MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 5:08 PMI'm guessing most of you have read Gibson's Alien 3 script, which never came to be. I personally thought it was an amazing piece of work that had this potential to completely open up the imagination of the Alien Universe, rather that shutting the door on it as the real Alien 3 did.
The best thing about Aliens was that it expanded upon the Alien life form and brought depth and ideas to the table. It in effect advanced the species. None of the other movies really brought new ideas to the table, sans the Predalien queen in AVPR. Gibson's script, if made to movie, would've advanced the alien life cycle further while getting away from Ripley and making this a universe.
I have yet to see Prometheus, but i'm well aware that "other forms of alien" are present in this movie. I'm wondering, to those who have both seen Prometheus and been fans of Gibson's Alien 3 script, do you think this movie would've been done differently if Alien 3 was Gibson's story and would it be for the better?
I ask because i can see the Alien universe turning back toward Gibson's script if Prometheus and sequels branch out enough.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 5:11 PMinteresting... H an H, do you have a link to this script? I'd love to read it. I'm a little tied up here now, otherwise I'd search for it. If you don't have a link, that's cool too, I'll have to search for this later then. Cheers!

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 10:10 PMI read all the Alien3 scripts, including Vincent Ward's "wooden world" which I thought was excellent. How though do you think it expanded the Alien universe? What do you mean by that?

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 7:25 AMwhat are you guys talking about wooden world lol?
this is the script where hicks amd newt are fighting for survival on some rebel planet. they find alien dna on the sulaco and an alien virus develops that when infected can turn a human into an alien without impregnation. sounds like it ties into some concepts in prometheus.
unless i missed it, i didnt read anything about everything turning to wood.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 9:45 PMOh yeah, I remember that one. It was kind of like a detective story with Hicks as the lead. I read them all at the same time and sometimes they blur together. How did it end?

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:33 PMI just reread the ending for Gibson's first draft of Alien3. I liked it, but I also remember why I couldn't remember the ending. It was too similar to Aliens. It was like Aliens 2. It was probably what everyone was expecting to see. And that's cool. I like Hicks and Bishop and would've enjoyed to see them take the lead. And yes, it would've opened up the Alien universe with the new evolution of infection. But here's where we diverge opinions, H&H:
Alien to me has always been a human story, not an alien one. And after Aliens, it became as much about Ripley as about the Alien- storywise. So to advance the story (or close it as you say) you had to have the final act. Act 1 was the setup (Alien), Act 2 raised the stakes (Aliens), and Act 3 resolved the inciting incident set up by Act 1 (Alien 3). The perfect three act play.

Go look at the contents at the link. Vincent Ward was originally hired to direct. The Wooden World was his idea. Walter Hill and David Giler (and FOX) nixed it as impractical and a bit too "out there." So, Ward was fired. I think it could have been very "The Name of the Rose" and fascinating.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:31 AMI think Alien 3 was a great way to end the Trilogy... and went back to the survival horror theme of Alien. and not the Action flick of Aliens. (Although Aliens is great)
Also Alien 3 did expand on the Alien as a species. Showing how went it uses other species as host it has different characteristics. It was a great trilogy. different from many others in the scifi realm.
Alien Resurrection was suppose to spark a new trilogy hopefully they get a chance to finish that out and that ugly ass half/human alien was a 1 time deal. (josh wheton... why...)

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 8:02 PMIf anyone wants a PDF copy of Gibson's Alien 3 script I would be happy to email it to them. Send me a PM or drop me an email to culturebloc@gmail.com
I took the text into final draft and converted it to correct script format. Better than reading it online anyway.
Cheers
