-----------------------------------------------------------------Just got back from seeing it and really enjoyed it, it was entertaining, beautiful to look at, and I can't wait to see the next one.
I saw it with my 18 year old daughter who has no interest in the Alien films and she said she enjoyed it. If you want something like Alien or Aliens then watch Alien or Aliens. A lot of people do not like the Alien franchise so by going a different route with this I think Ridley will open up the Alien franchise to a bigger audience. It is far more interesting than the star wars prequels which I felt shrunk the Star Wars universe, this one expands the Alien Universe and opens it up to new possibilities.

I'd agree - I think many people have built up this film WAY TOO MUCH in their own minds and that is clearly setting yourself up for disappointment...

dopelgangerJune 01, 2012
@roaringpantsa - thanks for that information. It seems that alot of people are expecting some kind of Alien movie and when they do not get it they trash this movie. I am now looking forward to seeing it Friday ay 12:01.

I agree, this film is everything and more. Waited years for this to hit home.
I loved it. Well done Ridley

This is more like it! It's nice to see people pointing out the positive aspects of this movie!

I couldn't have put it any better

I agree: the hype has been incredible. And, unfortunately, forums like this (as wonderful as they are for community spirit) stoke the fires of peoples imaginations way too much.
However I really feel there are genuine gripes to be had. It's certainly not as bad as some detractors have made out, but i feel that too many people are letting their emotions control them: they thought it was gonna be 'sublime', it was in fact 'good', they feel let-down, they lash out.
I am happy however films with this level of ideology and theme are being made in 2012, and await the sequel.

Bullshit. Bad storytelling is bad storytelling.

the last 2 buy guys with 47 and 2 posts respectively !!! that right there to ME says it all. Agenda, came here to Bash ! Get a Life, you aren't fooling anyone who's lasted here any longer than that. Ya ever hear the expression "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?", I'd say that applies here in it's entirety in a thread in time like this one is right now!

"I think many people have built up this film WAY TOO MUCH in their own minds and that is clearly setting yourself up for disappointment..."
It's hard to build up something when you are already told all of the major plot points from the promotional trailers and snippets. It's sad when a movie doesn't provide you MORE than what you already were given in the trailers, at least in regards to the story.
Truth.

dsjohnson84June 01, 2012
"if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?"
LOL, that's why it's called criticism. People need thicker skin if they can't deal with negative opinions because using this expression is just tired and immature.
I went through 6-years of Architecture School and if I didn't get honest subjective & objective criticism, and instead got treated nicely all of the time, my work would have never matured and grown.

I couldn't disagree more, You got 1 hour and 5 however minutes of it, the rest of us have seen what...a grand total of maybe 4-5 minutes so far?
I'll get back to you on this !

....sparky!!!!....so you did see it....what's your verdict!....have you posted a review yet?....been looking for it all day....now tell me.... tell me ....TELL ME!!!.;)
WindoodJune 01, 2012
utter horseshit, its a scifi film. Not Citizen Kane. having said that I can't think of anything in the scifi genre that is exciting AND intelligent, not sure there ever has been, this is both. It exceeded my expectations, guess I had mine set just right. Can't wait for a sequel now, hope blade runner gets put on ice for a bit.

@Spartacus
I don't remember the thread where this convo took place already, but we went through the plot and argued about what the movie revealed that was SIGNIFICANT that the trailers didn't show. I think the result was nothing but perhaps the ending with Shaw.
I'm willing to do it again... I mean... there have been 24-26 videos posted about this movie... trailers, tv spots, featurettes. Everything important was revealed if you watched them, even in JUST the trailers/tv spots.

No need man I believe ya. It's cool, everyone takes away exactly whatever they needed at the moment from everything they see IMO!
and that means I am still waiting for my turn and mine.
and in 6 1/2 more days that happens and I could NOT BE MORE PLEASED RIGHT NOW ABOUT IT THAN I AM !!!

SpartacusJune 01, 2012
it also helps that it is almost Friday Night and I have a head start on most of you I think as I got home at Noon from my over nite shift.

@roaringpantsa:
Judging by the age of your daughter we're almost the same age. In my days I've watched quite a few movies. And I was surprised to see one of my top 10 movies playing in Prometheus.
I found Prometheus a over-simplified, incoherent piece, not worthy of seeing again, but I promised my 22-year old daughter to watch it with her friend.
I'll be happy to post their reaction as well.

JuxtaposeJune 01, 2012
@ Spartucus
...oh sorry...i thought you got to see it last night...lol...I am only getting to see it after the 8th as well....I still cannot wait......i am counting mostly positive responses.....
What ridley is trying to do with Prometheus is add the same type of enigmatic feel we experienced in the original.....but at the same time also create a new franchise....it's dangerous and difficult.....considering how fanboys are likely to react....it was inevitable that this movie was gonna divide and polarize the fans!....

What does the number of posts made have to do with anything? I have only made 3 posts on this site and I do not feel that I have any less right to make a comment than anyone else. Until I saw the film I had nothing to say about it. Everything was pure speculation. Having seen it and bearing in mind how much hype there has been I decided to stick my oar in. There is a very annoying moral high ground being displayed out there. I wasn't expecting another Alien movie. Ridley Scott stated it was not one. That does not change the fact that the film is a mess. You might not like my opinion but that's your problem not mine. Do you expect everyone who doesn't like the film to shut up because you don't agree? Jump down of the high horse guys. It's only a (bad) movie.

SpartacusJune 01, 2012
It means you "prolly" would have ONLY came in here and said something negative no matter what...
WindoodJune 01, 2012
Yes, i'd agree with sparty there,
so, someone saw a film they didn't like....cool. Now move on with your life, it really is silly and pointless to hang around discussing something you don't like, just move on. I think it was very fast paced, but films are these days, because the people who make them profitable have very short attention spans. i for one thought it was great, and better than I thought it would be, and i didn't have low expectations after being on here for a while and keeping tabs on it for ages.
it's very hard to please fanboys and make something interesting to the general public, i'd imagine its impossible. I think LOTR was as good as anyone could possibly make those dreary books, but it got a right good slagging off from fanboys. Tough.
I went to my local Forbidden Planet shop after the movie, everyone in there had went to last nights midnight showing, and all were raving about it.
This film will create its own fanboys, and that is what they set out to do.
DirtyjackJune 01, 2012
Are you 10years old? You don't know me or anything about me. I wanted to like this film but it is not good enough. Speak to me again when you grow up!!

SpartacusJune 01, 2012
@Dirtyjack
actually no, going to be 50 next week, you...?...17...18...?...25...32...?
In your case it doesn't change a f'ing thing at this point and I would be enlightened if you could humble me with your acumen on how it is you suddenly thought it might be wise to have sissy fit like a little girl?

SpartacusJune 01, 2012

so very well put "Juxty" ! Thanks and I agree!
DirtyjackJune 01, 2012
Not a fanboy , just a dissapointed movie goer.@ Spartacus... Not a sissy Fit just stating an opinion. Gonna go and have a beer and laugh at how serious you are about this stuff. Pull open the curtains and have a look outside. There's a life out there. Why not go and join in. Cheers!!!!
WindoodJune 01, 2012
It's not dangerous at all really, no one ever pleases the fanboys, because they can't. Best to just start again, and i think thats what this film does. I only liked alien, can't watch any of the others as they're beyond ridiculous (to me). This showed real imagination i thought, and lots more Giger than i ever thought we'd see (pretty much everything that looked like his ideas gave me the creeps haha)
WindoodJune 01, 2012
@DirtyJack,
excuse me, but you're the one having a little moan about a film you don't like. I dislike most of the movies I've seen. Very few i want to watch again. But i don't think I've ever joined a forum to moan about them, I do as you say, get a life.
Good advice don't you think?
RobdemancJune 01, 2012
I am glad people are saying it is a bad film because when I see it I will not expect much and will be pleasently surprised.

SaintsSinphonyJune 01, 2012
spartacus
I agree with you (again) on the whole negative thing.
I don't want to censor anyone and if you have something you don't like about the movie you wish to speak about then you are more than welcome to say it but maybe people should think before hand and say it in a thread that isn't praising Prometheus. Why say you hate the movie in a thread that is about liking the movie. There are a few threads saying that it wasn't a good film some have said they hate it. Say what you want there.
Criticism is going to be there sure but I don't go to forums on websites that are dedicated to stuff I don't like and go say something negative just for the hell of it.
raoringpasta I'm sorry to go off topic but I've seen this type of thing so many times in the past few days, I'm glad you seemed to enjoy the movie . I was thinking of taking my son who is 12, do you think it would be too much for him? I make him cover his eyes on nude stuff and really violent parts but he watches alien and aliens and loves them
brightonrockJune 01, 2012
@unlimited power, @rubinis
I'm not talking 'bullshit.' I was saying that a lot of people were let down because it wasn't an alien prequel, but they're misguided in their criticism, because it wasn't meant to be.
Hating on something for not being what you wanted is no criticism of anything etc etc
But were there issues? Yes. I agree there are MASSIVE issues. And I even say this right after my initial point.
