Having just watched promethous (no intention of using a capital letter as it does not warrant one!), and I must say. I am so disappointed in it. Don't get me wrong. It was well filmed and some great acting, however.... It claimed to answer questions yet it simply left me asking far more questions. There's various ideas floating about what the opening scene was about. According to wiki (and we all know how accurate that is!), that was how life came about. Hmmmm, at what point was that explained in the film? When was the black liquid really explained? Why did David (great acting) have the charactor he did? Was he programed to try and infect people given the chance? He seemed far more in control of his actions then what the androids did in Aliens (which was meant to be after promethous). Aside from the funny little alien at the end, how is it in anyway connected to Aliens? Aside from the fact its not meant to be on Earth that is! I notice that on the wall in the 'temple'/building on the planet that there's a picture of an alien as such. Why do we not see any other than 'said' funny little monster thing?! Why bother leaving the film as it did when a sequel to this is not 100% sure. It simply annoys and frustrates people know that so little was actually explained! The giant head, what was that about? I heard that the film would hint at what the creatures flying/driving the ship are at the start of Alien are, yet I did not find anything out. This is the first time I've ever felt urged to comment on a board like this but the film was simply not what it claimed to be. Its worth watching, but I would not waste money on the dvd, and if anything, it ruins the Alien(s) films knowing that such a film (prometheus) is associated to them. Mr Scott, am afraid the marketing DID ruin this film. If it was unconnected to Alien(s) then it would be a average film, however its simply no more than a excuse to sleep for two hours!!

Damon Lindelof should be held entirely responsible for this films failure to answer any of the questions we've been waiting for over the last 30 years. If you have ever been annoyed at how Lost or other TV series never give you an answer and keep leading you on to more questions...then you are not going to like Prometheus. Here are some examples.... Q. Who/what are the SJ's/Engineers? A. Don't know, the film doesn't tell you. You get to see them, but you don't get to find out "anything" about them. Q. Why did the SJ/Engineer attack the crew of the Prometheus? A. You don't find out, the film doesn't answer that, he simply attacks them and that's it. Q. What was the derelict space ships purpose? A. You don't find out, the film doesn't answer that question. You just find out that it carries lot's of black oil containers. So now we have a whole bunch of new questions on top of all the original questions we had!! With this in mind, the answers to these questions "could" be answers by watching the original Alien movie straight after watching Prometheus. And I'll tell you why, by examining this question again... Q. Why did the SJ/Engineer attack the crew of the Prometheus? Real Asnwer: In the original Alien movie the following conversation takes place when Ripley and Lambert are questioning Ash about the Alien: Ash: You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? Perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. Lambert: You admire it. Ash: I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. The alien in the original movie, is a direct descendent of the alien that burst out of the SJ/Engineer at the end of Prometheus, and so has all the qualities of a SJ/Engineer: - Structural perfection - Hostility - Purity - Survivor - Unclouded by conscience, remorse or delusions of morality. We can derive from this that the SJ/Engineers have these qualities which is why they look, act and attack as they did in Prometheus. Just like any form of life, the ultimate goal is to survive...and the SJ's/Engineers do it...perfectly, unclouded by consience, remore or delusions of morality. That's the answer Ridley "should" have portrayed in Prometheus rather than have a writer butcher what could have been a brilliant story.

I can't even imagine what the giant heads were about, unless they were just being stored there along with the black oil, and waiting to be dropped off on a planet at a later point in time. A story needs a beginning, a middle and an end...Lindelof has never done this with any of his screenplays or work, he only plants the seed at the beginning and then leaves it like that. He was quoted as saying "leave the details to the imagination". In choosing Lindelof, Ridley got it wrong...so wrong. LOL I'm pretty sure Londelof won't be involved in Prometheus 2 or whatever follows, as the general feedback from people in Europe that have seen the film is that it doesn't answer "anything". There's really no point to this film, it doesn't add anything to the "Alien universe". And for Ridley to try and justify that it is its own story, kind of makes me think he know's he got it wrong late in the production stage, and simply had to go with what he got. Having said all of this...it was a good film in its own right. Technically, it was better than anything else in recent cinema history. The 3D, cinematography, and other production qualities were a tour de force of the best of everything. They got that bit right, so right. lol
