I know this...

Portmanteau
MemberOvomorphJune 05, 2012717 Views19 RepliesI know this has probably been asked/answered already but I have noticed some people have seen the film already.
Would someone be so kind as to clarify whether the 'Space Jockey' is a suit for the blue tall men (I believe to be called Engineers) or a separate race/species/being altogether please?
Thank you.

You must be new. Anyone who hangs out on here should have known the answer to that question months ago......but it is funny how often people whine about it in their rants, as if it was some big revelation that disappointed them.

Hi artyoh,
I am new here and I can't say I'm not disappointed with the Space Jockey being a suit - but I'm not going to whine about it.

I don't know Artyoh, I still read at least one post a day asking why the SJ didnt die in the chair

Nothing personal Portmanteau......but it is interesting that the same people who claim that Scott has "ruined their childhood memories," apparently weren't actually interested enough to join a site like this at some point during the very long build-up to this movie. If they had, we could have saved them the trouble of going to see it, because those of us not in denial already knew that the SJ was a suit, that the movie wouldn't be a direct prequel, and that the juggernaut wouldn't end up as the "Alien" derelict.

@TheNextLV426
I know and it's maddening, because they only have themselves to blame for their disappointment.

The suit is an exoskeleton mecha suit which aids in all forms of activities and protection against the elements... including Aliens...

@artyoh
I wasn't implying that nor do I have any "childhood" exceptions surrounding the Sj to be dashed.
I knew the film wasn't a direct prequel to Alien & that fact alone won't deter me from going to see it.

Sorry Portmandeau, that wasn't directed at you.......there's been a great deal of overwrought sturm and drang from other new ( and some old ) members over the suit and the fact that the juggernaut isn't the same ship we saw in "Alien"......people who either weren't paying attention, or were in denial.
From the deniers, there were all kinds of convoluted theories about multiple races, warfare, etc.....anything to explain away the humanoid Engineers we all plainly saw in the trailers. It got pretty silly.

No worries artyoh, I can understand were you are coming from.
I just can't wait to see it for myself.

I hope we both enjoy it.
Did you know that test audiences for Bladerunner........:
The test audience rate the movie poorly demanding explanations of the story, why characters behave as they are and why is there a constant rain. After Denver/Dallas sneak previews (March, 1982), producers receive the first signals that the movie is probably not gonna bring commercial success as they wanted. The misunderstanding of the film and overall confusion of the audience, led producers to include the voice-over for theatrical release of the movie (June, 1982).
