MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 3:23 PMJust got back from a matinee showing and thought the film lived up to my expectations. I am glad it wasn't a direct prequel to Alien, that would have been dull. I had been following all the news on this site for months and I actually enjoyed finding out as the movie went along which of the plot leaks/interpretations were true. It seems like I did know the story before I went in and still enjoyed it all the same. If you have seen all the tv spots and trailers then you have seen all the gore. I've been at my daughters caesarean birth and apart from the obvious differences a real c section is far gorier than what was on show here. I didn't find it disturbing at all, very medical to be honest and what came out can only be described as a Scottish haggis/bagpipe hybrid which wasn't frightening at all. I wanted to see holloway change more rather than just a few black veins appear on his face. The story is good enough not to need everything explaining I large detail. There are plenty of good ideas on display without everything being explained in full. It needed more gore and longer action sequences. The best make up,sequence is the engineer disintegrating at the very beginning. His body suit is awesome. I wonder if is is shaws character piloting the other ship at the end that has the whole in her chest at the beginning of alien? What is the funniest thing about the whole movie is that the twisted imagination of Giger in the late 70's enabled him to design a throwaway space jockey that never needed explaining in the original alien and was never explained. RS has devised an entire movie around a concept that never had or intended to have a back story. That's prometheus's only failing really, the fact that a story was made around a purely visual design that was only a small part of the original movie. 9/10
