Who really is David ?

David
MemberOvomorphMay 31, 2012477 Views13 RepliesDavid is very intriguing in that movie. Here are my questions :
1. If David is a robot made by human, how does he know the Engineers language ?
2. Why does David inseminated Holloway with the alien "virus" which lead to the birth of the alien ?
3. How David would know about another spaceship hidden on that planet ?
4. How does he know about where the Engineers homeland is ?
I think David knows way too much to have been made by humans.
What do you guys think ?

Blood and Outlander : ok for the questions 1, 3 and 4 (Let's say it's Science Fiction logic).
However, It still doesn't make any sense that Weyland would ask David to inseminate Holloway... I mean, how could Weyland know what would happen ? Was that just an experiment ?
And beyond that, I think David's behavior is really weird. His conversation with Holloway was hiding something. He clearly had something in mind.

He knows their language because of his programming, he can understand any language immediately most likely even an alien one (He has a Weyland speech recognition Implant). The rest I cannot answer because I haven't seen the movie yet, but I assume he knows because like you said he can understand the SJ language.

1. Its magic, not science but magic. Saying that something is super complicated and advanced does not mean it should be able to do anything it wants as long as it is convenient to move the story along (like instantly learn an Alien language or interface with Alien technology)
2. She got impregnated by Holloway who was infected by David
3. Once again, magic.
4. And yet again, magic.

1 It's close to an ancient human language he's been learning for two years.
2 He was ordered by someone who wanted to experiment
3 There clearly are several similar structures (pyramids, it has been discussed a lot here)
4 He's seen the map and knows how to operate it
So no magic, logic.

1)Broca Dialectical Implant
Weyland Industries introduces revolutionary, game-changing language tool. It is the first ever to require no actual learning on the consumer’s behalf.
2) The implication is that Weyland ordered him to.
3) 5 Temples, 5 ships
4) He downloaded the info from the Sjs version of the Interwebs.

@Blood really that's logic? First off, the gaps between a language and another similar language kind of like our human languages are huge. So by that "logic" if I study cuniform then I should easily be able to read any language with slight similarities to cuniform? There are huge gaps in understanding between a human language and a complex alien language especially when describing technology that does not even exist on earth. And you are telling me that shape is what denotes the function of a structure? A pyramid that is made out of large slabs of stone is the same as an extremely advanced biomechanoid extraterrestrial structure? So if I walked through a pyramid I could then somehow extract the knowledge necessary to operate super-advanced computer software that happens to lie in a pyramid shaped building? What is the logic in that? And seeing a vast map of the universe which is coded in alien symbols and uses an operational pad that is nothing like what we have on earth? I'm sorry but that is not logic. That is magic, giving a completely non-scientific explanation but writing it as science does not make it such.

Movie magic! It''s part of the buy popcorn and check the logic portion of your brain at the door.
Best movie magic I've ever seen: " Independence Day". Infecting the mothership's computer with an Apple laptop! Bravo!

If there are 'bits left to answer' that they saved for the sequel to make this half-film (definitely half empty, not half full), thats cheating the audience.
What went through my mind on the "reveal" at the end -
(i) i remember them talking in alien interviews about how they contemplated showing an egg in the corner of the lifeboat , but wouldn't do it because its like cheating the audience, and its cheesy. (and i'd just watched a film that demonstrated how to cheesily cheat the audience)
(ii) the "reveal" in AVP.
hell, i just had another scary thought...
AVP might actually have been better than this.

Idiots! From the first minutes of the film, it was clear that David Kiberg and kiberg at the time where there is an artificial intelligence, and his mission was to make contact at any cost for the owner of this company. What about David studied several languages both during flight, as he replied when he was asked about language "may be able to communicate" and characters or how to say the letters of the languages he learned and comparing logic pressed. So what is it you're raving, not the script of the film.

Genuinely laughed out loud @:

1 The symbols were the same as symbols on Earth, he may have analyzed the dialects and tried to create something understandable
3 Yes, so magic that I thought about this even before he talked about it in the movie. It's a freaking military base! There are pyramids aligned, each exactly the same.
4 He can operate the ship because he can read it. Also he saw the map.
It's not because you didn't like the movie that you can criticize for such little things. It's a movie. If you search so much you could easily criticize half of what happens in Alien.
