This movie gets a 3/5 at the very most, and a 1/5 is not unfair
So many plotholes I can't even list them all. There are at least 3 massive plotholes that are stupid and make no sense
The good points are the CGI (some of the best I have ever seen), production design, cinematography and errr...thats it
The music is awful, and does not fit in the slightest, even ruins certain scenes.
Noomi was ok, nothing to write home about. Way overhyped
Fassbender was too good for this circus, he carries a lot of this film
And the stupid scientist that keeps touching the snake..not once..not twice, but three bloody times before it attacks, there isnt a facepalm image big enough

I don't have the time for analytical full review now but i will say that they could of got away with a pg 13 i think the r rating will give some some viewers an inflated expectation .
On the whole i thought it was great in places and poor in others not a masterpiece / classic by any stretch, but an entertaining sc fi film with some moments of dazzlement, and some moments of disappointment, and the dialogue was in places poor and some scenes hurried and lacked emotional weight in their execution .Then again there were moments visually speaking that were awe inspiring, a real mixed bag of pros, and cons, reminded me of the consensus of blade runner first time round when that was released and the love it, hate it, opinions that produced at the time. Maybe time and repeat viewings will bear its place in film history.
I for one am hoping there will indeed be a longer better cut to come on blue ray or am i just wishful thinking my score 7/10.

Bioshock - I've seen it twice - Jingles , is it possible that you've been so annoyed by the elements you didn't like whilst watching you've missed some of the positive elements?
June 01, 2012
These "plot-holes" that you speak of. There's no such thing. And you can't penalize this movie for "plot-holes". You know why? Because this is the introduction to something big.
Plot-holes. My BUTT.

looks like we are going to have a lot of u fanboys defending a bad movie
let me summarise plotholes:
How did the Shaw know the engineer was going to destroy earth? he was just taking off...how did she jump to that conclusion? she must be a telepath
Ejectable medical bay? oh gotcha, so cuddles can make an appearance again...what a natural progression
Medical Bed only configured for male despite being in Vickers chambers
Stupid scientist that touches snake 3 times, 1 time it hisses, 2 times it hisses aggressively....what does the moron do? yup...touch again
Fifield is there to study rocks...seems to have no interest in them
The whole Janek/Shaw convo...pointless
The movie ends with Shaw piloting a derelict with an android head...yup thats beliavable
The proto alien looks like a fucking Tim Burton clay model

Woah, woah, woah. I'm not. I'm just giving a realistic response to all the folks that say it's filled with "plot-holes".
Hell, i haven't even seen it yet. But i'll accept things that are only presented as questions, because the movie is the first in a new series.
Your post came before mine by mere seconds: Fanboy? Me? Hell no. I hate fanboys, and everything the movie stands for.
Once i've seen it, i'll break it down, in the most brutally honest way. But am i going to criticize the movie for it's questions? Given the fact that it's a more densely layered universe, and thought-out movie than Alien?
No.
People only asked ONE question in regards to Alien, and we all know what it is...
Fanboys are the ones giving the movie a low score, and 9/10 of them compare the film to Alien. Which is laughable.

Were you paying attention - the star map showed the destination for the WMD payload.
The medical bay was always in the escape pod - the escape pod was Weylands quarters. WHere else would it go other than in the MAIN place in the ship - Weyland and his daughters private life vessel.
The configuration could be changed by David - he was expecing to send Shaw home to examine there. I presumed it was for Weylan. Weyland is a MAN,.
The scientist may have been a biology genuis, but an idiot. Most highly intelligent people have little common sense or street smarts. And he was certainly mesmerised by it as a biologist would be - curiosity killed the cat. No real surprise there, is there?
Fifield is socially awkward. Of course he is, he study's rocks.
The Janek Shaw convo point was about the danger of the craft and where it was headed and the likely outcome and what he was willing to do. Pointed.
It's sci-fi - how is the androids ability to understand the flying of the craft any different to any ther unbeleiveable element in any sci-fi movie???
It's a fucking proto-Alien with squid like elements covered in goo.
June 01, 2012
There are plot-holes but not as many as you said. Did you pay attention?
- David tells her it's going to Earth
- The med-pod is configured for a man because of Weyland- the key reason the pod is there at all, obv
But yep, Milburn petting Cobralien is ridiculous though. The other issue is that they get lost in the first place- that's insane. How many PHDs/ degrees between them and they can't find their way home?!

I was slightly dissapointed, well worth a watch, and I do want to know more but, David as the talking head ruined it for me. It was comedy.
The space jockey was massive, build like the ultimate warrior dipped in emulsion and kicked the shit out of the humans in seconds, he should have picked them off one by one, we should have seen more of him.
When he died, I was gutted. ...
100% agreed on the hissing super strong space cobra - you run a mile if you saw that thing, then you'd catch you're breath and run another mile. He went to stroke it and it broke his arm, then destroyed him. (deserved)
June 01, 2012
@melkor David says no such thing, nor does she see the star map as she runs away early...bad writing
David says to Shaw a space jockey is approaching the ejected Med-lab...again how? how does he know being a head on the floor?
Why does the space jockey want to kill Shaw so bad? kinda trivial no? u could think of an excuse, but its just not beliavable
The dialogue was piss poor
June 01, 2012
oh another good one..How does Shaw know her baby will attack the engineer? "just die" How does she know it can move at all? or that it will attack? so fucking far fetched
June 01, 2012
i have not seen the movie yet and dont want to get into this but just wanted to say, if you are a big enough fan of "alien" to join an entire website devoted to waiting for "Prometheus" then you are just as big of a "fan boy" as anyone else on here, so i don't want to see that kind of stuff on this site ok? besides we "fan boys" would not defend something just because its alien, most of us HATE resurrection, and a good amount dislike alien 3 so i don't see why someone would defend it just because they are a fan of the series, like really? if anything fan boys would hate on it more then it deserves. if it was really THAT bad, then it would have the same reaction as the star wars prequels, and it did not so i see a flaw in that logic. also, what plot holes? i did not see the movie yet, so i am just wondering.
June 01, 2012
David will have seen the Engineer go after her at the least - he could also understand the language (somehow - then again he's a super computer). Did he hear something from the Engineer? Who knows?
There was sill another craft to fly into the other ship or ships. When you have a fly buzzing around the house, even though you haven't been attacked you'll often swat it. It's just an irritant.
Guess Shaw was an irritant or even a threat.
Some of the dialogue was hammy, some of it was awkward, yes.
June 01, 2012
She saw it moving and was trying to get out of the door.
If you find that a movie is intolerably far fetched over that then you will have to stop watching movies. Almost every movie is far-fetched, even those based on real lives!!
June 01, 2012
@karlo...oh no...dont play that line on me..there is a difference between fantasy and shitty logic
this is the latter..the story needs to make sense in it's own internal way...this is a boring story, confused and boring
better than Alien 3 by a small margin...on par with Ressurection...somewhere around that area
June 01, 2012
OK, that's fine. I thought the movie was about David - the whole story resonated around his 'feelings' (that he doesn't have) observing his own Engineers barbaric behaviour and this was echoed by the Engineer of his Engineers. I think there's a good story running throughout that the films window dressing is hung upon.
How you could say it's a boring story is as incomprehensible to me as the plot was to you.
The execution of the film wasn't perfect, sure - but it wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination.
My imagination could have been more stretched too.
But really, what films don#t pull on these kinds of plot devices and missing links?
Pretty much all of them do. The fact is I can give an answer for all of your 'issues'. I may be wrong, but at least it shows that there was a logic of some sort, even though it defied your own.
June 01, 2012
I think the people that are butthurt from this movie dont comprehend what actually happened in the movie. The only negative comments I have read are from this board.
You claim there are plotholes but give no examples or discussion on it...perhaps you didn't understand it. Sometimes watching a movie again makes sense the second time around.
June 01, 2012
I though it was on par with Aliens for entertainment, better than 3 and Resurrection.
Not as good as ....
AVP,
