Fassbender homage?

mild spoiler ahead (of course, in the spoiler board, duh) : when david rescues shaw and holloway from the storm, he attaches himself to the humans and prepares to winch them to safety. he signals the two with a hand signal .. did anyone notice any homage / irony / whatsitcalled about the fact that fassmember is again holding up three fingers? :) (if this doesn't ring any bells, see inglourious basterds)
