Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus sequel news

Should The next aliens movie be a big in depth 3 hour Dune style project ?

It looks like the profits are rolling in for this, so no doubt there will be big budget for the next one. Is it just me, but the aliens movies are sustaining longer than any other due to them hitting something really important in us ? The knowledge of our own selves (as a species) and the paranoia of what that could mean if out there in a more developed form, along with our current search for whats out there. Just having experienced these 3d other world landscapes was an experience in itself, Ridley really pushed this 3d medium so almost anything is possible (you did see it in 3d ?) for us to explore as a form of high art and philosophy, science etc. For now it seems cinema is the only place to explore these questions of our place in the universe and the reality of it (without star trek/wars human centric/dumb down view) in a really immersive manner, so these reasons are why aliens are important and enduring films. Surprising really its gone on so long and still growing stronger. Whats needed is a team of real depth brought in for the next movie with multiple big directors and teams of some of the top science futurists, spending a few years on it and bringing in lots of dimensions ? Blade runner had some of that. Except go up all the gears 3d and current hyper-real create anything visuals can bring. Something that opens up into a star trek, star wars universe, but more with a david lynch dune style, but retaining the dark humour, feel and big questions brought up in aliens which in case nobody noticed is progressing rapidly fast towards kubrick territory with this release.

Count me out for the next installment, or a Blade Runner sequel/prequel/whatever. I'm done with RS. Wake me up when Darren Aranofsky is directing.

Christ, people that liked this movie can't wait for the sequel! If it's good shouldn't we be talking about it? Instead people are looking ahead to a sequel to fill in all the blanks!

Actually Ridley did used the Dune style in the movie. The Facility has a dome form, which looks like Giger's sketches for the Dune movie

Imax next perhaps, just to get another gawk at the visuals, but if they had made a dune like depth/epic it would be visit to imax 3 or 4 times.

I'd be worried that the next one might be be beyond anyone's ability to conceive if they try to go beyond 2001, the Abyss, Contact... Those films point toward and hint at something bigger - something beyond the movie - but it sort of remains 'beyond'... Enigmatic. The viewer must fill in the blanks and try to imagine the unimaginable. If the solution to the mystery could actually be visualised i think it'd either: not be done any kind of justice - or just kill the mystery. Even D.Adams could only go as far as '42'. I get the impression a lot of people have a limited view of science fiction that doesn't extend back its bloom in the 70's or its potential for us an increasingly science centered society from a meaning and culture view. We have been playing around with science fiction long enough. Of course its good to have some enjoyment. hopefully advanced civilizations will have increased depth and humor. At least ridleys visual 3d world has revealed to us we have at our hands a seriously immersive theater for exploring major issues about ourselves and our place in the universe. Ridley took control of the 3d (and politics) at a deeper level but its subtle. Notice in pan shots how a lot of information is on defocus very carefully, so he can cram in more complexity. It looks like he had to use post production to keep adding blur so as scenes would be cohesive. Thats how much care he takes on making something watchable just at the sensory level. Most 3d cinema is either made simple for the fact our brain cant take it all in, or just fails and exhausts people too much so the scripts have to be simple. In Prometheus its possible to be deeply immersed in another reality thats taking cinema to another level sensory wise, and still focus on subtle interplays between characters (such that we can even perceive to criticize them). Again Ridleys other strength, character immersion, politics and interplay. Some of his best movies had Ridley digging into sensory and character overload. Duelists and blade runner, gladiator being good examples. This is what Ridley does, and he pulled it off again. Its amazing anybody can say he failed to do what he does best. No he doesnt provide a lot to the scripts. How can he, when hes working overtime trying to provide all the above, and progress the art of it ? He knows there is a limit to what he can do there, so tries to be careful about what scripts he directs. His flops are mostly him failing in those writing partnerships.

How many hours of film did Peter Jackson put in ? I dont care if Prometheus and sequel(s) go longer..., this concept needs one person to sweat blood and to hell with the studio, bean counters, and nay sayers. To do this justice it needs a visionary..., Apocalypse now almost broke the studio, and almost broke Copolla as a person, and almost killed Sheen, but look at it now, its flawless. Jackson had a vision of how the rings trilogy should be, and he didn't give a monkeys, he just made it against all those who said it was impossible. No plot holes in either one of those as i recall... I want Ridley to eclipse both because he deserves it after the panning he has had with past mediocrity..., C'mon Ridley, lets turn Prometheus into a generation changing trilogy

John
Sure but we were ignorant then by comparison to now, so they would just smoke dope and give up back then. You should get together with some current Artificial intelligence philosophers, scientists, astrophysicists. We are coming close to pushing the limit, in whats comprehendable. That is with the building of Ai at the quantum limit that theoretically allows us to approach a state ultimate knowledge of what the state of life would be anywhere, which is what some current writes like charles stross attempt, (if this is just the one universe of course :) )

@Prouty99: did you mean Coppolla and not Kubrick?

@ Shardy I stand corrected, and have edited my mistake :) Y'know, whatever happened to film making ? Kubrick, Coppola, Scorcese....New generation new ethics do you think ? Creativity doesn't need to cost shitloads of money, and inspiration/vision isn't dependant on profits i dont know where we went wrong, but i guess i'm a child of the sixties, and movies sometimes were made because the directors just needed to vent their ideas.....who would even contemplate making easy rider anymore ? Maybe i'm just getting old...

@Alienage11 I agree with your points about the viewer needing to fill in the blanks themselves using their own imagination, that has been used as a tool to great effect many times In this case though i would have preferred to leave one big blank, dont make the movie, and my brain would fill in the whole thing. My brain version would have cleaned up at the academy awards.....

I kind of agree with what's being said here, but I don't think we've seen the full and final version of Prometheus yet. As in another thread, I think we're going to get the full version at some point which will spend the time developing the whole of the film and all it's elements just that little bit more, allowing the audience to engage with and invest in the movie more. I'm totally not interested in sequels yet, as I really don't think we've seen the 'whole' of Prometheus yet. Bring it on.
