why did the engineer at the start sacrifice him sell! why did david infect Holloway the way he died i was like what just kill me bye bye less he came back?

they did look rather human tbh and when i think back the dna mach was cheesy & the bit they put the rod into the head i was like WTF the cgi looked off at that part or is that just me

just got back from it too hear in Glasgow....really dissapointed with it...coulda been so much better....first hour was good setting up the tension...looked amazing ...just never delivered and turned into a regular monster movie....as for the engineers?...all that creativity and genius and they are just a bunch of thugs....piss off....too many holes an unanswered questions.

I'm not bothered about spoilers as I thought it would help me with the finer nuances in sticking this and alien together.
The story goes nowhere, some of the acting is awful, you dont give a shit about any of the characters and I am lost (excuse the pun) as to what Linelof, fox and RS have done here.

i thot it was good! the bit where shaw gets cut open in the med pod my gf fanted and i had to leave :( did it not get better after that?
you must have enjoyed the start of the film surely? the engineers face was freaky lol

I would definitely compare it to "the thing" : it suffers the exact same problem as that film, i.e., there simply is no surprise , you know exactly where its going to end up, so any attempt to create an actual story is probably stifled by that..
Ouch.
I'd been looking forward to watching this for a very long time... what I just typed pains me.
with avatar - i think I enjoyed that film a lot more because: I'd stayed away from all the promotional material - funnily enough, because whenever I saw the blue people on magazine covers, I thought "that looks crap, i can't be arsed getting excited by that film" .. I hardly knew anything about it when I went to see it.
someone said to me, "whatever you've seen in the trailers, it doesn't matter, there will be a surprise in the last 8 minutes"
LMAO.

i feel your pain. so many holes.
to think that fox, ridley scott and co will make money from this upsets me.

Just got back from watching it myself.
I would say the spoilers in the run up to it ... spoiled it.
too much information for sure.
I would say as a prequel to a famous film goes it sort of suffered the same fate as "the thing".
the material that was there was very underwhelming IMO, but again it could just be because of the huge amount of trailer material that let you piece together all the events

Whats interesting now is going back over the speculation and fan fiction ideas .. on this site. I bet some would be better :)
I think most people here probably had more entertainment with the whole "what could it be.." than we'd have got from the actual film.
its like..
its christmass, i want to open my presents!
oh.
meh.
(hehe look what i did there)

Engineers blowing flutes to start the ship? Seriously!? What's next, alien disco? It was so bad. And the final alien did not resemble HR Gigers work. It would fit into a pixar movie though.

Well, shit. This isn't the news I wanted to hear about this film, but I do appreciate the honest reviews and appraisals you folks are posting.

I thought it would suck. Too much hype, 5 writers, how many scripts done and redone, a space opera about the origins of man...all adds up to a crap fest of a movie. He should have just made a freakin Alien Prequel.
I haven't even seen the movie and I feel cheated already.
I would rather see a release of Alien in the theater than this.

Agree arrgy, a simple alien prequel would be better. This shouldn't even be compared to Alien, It's like a sick joke signed Damon.
