MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:33 AMFirstly I would like to say I did enjoy the film. I don't think it was as good as it could have been, I think there were scenes that ruined the film and tbh I was hoping for something so epic that I would be on the edge of my seat the whole time. That said I did enjoy it and also think it would have been just as good if it was not set in the Alien universe.
Now, I know that the ties to Alien are meant to be loose, but I was really sad when I realised that the ship they were on was not the same ship that we see in Alien and Aliens.
Two things saying it is the same ship as in Alien:
Think about how they find it in Alien, they hone in on a repeating signal which turns out to be a warning, and what happens at the end of Prometheus? She sets a repeating message warning others to stay away.
Also the primitive Alien we see right at the end has some kind of egg sac on his body, suggesting he runs back to the bone ship and lays a load of eggs in the cargo hold.
But at the same time there are things saying it's not the same ship as in Alien, like the moon name, it is LV-223 not LV-426, this broke my heart, although I noticed the moon was orbiting the same gas gaint as LV-426 so that planet might be right around the corner?
The "Space Jockey" (as I shall forever call them) gets out of his chair and dies in the human ship, so his body cannot be fossilised in the chair like we see in Alien.
So yeah, the story goes both ways. Even so, I did like the film but as a life long hardcore Aliens fan I would have liked the tie ins to be clearer / stronger.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:16 AMTotally agree prometheus preyed on the need for the questions set in alien to be answered and answers nothing if you'd seen alien and the Prometheus trailer it comes across that these would finally be answered but they're not
So much potential in the end we get a re hash of avp set in space without aliens or predators I'm devastated

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:42 AMHere's something to think about: there were many temples on the moon. Shaw left with another ship, maybe that one has a frozen Engineer too and who knows what in the cargo hold.

MemberDeaconJun-02-2012 6:57 AMThe links are there if you can read into them and between the lines.....
SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO NOT SEEN MOVIE DONT READ......

1) We see the Murals, they dont explain a lot but show that they are a reference to some Xeno is Organism, the other shows some creature that has a limited link to Xeno/Space Jockey Suit look as if it came from the Engineer touching it.
This for me links that there is a connection between either something the worshiped and tried to replicate, or something that they had created as experiments.
2) The Ghost Engineers apear to had been running away from something, one falls over and had his head cut off by the door but we also see what apear to be bodies of more than 4-5 pilled up....
Something got lose and chased them down and killed them, we know the Engineers create life, modify it and basically their stuff can create some nasty stuff.... see latter point.....
3) We see the other sarcophagus with holes near the chest as though something must have broken out, or in..... this links to point 4... and thus maybe something simular by simular process caused these chest area holes in the sarcophagus and then also chased away the Engineers or caused them to flee from point 2.
4) We see that the last Engineer gets a Chest Burst and Xeno ish Organism, its head is simular but Body is not, we can thus see that a simular process could have created the Xeno and also what ever caused the holes in the sarcophagus in point 3 and caused the Engineers to do a runner in point 2.
5) Shaws Cuddles becomes one massive Proto Face Hugger, does that make the Xeno ish thing that comes from the Engineer it implanted in point 4 the Proto Xeno....... then again what with the Murals and holes in sarcophagus, something simular must had been created before.
6) David and Shaw get to another Derelict (not shown them getting in which is a disapointment) How does David who has his body and head seperated fly the Derelict if his body is not complete..? The Engineer had to suit up and sit in the chair to pilot it.... one must assume that either Shaw or David get into the seat and does that mean they suited up and got into a Space Jockey Suit some how?
If so maybe they head for the homeworld... but dont make it ;)
7) There is from above more than one Derelict, David said they have more ships.... not another ship.... So the Engineers running away could been trying to get to the other Derelicts in a attempt to escape the plannet.
Quite where this leads is unknown, the events that killed off the Engineers apears to be 2000 years ago, maybe the events that happen on LV 426 are about the same time we just dont know.
All we can assume from what we have is...
1) LV 223 is some kind of research post or test station.
2) It has more than one temple and more than one Derelict.
3) The contents of the Urns can lead to the creation through a series of events a Organism that is reminiscent of the Xeno and Face Hugger, only one that grows at faster rate.
One has to wonder how fast Cuddles grew, compared to just after birth, then how fast and what size could the Xeno ish creature grow?
4) What ever is in those Urns, or creations that can be created from them can and seem was indended to wipe out life on other worlds so they can then reseed with different life. And Earth was a destination for such Teraforming about 2000 years ago but the mission could not be completed due to a outbreak of somekind.
5) This LV 223 is not the Engineers homeworld, thus more of these test facilities may exist in other parts of the Galaxy, and that if they have a home world there are more than a handfull of them and more than a few Derelict ships...

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:18 PMI was sad about the planet too. In fact I watched the movie thinking it was the same Alien/Aliens ship, so was disappointed to find out afterwards that it wasn't - when the proto-xeno burst out the enineer's chest in the Prometheus and not the space jockey seat.
Hoping the reason it wasn't is because of his ideas for a sequel. Otherwise it was a missed opportunity.
Great film all the same though.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:23 PMGreat summary BigDave.
I've been looking on the web all June 2nd to find some decent discussion after seeing the film, and finally found this site and ur synopsis/hypothesis. Thanks

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 1:48 PMOk guys.
In Alien, the Space Jockey is fossilized according to Dallas. Meaning it's been there for quite a while right? If that is the case, the event on LV426 predated Prometheus's time. This would also mean that Alien speices we all know & love also predates Prometheus. 'Protoxeno' isn't 'Proto' at all but an all new spieces.
What do you think?
