totally out of this world. Capable of manipulating dna and terraforming planets, and yet looked like nothing we had seen before. It should have been like that in prometheus as well. I really have to ask, and this is to everyone. Based on the mystery that has always been around the sj, did you really expect the space jockey to be. A buffed up dude that has to blow a pan whistle/flute to power up his derelict ship, and wears a elephant mask to fly it! Seriously, I dont know if its just me, but it feels like a mock to the whole mystery that has always been around the space jockey.. I mean come on, you start the classic derelict ship with a pan flute.?! wtf I think some of the fanart of how the space jockey could have been is alot better. And again it feels like the story of prometheus should have been set in another universe than the Alien universe.

Am I still the only who thinks they should have made this story take place in a different universe, and that it shouldent have been a part of the alien franchise at all to begin with???? hit me back people, would love to hear some more deep thoughts from others who have seen the movie..

***SPOILER ALERT*** Here are a few of my personal grudges: 1. Most of the scenes only seemed to be there to create a stage for the effects. Half of them made no sense what-so-ever. 2. Overblown soundtrack. Even when someone was picking up a cup of coffee you had a fucking orchestra exploding. Seemed really silly and pulled me out of the experience again and again. 3. Really badly written script. All the "great" and "provocative" ideas presented seemed like they had been lifted straight from a Wikipedia page. Ridley threw a couple of really trite concepts in there, but totally failed to discuss them. 4. The worst dialogue in a Science Fiction film since Event Horizon. Charlize stresses how this is Weylands most expensive expedition ever (trillions of billions, whatever). A mission that can't fail. Yet they have hired the most retarded crew that seem more like "dick in yo mouth" Jocks than real scientists. They don't seem loyal to the company either. What could have been great discussions about scientific and existential questions is completely ruined by stupid lines like "So you just wanna throw 300 years of Darwinism out the window? lol". 5. David seemed to be the only averagely intelligent and educated person on the Prometheus. They try to make him look smart by having him learn several languages in no time. But he honestly doesn't utter anything more complex than how to make a cup of coffee. Yet he does it with a sort of cold elegance that I could appreciate. He really stole the stage. 6. Why did Charlize have to be Weylands daughter? This is the kind of bullshit that just made the script even more incoherent (point 1.). It didn't support the main story in any fucking way. It just made for a really silly scene. 7. The horror and suspense was very badly directed. The scene where the two geologists (though they seem more like teenagers working at the local gas station) loose their lives (at least one of them does) in the "ampule room", is just... Man I was so disappointed. Seemed more silly than horrific. I did on a positive note like most of the designs. Especially the insides of the Prometheus. Loads of cool gadgets. The outside design didn't do anything for me. Much too messy.

With everything that has been said so far and from watching the movie, I really think ridley f'd up by choosing lindeloff's script.. And some of his statements really shows that he himself kinda underestimated how beloved the Alien is.. Ive read earlier somewhere that ridley said the "Alien in its original shape is worn out".. which I think is just ridicoules.. Ive seen the alien appear really nice in 3 movies so far, and im talking apperance only, the way its animated or shown.. Alien rescurrection shows the alien really nice, I love the sounds and screams from the aliens in that movie, eventough its definetly not my favorite Alien film. The first avp also showed some nicely animated aliens, and also showed us the alien in combat which was awsome, eventough the first avp also suffered from a terrible script. The alien Queen in Aliens speak for itself, its the most dark and creepy feeling when ripley first encounters it.. With all that said, im still reflecting about prometheus after watching it yesterday.. And so far it is really starting to bug me, that all the designs of the creatures and monsters in prometheus look like things ive seen before in other completly different movies.. For example the squid like monster in the end, reminds me so much of the creature in "the thing", almost felt like I was watching "the thing" when I finally saw the creature in full scale.. And the scene where shaw gets it removed from her stomach in the medlab, did'nt seem scary like it was meant to, and when the thing is finally pulled out of her, I was so disapointed to see something that looked so much like the little creatures in the movie "splice". Even fifields mutation dident seem so scary, cause you never really find out what happend to him, besides from that fact that he got one inside of him, but he just goes nuts, kills a few and then get killed himself, and then it kinda seems like its all forgotten. The space jockey itself, well.. I dont want to sound like a hater, but if anyone has seen blade 2, then notice how he look and reminds alot like the old leader vampire in blade 2, they could have been brothers is all im saying.. The alien in the end is not even alien worthy in my opinion, it looks way to much like some of the b movie creatures that have been trying to copy the succes of the original alien creature over the years.. Im just saying that the creature designs of prometheus does not seem original and unique at all.. It all reminded me about something that ive seen before.. And that sucks, cause in my opinion we havent even seen half of the original Aliens capabilities, and how cool it could look with todays cgi. I hope someone in hollywood is wise enough to know that the audience wants to see more Alien. Im personally crossing my fingers for a future installment of avp, nothing like the first two. But with a nice epic script and the horror and adventure level we saw in aliens by james cameron.. But its highly unlikely that anyone will reboot avp at the moment, sadly
