June 05, 2012I think the point of that scene was so that nobody would be present in the control room when Milburn and Fifield met their cartoonish ends. Doesn't really make sense at all, though. You have two folks stranded in an alien structure and you are the only one monitoring them and you take a nookie break. This is the future, right? Don't they have communicators? Pagers? Intercoms maybe? So all hell breaks loose and nobody on the ship knows about it because the captain had to tap that ass. Unbelievable like most of the film's many plot holes.
