Long post with a LOT OF MAJOR SPOILERS!! My view on the whole movie is as follows: 1) Engineers is granted with the gift of extreme DNA altering (black goo), either from another alien life form or through their own knowledge. Where they come from or how they know this is irrelevant. 2) Engineers look through universe after suitable planets that can sustain life similar to their own life form. "Earth" is found, probably one among many planets. 3) One engineer is chosen or volunteer to drink the DNA altering liquid (black goo) on earth to kickstart life in his own image. His ”pure” DNA is heavily altered and he is rapidly disintegrated. Engineer DNA spreads on earth. 4) DNA on earth creates life forms that become more and more like the engineers (human). 5) Engineers visits their "offspring" on earth on different occasions and is pleased. The "pre-humans" treats the engineers as gods, just as they expected and wants. 6) Visiting engineers creates marks (the five planets) to show the humans where they came from. It is not an invitation, just one way of showing their greatness to the inferior life form. Maybe one way of showing the heritage of the life form of this planet, if there are other ”black goo factories” that the engineers have. 7) Life on earth becomes more and more advanced, until humans are not so different from the engineers (like the "original DNA" left on earth by the sacrificial first engineer). 8) Meanwhile, the engineers on LV-233 are planning for another ”God”-journey to their planets off offspring. It is NOT a planned assult on earth to vipe out mankind. The black goo is NOT a biological weapon. 9) But just before take-off, something goes wrong in the engineers facility. Another small lifeform (perhaps the same earthworms as we see in the movie) is exposed to the black goo and speeds up the evolution-cycle. This new life form chases down the engineers, enter their bodies and killes them from inside. Only one engineer is saved, when he it put in the hyper-sleep chamber. 10) New life form dies due to starvation. 11) Humans creates new life form (AI and synthetic life like David) , and becomes gods of their own. 12) Humans find the five planets in caves, treats it as an invitation, build spaceship and travel to the origin. 13) Crew on Prometheus open door to the sealed chamber, changing the temperature and moisture. This makes the black goo come out of the containers. 14) Earthworms is exposed to the black goo and transformes them into the ”cobraliens”. 15) Cobralien kills Millburn by entering his mouth and bursting his chest. Cobralien accidently kills Fifield by acid in face. 16) Fifield falls DEAD into the black goo. This starts to transform some of the small organisms living in and on the human body (like bacteria, fungus and mites). Together these new lifeforms take control over the dead body, moving it around like a ”zombie”. 17) David gives Charlie a small amount of the black goo. His body starts to decompose (like the first engineer on earth) but also transforms other organisms on and in his body. Humans are not as ”pure” as the engineers. The worm in his eye is NOT the black goo itself, but a new lifeform. 18) Charlie has funtime with Elizabeth and some new organisms from him are transfered into her. This organisms inherit this genetic trait (growing inside human body). 19) Charlie is decomposing and his body is filled with new lifeforms. His life ends by flamethrower and takes it like a man. 20) Elizabeth removes the new lifeform, a facehugger-squid, from inside her with nasty surgery and takes it like a… woman. 21) Crew, with David and Peter Weyland, wakes the last engineer. At first he is surpriced and curious when his inferior children is standing inside his spaceship. 22) When David speaks to him in his own language, making questions about eternal life, he becomes angry. 23) The engineer discovers that humans are capable of making life on their own. David are capable of things that even the engineers cannot do. The engineer is furious because the humans has insulted their creator. He decides to kill the humans. 24) The engineer kills crew. Elizabeth releases the facehugger-squid which plants seed into the engineer. 25) A new lifeform, an ”Alien” bursts through the engineers body. This inherit some of the traits from the engineer, giving it head, arms and legs. 26) Some other engineers discover the new ”Alien” that have made eggs with facehuggers. They find the new life form interesting (maybe to use as a waepon) and decides to put the eggs on another ship and sends it away. But again, something goes wrong, and the pilot is caught by a facehugger. The pilot dies and the ship crashes on another planet. 27) The ship sends out a warning signal to other engineers to leave the cargo alone, a signal which Nostromo picks up in the movie Alien. What I cannot understand is: A) What is the meaning of the Alien-like statue or painting in the engineers big hall? B) What is the destination of the engineer ship with facehugger eggs? C) How and why does the first ”Alien” lay these eggs? I hope you enjoyed it. Sorry for long post.

mmmm very intesting ...however i think that the engineers should see that David is not exactly life but a machine

@StringerBell: 26 and 27 is my view of the connection between Prometheus and Alien, not a part of the movie. You should really buy more popcorn, otherwise you'll miss the nice parts in the movie :)

I thought the Engineer was actually quite happy when he seen David but was more annoyed by this greedy old man in front of his creator. Also do not think the Alien at the end, looked more queen like, it had the egg sack attached and the same mouth i.e 2 human style jaws?

Brilliant. Well put. Based on you analogy what did you think of the movie?

What about A) ? The Engineers knew about the xenomorphs. They are not a human side effect.

Well done, some of the best explanations I've seen so far. I'm still struggling with why the Engineer attacked the humans after being woken up and the relevance of the xeno mural in the Ampuel chamber though..

Good analysis, been trying to lay it down in my brain but by point 8 or 9 i'lI get a headache lol, when it's laid out like that it seems a lot simpler (or easier to ge to grips with). Think you might be a little bit off, I try working with the facts and try to see what the movie wants us to see without assuming, the SJ ? Alien seeing David as a created lifeform, then being offended by this is quite an assumption, a very good one that's trying to make sense of a pretty big plot hole, I havnt a better answer for it. I do think your spot on with how the black goo stuff transformed the worms, but theres a hole there, as why do these advanced SJ ? Aliens get owned by their own weapons ?, that whole scene can be explained by another scene in a sequel though I do think that the movie makes the point that the 2 SJ Aliens are different, which is another reason I dont think your story holds up because we'd have to assume theyre both the same ?.... it could be as simple as 1 was a science team and the other was a military, could even be that the SJ that was brought out of sleeping was seeded by the SJ Aliens at the beginning and is a more advanced cousin to us (humans) that found their way to the planet the same way we did, they dont like us because they find out theyre not the only ones and get an inferiority complex over it :) assumptions though. If we dont assume though I dont think we'll ever get an answer ?, and thats what's frustrating me about this movie, I loved it, massive fan of the Alien francshise also but for this movie to stand on its own I think itd need a sequel that will tye up the lose ends ? - Mainly A, B and C in your opening post - Along with explaining if there's 2 different SJ aliens or are they one and the same... and did they just become pissed off because humans created life or something else ? - Why do the SJ Aliens get owned by their own weapon ?, and why is it only then they find out it transforms the worms on that planet instead of blowing their heads off ?.... It also looks like the SJ Aliens died from the black goo rather than the worms too ?, so did they even know about the worms ?..... Seems like everyone on the planet died n all if theres loads of ships they can hop onboard and hijack to go star trekking 'cross the universe, those ships must have been left to rott n all, must be a reason why the other SJ aliens didnt want to do a rescue mission or someshit ? - Bit more explanation on how the 'bio weapon' works wouldnt be bad either, seemed rather similiar to the substance that created life on earth ?, which broke down that dude quite similiary to the revived head until explosion ?, we also know the eggs in Alien hatched when their was changes in the room (or by putting your hand through light), but was very similiar to this movie, but obviously the eggs were different, facehugger xeno's were laid when in this they looked like cannisters excreting liquid ? Saying 'I think this movie needs a sequel to stand on its own' seems a bit harsh because it is a fantastic movie, some of the scenes were epic and I thought Lindelof done a fantastic job at opening up the 'Alien' universe, It's just that if there is a sequel id like someone other than him to write it or have a say in what goes on, so they can tye off the lose ends because I have a feeling he'd create more questions than answers if he was going to do this again ? So, with all that said, any news on a sequel ? :), Heard its getting some mixed reviews so if this doesnt get one im going to be truely gutted :(

@Pulserifle: It really looked like an egg sack, now when I think about it. That may cover C) in my post. Thanks! @Movie.Monster: I'll give it a 8/10. Like the theme and pacing, well executed, but to much remains. Like watching half a movie. @xenox: I know... that annoys me, because in my point of view, the Alien was a birth through Elizabeth. Maybe they have had this experience before, but then why "worship" them? @captCHUNK: Interesting! But I'll always go for the shortest possible way of explaining things. I think the black goo/liquid is the same though out the entire movie. Why should there be two different types of same color liquid that reacts the same way? Similar, why should there be two different engineers/SJ:s? That is quite an assumption that we have different fractions that look the same but have different agenda. The "bio weapon" is not a weapon at all, but instead just a tool for speeding up biological development on the genetic level. When introduced to the perfectly pure engineers, we get human life forms on the smaller scale. When in contact with "unpure" DNA, we get nasty critters...

The SJ alien at the beginning had a different ship ? (tear drop) and wore underpants lol, the one that got brought out of hypersleep was wearing armour suite and they had the horse shoe shaped ship, it is an assumption but one that I think that was pointed out, and I didnt mean there was 2 different substances or black goo's, I was saying I *thought* the black goo looked like the goo that the SJ Alien at the beginning took, that subsequently broke him down and thought they both reacted in similiar ways ?, its just one blew your head off and the other made you melt, so thought that there was a link there in a life/death kind of contrast that was never fully revealed, or i missed ? lol, think saying that it only reacts to unpure DNA is an assumption n all, it blew off all the engineers heads, the only lifeform it reacted differently to was the worms ? (and the human tbh ?, altho we dont know if his head was bout to explode before he got hog roasted, the worms just evolved), I think itd be a safer assumption to assume it was a 'bio weapon' ?.... it is an interesting point however as ash in Alien bangs on about the purity of the xeno ?, pure survival or someshit ?, so you could be onto someting ;)

@captCHUNK: You've right about the appearences between the first SJ and the one in the factory/facility. They look the same, but I always thought that they had same spaceship... which they don't. I don't know the significance of the waking head that exploded. That didn't have anything to do with the black goo. Maybe it was to establish that you can alter the nerve system of another being to make it move (like Fifield was controlled)? Yes, the thing about "pure" and "unpure" DNA is a bit far stretched. I believe that in a way, the black goo was originally created by the engineers/SJ to use on them selves to procreate. When used on another life form with other DNA, then it cannot be controlled. That is what I mean with "unpure".

A nice rundown of things and I agree with everything but one very important point. The Xenos cannot be the result of anything that happened as a result of the mission to Prometheus and here is why. In Alien, they said the Jockey was fossilized, that it had been there for at least 2000 years, but the time between Prometheus and Alien is about 26 years? Not enough time had passed to make that a possibility. Everything else was pretty spot on though.

I thought it was directly related to the black goo ?, All those bodies of the SJ Aliens had holes in their heads ?, like they blew up the same way as the revived head ?.... which what im guessing was just showing what wouldve happened to him if his head never of got chopped off in the door.... and yep what you said about the goo creating life then being used to take it away was kinda what I was trying to say, just not when its used on different organisms, I just think they (The nasty SJ's) modified the life giving black goo to make it kill by transforming DNA but for some reason the worms were resistant and apparently evolved at X men rates, even all that is assuming though >:E.. but if those worms sex it up with other wormies before they died from the goo they would have evolved offspring ?, kinda like a worm face hugger, kinda what happened to Shaw having her wonderful baby.... squid :D but again all that was just glossed over in the story and that couldve been a very good bit of dialogue I thought. and athlondude, cheers for letting me know the timescale, I was unsure and knew it was before the events of prometheus but didnt know by how far, so wed also have to assume that 2000 years ago a human was impregnated by somone that had the black goo virus in them, which subsequently got out and hugged an SJ's face

@athlondude: I saw another post regarding the SJ in Alien. The crew from Nostromo said that it LOOKED fossilized. That process is something that happened on earth, with animals dying in mud and the mud turned into stone. There isn't anything that states that the SJ in Alien is 2000 years old. It can in fact just be a couple of years old, aging in the hostile environment.

@captCHUNK: If I buy your idea with two fractions of SJ:s, one that is peaceful and one that is violent, then it can go like this: The peaceful SJ:s travel around the galaxy, only using the black goo on themselves and thereby giving life to the universe. At the same time, another fraction of the same race is not pleased with humanoids popping up here and there with out their control. They use the black goo on different other small life forms and creates the xeno, either by luck or engineering skills. That's why they have a painting of the alien, their ultimate weapon. Before that can go to earth, accident strikes and the factory gets destroyed by the alien they created. BUT... why did the peaceful SJ:s make paintings around earth to show the humans where the secret weapon factory for the other fraction is? That makes no sense at all.

Why did they create life in the 1st place ?, they must have been peaceful at some point.... go off assuming again you can say thats why they havnt contacted us in so long or whatever, evil SJ's couldve overthrown the nice SJ's, but again whatever any of us says can be seen as right and wrong and thats why i hate this movie >:E

I believe the holes where in their chest. You miss understand the SJ have the black stuff in them and I think they live forever but can die. Don't forget when holloway goes the the alien wall and see the first stage of alien and looks at the green crystal in some sort of tomb. There is so much that is not explained in this scence as its cut short. GUTTED........ Questions are, what attacked the SJ that killed more than 12. Why this moon So many questions arrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh
