Prometheus untangled

Hi everyone! I've seen 'Prometheus' yesterday and I can tell you that the film was totally worth the wait! I wouldn't say it will make you forget the originals but comparing to today's Syfy films, it surely stands comparison! You'll find my understanding of the plot within these lines. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I can show you the doors which lead to some of them. /! If you haven't seen 'Prometheus', you might want to stop here and go back to the home page. /! Here are the scenes that may be confusing: - The opening scene: according to me, what we witness after the opening credits is a sacrificial ritual. We see a ship departing from an unknown planet. One of the crew members is left behind. He wears a kind of sacrificial toga, and takes it off before drinking what appears to be a lethal solution which eventually kills him. One may wonder why this sacrificial ritual? I think that the 'creator' guys move from planet to planet and perform this ritual. They do this ritual in order to breed new life forms. Could it be that the planet is the Earth? - Giant head in the rock: The creators came to the planet where the ship Prometheus lands. The carved a head in a rocky mountain to "show off". We came, we conquered! - David's experiment: Why the heck does David the robot contaminate Pr Holloway on purpose? The answer lies within these lines: "How far would you go to get your answers.. what would you be willing to do?". David's experiment is one way of satisfying his curiosity. And yes, the robot is curious! - The cargo of the creators' ship (the jars): This is a tricky one. In my opinion, the jars are either weapons the creators have found on another planet or weapons they have designed. - The video that David tries to send: The video of a girl playing violin is also seen at the end of the film, on the walls of the safety capsule. Could it be a young Pr Shaw playing violin? But why would David want to send it? Honestly, I chuck up the sponge here! Any thoughts on the video? - The last of the creator: Why is the creator angry? Why does he want to beat the crap out of everyone? When he awakes, he's disoriented but he quickly stands up. He then meets the crew of Prometheus.. When he hears David talking to him.. I think he's intrigued by David.. As he touches him he somehow realises that David is an artificial being.. at that moment, I think he's somehow jealous of the humans for having evolved and having been able to come to him. Maybe he interpreted David's abilities (the fact that he presumably speaks his language) as a sign of arrogance and couldn't stand it.. - The new alien: A lot of people on the internet seem to wonder why the alien we see at the end does not look like the aliens we have learnt to know. To me, that's kinda odd because when you know that the alien is simply a newborn, no matter it will grow up and evolve into what we know. What do you think? Does it make sense? I'll be thrilled to know your thoughts on my hypotheses. Please comment :)

The video David tries to send: I think the video contains information about the human race and its culture... imagine that you are going to another planet with intelligent life on it. The first thing you would probably do before entering on their home world would be to inform them about yourself and that you come in peace.

David's experiment: I agree with you on this but I also think there is another reason why he contaminate Holloway... You see, David is a robot created by Weyland and therefore also think of him as a father. But Weyland only sees David as his creation and not as a living creature with a soul that is supposed to be loved. When Weyland refers to David as a robot without a soul you can clearly see David's disapointment and shame. When Holloway then tells David that he was created by Weyland simply because he could it becomes clear to David that his father does not love him and David hates him for that. When David has a conversation with Shaw later in the film he says "Don't we all want to see our fathers dead" or something like that. I therefore think that he infects Holloway in order to sabotage the whole project for his father. I also think that he knew what was going to happen to them when he and Weyland went to talk to the Engineer.

oh, god, "I'm a real boy," that old chestnut again? I really think A LOT of the problems you're having with the film spring from this source, the writer of LOST. Once I discovered Lindelof had written THAT, I totally understood all the mind-numbing confusion of the narrative exclusions/lies. It was just a bit of convoluted cinematic deceit on the part of the jokester behind THAT (failure of a) series. End of...

FreePlanet: unless you have a theory for one of the questions above or perhaps a question of your own that you would like an answer to I surgest that you take your negative opinions somewhere else. I'm sick and tired of people who feel a need to complain about everything in this movie on every single thread that is being posted simply because it didn't live up to their expectations. Really hope you and everyone else understand this...

@Shaw's sweet baby: That's one way to see it. We have to bear in mind that David wanted to contaminate Holloway before hearing what Holloway had to say. He had one drip of the substance on his fingertip, remember? That being said, I pretty much agree with you. It makes perfect sense! @FreePlanet: I'm sorry but this is not a forum about Lost. We're trying to answer the questions that remain after the viewing of 'Prometheus'. If you want to talk about Lost, why don't you go to LostPedia? @Merc7: I meant an adult alien.. I don't think it might be the queen.. Do you guys think the planet on which Prometheus landed is the same as the one in the first film 'Alien'? I hardly think so..

i for one would like to thank freeplanet as i can know get on with other things that need doing and stop trying to make sense of things that do not and can not be connected sans lsd. writer = lost = ramblings of a man drinking sea water. prometheus is not in the pipe 5 x5. it has now broke for cover and on an express elevator to the banal I need not concern myself any longer as to the meaning of this film as it hasnt yet been thought of. Prometheus is just musings of a sensationalist "event twist" sap. such a shame... and im a true alien/ pred fan. All the ingredients of a fab cake then randomly thrown together and baked in a fridge i loved it for what it was not what it should / could have been.

I had a thought that the engineer's are actually trying to replicate themselves, and man is like the ugly duckling of their attempt. The engineer's want to reintroduce the black stuff to kill off man and start again. Their current lab seems to suggest they have progressed alot and they can create life that evolves at an incredible rate. The way in which the engineer killed David made it seem as though he was impressed as one might be with a child's drawing.... except the engineer just ripped the drawing in half and killed the child, so to speak...
