-----------------------------------------------------------------Just got back from seeing it and really enjoyed it, it was entertaining, beautiful to look at, and I can't wait to see the next one.
I saw it with my 18 year old daughter who has no interest in the Alien films and she said she enjoyed it. If you want something like Alien or Aliens then watch Alien or Aliens. A lot of people do not like the Alien franchise so by going a different route with this I think Ridley will open up the Alien franchise to a bigger audience. It is far more interesting than the star wars prequels which I felt shrunk the Star Wars universe, this one expands the Alien Universe and opens it up to new possibilities.

I'd agree - I think many people have built up this film WAY TOO MUCH in their own minds and that is clearly setting yourself up for disappointment...

@roaringpantsa - thanks for that information. It seems that alot of people are expecting some kind of Alien movie and when they do not get it they trash this movie. I am now looking forward to seeing it Friday ay 12:01.

I agree, this film is everything and more. Waited years for this to hit home.
I loved it. Well done Ridley

This is more like it! It's nice to see people pointing out the positive aspects of this movie!

" I think many people have built up this film WAY TOO MUCH in their own minds and that is clearly setting yourself up for disappointment..."
I couldn't have put it any better

I agree: the hype has been incredible. And, unfortunately, forums like this (as wonderful as they are for community spirit) stoke the fires of peoples imaginations way too much.
However I really feel there are genuine gripes to be had. It's certainly not as bad as some detractors have made out, but i feel that too many people are letting their emotions control them: they thought it was gonna be 'sublime', it was in fact 'good', they feel let-down, they lash out.
I am happy however films with this level of ideology and theme are being made in 2012, and await the sequel.

Bullshit. Bad storytelling is bad storytelling.

the last 2 buy guys with 47 and 2 posts respectively !!! that right there to ME says it all. Agenda, came here to Bash ! Get a Life, you aren't fooling anyone who's lasted here any longer than that. Ya ever hear the expression "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?", I'd say that applies here in it's entirety in a thread in time like this one is right now!

It's hard to build up something when you are already told all of the major plot points from the promotional trailers and snippets. It's sad when a movie doesn't provide you MORE than what you already were given in the trailers, at least in regards to the story.
Truth.

"if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?"
LOL, that's why it's called criticism. People need thicker skin if they can't deal with negative opinions because using this expression is just tired and immature.
I went through 6-years of Architecture School and if I didn't get honest subjective & objective criticism, and instead got treated nicely all of the time, my work would have never matured and grown.
Life doesn't exist without death. Light can't exist without darkness.

I couldn't disagree more, You got 1 hour and 5 however minutes of it, the rest of us have seen what...a grand total of maybe 4-5 minutes so far?

utter horseshit, its a scifi film. Not Citizen Kane. having said that I can't think of anything in the scifi genre that is exciting AND intelligent, not sure there ever has been, this is both. It exceeded my expectations, guess I had mine set just right. Can't wait for a sequel now, hope blade runner gets put on ice for a bit.

@Spartacus
I don't remember the thread where this convo took place already, but we went through the plot and argued about what the movie revealed that was SIGNIFICANT that the trailers didn't show. I think the result was nothing but perhaps the ending with Shaw.
I'm willing to do it again... I mean... there have been 24-26 videos posted about this movie... trailers, tv spots, featurettes. Everything important was revealed if you watched them, even in JUST the trailers/tv spots.

@DSJOHNSON84
No need man I believe ya. It's cool, everyone takes away exactly whatever they needed at the moment from everything they see IMO!
and that means I am still waiting for my turn and mine.
and in 6 1/2 more days that happens and I could NOT BE MORE PLEASED RIGHT NOW ABOUT IT THAN I AM !!!
June 01, 2012
it also helps that it is almost Friday Night and I have a head start on most of you I think as I got home at Noon from my over nite shift.

@roaringpantsa:
Judging by the age of your daughter we're almost the same age. In my days I've watched quite a few movies. And I was surprised to see one of my top 10 movies playing in Prometheus.
I found Prometheus a over-simplified, incoherent piece, not worthy of seeing again, but I promised my 22-year old daughter to watch it with her friend.
I'll be happy to post their reaction as well.

@ Spartucus
...oh sorry...i thought you got to see it last night...lol...I am only getting to see it after the 8th as well....I still cannot wait......i am counting mostly positive responses.....
What ridley is trying to do with Prometheus is add the same type of enigmatic feel we experienced in the original.....but at the same time also create a new franchise....it's dangerous and difficult.....considering how fanboys are likely to react....it was inevitable that this movie was gonna divide and polarize the fans!....
