I don't think it was as good as it could have been, I think there were scenes that ruined the film and tbh I was hoping for something so epic that I would be on the edge of my seat the whole time. That said I did enjoy it and also think it would have been just as good if it was not set in the Alien universe.
Now, I know that the ties to Alien are meant to be loose, but I was really sad when I realised that the ship they were on was not the same ship that we see in Alien and Aliens.
Two things saying it is the same ship as in Alien:
Think about how they find it in Alien, they hone in on a repeating signal which turns out to be a warning, and what happens at the end of Prometheus? She sets a repeating message warning others to stay away.
Also the primitive Alien we see right at the end has some kind of egg sac on his body, suggesting he runs back to the bone ship and lays a load of eggs in the cargo hold.
But at the same time there are things saying it's not the same ship as in Alien, like the moon name, it is LV-223 not LV-426, this broke my heart, although I noticed the moon was orbiting the same gas gaint as LV-426 so that planet might be right around the corner?
The "Space Jockey" (as I shall forever call them) gets out of his chair and dies in the human ship, so his body cannot be fossilised in the chair like we see in Alien.
So yeah, the story goes both ways. Even so, I did like the film but as a life long hardcore Aliens fan I would have liked the tie ins to be clearer / stronger.
