I have just seen the movie today and thought it was great overall - I initially had a mixed view but afterwards was left thinking a lot (and I love a movie that makes you think). Firstly I wondered why this was called Prometheus (I know the ship is called Prometheus) but also the Ted talk Peter Weyland refers to Prometheus too... Do you think that the Engineer at the beginning of the movie was like Prometheus giving Earth the "fire" i.e. Life? and that the ship on LV233 was preparing to "fix" or "clearup" what the first Engineer did (i.e. creating us all)? Also, I know that a few people including Ridley Scott have said that this was set on a sister planet - but I came away thinking that it really could have linked with Alien. Some of the crew were still alive and managed to walk back to the ship after being infected, so what could stop the engineer after the end of the movie trying to get himself back to his ship to try to take off? - and also the Alien at the end of the movie does look a bit like a queen - could it have gone back to the ship to make a nest of eggs? - I think it could have all tied up. I liked the giant squid/facehugger - thought that was a great way to get the Engineer finished. Also - what do you think would happen in a sequal if there was one? - I think the Engineers race is really aggressive - if they did go back to the planet what would they find? - would it fun in the same timeline as AVP too? I remember at the end of one of the movies Yutani getting a Predator weapon and the person saying "it's not for this planet is it Ms. Yutani"? Some good ideas in this movie. I still want to know what the Alien mural was there for - and also the artwork that changed in the temple. - Lots to think about.

I don't think that this film has a direct link to the first Alien film, i think there is a lot more that happens before the derelict even gets to lv426. In alien they say that the derelict has been on lv426 for like 2000 years so immediately Prometheus is way off the pace.....also that would make sense as the Proto Alien in prometheus i think is the first stage of the xenon's evolution and just like humans, will take a while to evolve. And lets make one thing clear......AVP has nothing to do with Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Resurrection or Prometheus.....Ridley even says he was disgusted at those movies.....they were just rip offs to please fans and had nothing to do with Alien canon so prometheus is no way going to even reference it. I think people need to stop cross referencing this film with alien as it maybe in the same universe but is miles away from Alien in understanding the Xeno......i think Ridley just wanted to tell a really good sic fi movie using the jockeys and maybe, just maybe Ridley will link the xeno's into the sequel to Prometheus. Ps....the artwork changes because they opened the door and changed the atmosphere in the room which decayed the artwork on the walls and the alien mural is there almost like out cave paintings depict out technological history, the SJ's technology just happens to be organic weapons in the shaw of the xeno's.

It's definitely not a direct prequel. It takes the franchise off on a whole other tangent. One with way more possibilities.

That makes sense. I wasn't keen on the AVP movies either - so glad they won't be referenced by Ridley at least. I've just read a few other posts by the producers mentioning that if this does well there may be a sequal too - that would be great. I liked the direction the franchise is going - it had a much more organic and dramatic feel to it - it made me think a lot too.

I wonder if there will ever be another sequal in the Alien franchise though too?

I think there will be at some point but it won't be ridley.......i always wanted them to get to earth but that would take a massive budget and would probably have to be a PG13 to get the audiences which i believe is what is wrong with cinema these days......studios are all about raking in money and not quality!! Id love to see another alien film, but one that doesn't sacrifice anything, it would have to be r rated and different.....very different. I just think it would be hard to top alien or aliens in anyway. I reckon they'll reboot rather than make a sequel.

I would have liked to have seen an alien sequal where they went back to the Xeno homeworld - I read some of the graphic novels once and i'm sure there was a story where Ripley went back too - I know in the novels there was the Earth war stories too - but back to the Alien homeworld would have been on my wish list.

Its funny, because i have read the Alien graphic novels too and funny enough, the alien Hives in the graphic novels look very much like the temples in prometheus......Coincidence?

Sorry for my english, but i hope its enought to expain my idea. I found also connections between movie and The legend of Prometheus. Dont you think Engineers looks so much similar to Ancien Greek sculptures? Tall, good shaped, pale skill, even transparent... Legend tell us that Prometheus stole fire from Gods and gave it to mortals-us! (That was reason why Prometheus came there- to know more, to know secrets of imortally.) Later Zeus punished him by having him bound to a rock while a eagle ate his liver every day. (Eagles=Aliens?) Probably Gods didnt want us to became immortal, they would lost their exceptionalism? And for the question-why they made u thens? Maybe answer is in the Charlie Holloway answer to David's question- why we made him(robots)?

Shaw and Holloway are of the understanding that the mission is one of exploration and trying to meet the benevolent creators of humanity. A basic connection to the myth is that the real purpose of the mission is for Peter Weyland to attempt to gain longevity from those creators. And when he finds out those creators might be long dead, he has David steal an ampoule and even has him experiment on the crew with it to reach his goal. As it turns out, both Shaw and Weyland lacked the foresight (perhaps showing a quality of Epimetheus, in fact) to consider that the creators are so superior that they don't hold humans in any particular regard to even consider them. And, of course, at the end, Shaw actually steals one of the U-ships from the Jockeys...she's stolen some of their fire.

Just suddenly remembered about the black liquid and the Ampoule - what was that all about? where did that come from? and what was it for? I know it was in the crates, and by the looks of it they accelerated the worms into snakes... maybe this would be explored more in a second movie? - it reminded me a little of X-files back in the day.
