Giant Plot Holes (spoilers inside)

1)The Engineers created us, and then sporadically appeared throughout human history telling us of their location, which the ancient humans drew in the form of cave paintings. Why,oh why, would you give the location LV223 i.e. your military base/ weapons lab ? It doesn't make any sense. It's like the government decided to put their missile making facilities on Google Map.
2)Meredith Vickers whom we see as a fitness queen doing push-ups at the beginning of the movie, somehow cannot outrun a crashing ship while Elizabeth Shaw who was in labour, just had a caesarian, and had given herself multiple shots of tranquilizers/ anesthetics somehow could !!!
3) How did the Engineer know where to find Shaw at the end of the movie? There is obviously another ship on the planet, so why not just go there and take off again?

Totally agree.
plus, what is happening to Holloway? and why? Yes I get he's being mutated but why not explore this concept before setting him on fire?
Why does Fifield turn out like he does?
What is the worm thing doing inside their bodies and why?
Why does the squid baby just keep growing and growing and growing and growing?
Is Vickers a droid or really just Weylands Daughter?
Jesus Christ you can tell someone who was writing Lost was involved what a mess!
Ripleys-KnickersJune 01, 2012
Worst dialogue in the movie "my puppies" followed by "HOWL!" CHEESE ON TOAST!
EpicSpaceJune 01, 2012
I think they gave the coordinates of the military base to use humans to test their weapons. Just my opinion though.
Ripleys-KnickersJune 01, 2012
It was uncut... now we know why. I think they ran out of money. Could not finish the movie. saved what they could, with holes in the plot. that is why it is uncut, no footage of a whole movie, never mind anything to cut. That is the reason all that cheese is there. forget a Prometheus 2, I doubt there will be one.

There is more irritating things like the moment with the flute. In the cinema I almost said in a loud voice WHAT A FUCK. Am i watching Bilbo Baggins?

The High PriestJune 01, 2012
HA HA HA!! You just reminded me..The flute - The fucking Flute!! What the Fuck is that shit all about......Is Lindeloff taking the piss out of us all????

Merc7June 01, 2012
Check out my latest thread were I also try to understand several plot holes. Maybe we can help each other out and try to untangle this mess written by Douchemon Laughelof.

Flute?
Squishy buttons?
I have a week left before I can see a movie I've been waiting 33 years for called "Prometheus" by the great and masterful Ridley Scott... what movie are you guys talking about?

thefaceheadJune 01, 2012
Oh db as Obi Wan said to Padama or panda bear or what ever the hell her name was, 'I'm so sorry'.
they are only very very minor things and very much the least of your worries lol

dbJune 01, 2012
Great... the least of them, huh.
Hey, Cheer up. I just checked out the High Priest's Review it's awesome but you've got to see Brett's pic. from the premiere and the SFX to go with it. We're playing the "caption his pic." game... you'll love it!

@db - I won't spoil it by saying what the 'flute' refers to. Just know this: it really IS a flute.
To be honest the press ups and engineer chasing Shaw bothered me much less than the fact that they didn't answer a single question they raised. As an audience member we're left totally in the dark about the motivations for ANYONE involved in this film (engineers included).
I'm sure Lindeloff would say 'ah! But THAT is what we're gonna explore in Prometheus 2!'. But this is the guy that wrote Lost which was clearly made up as they went along: from beginning to end. My theory is they have NO idea as to why anything happened, and they're probably just hoping they can make something up by the time it comes to shoot Prometheus 2.
Left the audience in a state of confusion, not tension.

1) Its the same question that Shaw ask to herself ..we simply dont know ..but that dont make of it automatically a plothole
2)because Shaw is smarter and roll on a side ...
3) well if you take off and they destroy you its normal to eliminate who have made you crash before starting again right ? Even because the Engineer dont know the forces of humans on the planet ....ITs like you exit your home and someone shoot you in the back ..you manage to return to your home but before getting out again you look for the shooter .

This movie was going to explain the alien gunner from the first movie. But the Engineer died, suitless, in the lifeboat. So who was in the gunner seat, and what came out of him? And what melted though the floor in the first movie? The alien was an adolescent queen, so fair enough, but there must have been another Engineer, who was captured, impregnated, had some kind of fight, sat in the gunner seat and burst. But where did that worker go?
This is only 70 years later and yet Dallas describes the gunner as "fossilised".
The planetoid is described as "deep cold, well below the line" and yet they can take their helmets off in the pyramid and not wear gloves?
The Engineers need a breathable atmosphere like ours, being no more than giant humans, but the engineer comes out of the crashed ship and runs over to the shuttle without his suit?

@rorshach
man, Lindeloff was just making this shit up on the fly - Its so full of holes its scary...
Its known as G S L
(George Lucas Syndrome)

CustodianJune 03, 2012
db,
yes, there's a flute, but don't think of YEEEEEEES from Little Britain, the Scottish country home. LOL.
and re: fossilised, remember that the head in the (elephant) helmet was decap'd for 2,000 years yet was still animatable. LOL.

One of my issues is... 2000 years is a long time for this big daddy species to lose contact with one of the weapon bases. So are we to assume that the 'engineers' have died out all over? And if this was occuring on all of their worlds, how come, if you go by the story events in alien 4, in almost 300 years people haven't encountered the xenos anywhere else? Also, does anyone else think that Fifield's character came back JUST to kill off loads of characters? The ship had a crew of 17, and they couldn't find enough time/space to kill them all off.

1) This is a good question, why even come back at all. Of course, we may not know why the ancient wrote this symbol, and they all may have been copying of the first, which was passed onto the others. So they only could have come once. And the planet may not have always been a military base. Or maybe it was setup as a trap for the humans, come here and die.
2) This is silly, it all depends on how the ship is falling. It clearly hit Elizabeth first, she had unluckily chosen the wrong place to run.
3) Is there another ship on the planet? There may have been another ship it the atmosphere, that the robot had to call down, just as in ALIENS.
BluemaruJune 06, 2012
Wow I was asking the exact same questions when I watch the movie like 10 mins ago and had to see if others were thinking the same thing. Sure enough they did!
What I would like answered is
The ship(Prometheus) was a exploration one yet the crew had access to weapons (flamethrowers, shotgun and pistols) so obviously they prepared for possible fire fight. So wouldn't it make sense to equip the ship with weapons as well???
Given all that sophistication of a space faring ship yet it fails to be able to autopilot itself onto the alien ship. (the ship somehow manage instead to be able to autopilot across the vastness of space to get to the "moon" in the first place)
Lastly WHY the !@#$ did no one question "David" when he started to mess with all that alien hardware. I mean I would be like WTF David what are you trying to do. Instead everyone was all chill like good job David you manage to show us a nice hologram of aliens and open a giant door to a big ass room when we don't even know what could be on the other side.
whatisthematrixJune 08, 2012
This movie was written by the same person who wrote "Lost"
A word to me, has never had so much meaning. When i heard he was writing the script i nearly killed myself.
The movie looked great visually - but what the f**k.
