MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:42 AMWhat the hell is wrong with you guys??? Seen Prometheus last night and it was simply stunning! One of the best sci-fi films of all time, easily a classic! All this crap about plot holes, why do we need everything spoon fed to us? Isn't it great to have that in depth discussion about a film and in parts come to our own conclusion? After all, don't we do that naturally? It's clear that it is set up for a sequal but why is that a bad thing? What about such films like lord of the rings and Harry potter that carry on the story???
Also, stop thinking this is a direct prequel to Alien, it's not but Ridley obviously gave us some references to it to keep us happy! Imagine if there was nothing there? You'd all go crazy!!! I think the sequal or one after that, may start to get more and more like Alien but we have to tell the story first!!!
Geez guys, give it a chance!!!!!

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:35 AMLeft me a bittersweet aftertaste, specially the finale. RScott seems to go quite far in getting everything ready for Alien in the sense of what we all thought to be the Alien Space Jockey in pilot position when all of a sudden he reappears for the final combat scene... was I the only one bugged by this one? I do agree that it could be easily fixed on a sequel but still feel that if that sequel gets hammered, there will be a "Director's Cut" alternate finale with the SJ where he is supposed to be in Alien.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:29 AMI think its going to be a trilogy with part 2 concentrating on Shaw and Dave finding out why we were created and why we must be destroyed probably something to do with man being too destructive and part 3 i think will be more about the Xenos culminating in the Xeno that weve all come to love.
too many people are putting the film down as they dont understand what its about ,its evolution of the species, both human and alien and when the story is finished it will be epic.Just because scott made it people have assumed its going to be blood and guts Xenos and walked away disappointed some even compared it to AVP, errrr how?

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:48 AMI saw it last night and I completely agree. I thought it was absolutely stunning.
I think the less people try to link it to Alien, the better they will enjoy it. I think people are getting stuck in the 'it doesn't link well because of X' or 'they haven't explained Y' - as a stand alone film, one of my all time favourites.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:54 AMAbsolutely! I loved the references to the series but let's just let this film grow and see if the next one or one after that starts to tie in closer to the story! Like I said, the story had to start somewhere! How stunning were the engineers?

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:55 AMDmoffat / derelict - I'm with you (see review I just posted). Saw it yesterday and slept on it before writing. I needed to get past the sadness of actually having seen it after so many months of fun in speculating and discussing! (yeah I know, weird huh?).
Loved it. Will love it more on repeat viewing.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:00 AMIm willing to agree that the sets and the design was amazing :D
It is not supposed to explain everything thing, but just to explain some. it gave us some new questions, but every good sci-fi movie doesn't need to explain everything.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:07 AMI saw it last night, and I was amazed too! I hate how Ridley has been saying for ages it ISN'T going to be a dirct prequel, and people are STILL complaining that it isn't! Dumb people make dumb complaints. People these days don't want to be inspired into intelligeint conversation and debate. They want explosions and boobs, or they're fan-boys of AvP and post-Aliens fiction and games (which a lot of now have been blown out of all canonicity, thank god) who wanted just another Aliens clone.
Thankfully, Ridley Scott stuck to his guns. Everything in this film inspired amazement (and sometimes genuine revulsion) in me. I love how Ridley has turned the franchise back into H.R. Giger's playground, and not Hollywood's B-Movie monster show. Yes, there were some very clever, some very subtle nods to the original, but wouldn't you expect that from a film that isn't an Alien prequel, but takes place in the same universe (though at one point, I think you all know when, I nearly let out a little squee lol)
Five stars of pure entertainment!

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:14 AMDmoffat - I agree, I thought the Engineers looked superb - I may even use the word beautiful. I think that they were extremely well thought out, as when you think about it they created us and it would of been extremely hard for us to of 'related' to giant elephantine beings that don't resemble us whatsoever.
I think they looked bad-ass, to be honest.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:04 AMI havent listened to a single word RS has said about prometheus i have never felt the need to relentlessly research a movie I watched the trailer saw the weyland logo on the side of prometheus saw the jockeys chair rise from the deck and came to my own conclussions about the movie which are
a visually stunning below par sci fi movie wrapped in alien wrapping paper to get the audience through the door
are you saying because i dont hang on every word a director leaks into circulation i have no right to be dissapointed with this movie?
whatever happend to liking a trailer and going to see the movie off the back of it
if this was a stand alone film why the need to link it to the alien universe at all?
since watching the film i have watched an interview with ridley scott on sky movies in the uk where he quite clearly states he wanted to go back and tell the story of the space jockey character as depicted in alien to answer some of the questions it posed has prometheus done that no it is based on finding a similar character of the same species again false advertising
i am glad that you enjoyed the movie i really am but im afraid i cant bring myself to class it as a good movie at all stand alone or alien prequel my only hope is that the inevitable sequel repairs the damage done by ridley on this one

For some yes....
For me nope.....
My problem is not that part i think the links was good enough, not exactly what some may add, but enough to cast some links.
My problem is the movie seemed to flow and build up very well, untill after the Holloway and Shaw love scene....
Its after this as though the movie plot had another 2 hours left in it that had to be crammed into 75 mins, after that scene the rest was all too rushed they tried to fit too much in and left a lot unexplained...
SPOILERS SPOILERS

1) The Cobrahugger/Hammerpedes.... we see two of them, one attacks gets head pulled off spays Fifield who then falls into Black Goo, while Milburn gets the rest of the creature down his throat.....
He dies, the crew find him latter and something bursts out of his mouth but misses anywone....
They never ask what was that, what caused this, what happened nothing, we know or learn nothing of the cycle of said Organism it simply buggers off never to be seen.
2) The only part of that is the infection that the Black Substance has on people, it mutates Fifield to a certain but limited degree...
The crew dont seem very interested where he got to, concerned very much for the crap that went down and killed Milburn nothing....
Fifield gets back to the ship and then throws a few people about, he smashed ones head in, sticks a axe or something in another... this scene was rushed and not much added to the action or details... they then toast him.
And like Hollloways toasted body, they do not mention what went down, they do not show what they do to the bodies.
So much stuff happens infront of their eyes (not shown in detail) but they know what went on with Holloway, Milburn and Fifield and care not to mention it..... yet from nothing at all they know a lot about what this place was and what the Engineers wanted to do with Earth etc...

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 9:55 AMI could actually see this as a new trilogy, with the later films having little if not no links directly to alien....:D Id like that!

Kind of agree with you. I would have stayed four to six hours watching the movie with all its spin offs. And then some more.
Its only that I guess that the Studios feel a bit wary of releasing six hour movies these days.
Maybe a blasphemy for some people in this forum but Ridley Scott is a damn good Director but certainly a sub par Editor/Mounter. Had Lucas edited this film it would have been the coolest thing since bread came sliced.
