yeah i'm pretty sure 90% of us were annoyed with that.....whats the word.......film????...... heres a lil forum for the geeky ones to get your thoughts out. my rant is below. apologese for the long read. Look forward to reading other views. --------------------------------------------------------- ok i know we all went in with high expectations. i admit I have most of the comics and novels of this universe. so the chance that geeky fans like my me been disappointed was pretty high. but the level of disappointment I got was completely unexpected. Ok from a geeky perspective there were a billion plot holes and no explanations to show the writers had put much thought in it. I'm not going to go into to much detail as I don't want to put to much spoilers out there. But the ending scene showing a kind of prehistoric early evolved facehugger thing making a early version of an alien doesn't really tie in with the rest of the universe. in Alien, the film is set not to long after prometheus. The pilot/engineer was fossilised in that. implying he'd been there for a long time. now how can the xenomorph we get at the end of prometheus evolve over that short a period into the zenomorph we are all familiar with, (i am presuming thats the route this is going otherwise what's the point of that final scene other than to tie it to the alien franchise, the facehuggers we are used to are certainly alot more efficient and presumably more evolved than that huge thing at the end of prometheus so to get from one to the other I'm presuming evolution would be involved). Secondly, i know alot of the AVP universe has been discounted but i'm pretty sure anyone else thats even vaguely into it accepts/likes the link of the predators hunting the aliens. hence why theres a skull in the pred trophy wall of predator 2. this again kinda implies the xenomorph we're used to has been around alot longer than we think. so how come there is an early less evolved form of it in prometheus which is set a long time after we first see this. lastly I know comics and novel aren't always considered cannon but they have done alot for the universe and this film contradicts alot of what they have built up so Ridley Scott has kinda just given all those other works the middle finger and said "im doing it my way". and lastly a few things that made me feel like it was only done for the money. ridley said he did say that he would have liked to make an 18 certificate but on paper that would have lost him 80million. ok. i can understand that fair enough. but then the last 20mins of the film all seemed geared towards making the sequel and setting up the rest of the new series. which made me feel like a large bit of the film was purely set up to make other movies and more money. ok we know things like this aren't done for free but no one likes it when its that obvious in cinema. Sorely disappointed in this. there was little explanation to the issues that came up and the questions the plot holes left your wondering weren't really interesting enough to make you need an answer or the answers you worked out contradicted with other aspects of the film. I just hope this isn't something like the "lost" tv show were they go into it without any real thought.

Nope i wont blame Ridley, he handles a lot of the video and filming from the camera on his movies and he did a fantastic job... The problem is the movie needed longer like 3 hours... and we just dont know if Ridley was not given the budget, time or even ability to go for a longer movie so i cant blame him for that. The other problem is the trailers and TV spots gave away too much, they was also cut sometimes in ways that hinted to a scene that would contain some tense moments that never happened.... prime example Janek asking why the hell is that door open and we see a door open..... This led us to think we would see some mutant, Engineer or other Organism actually get on board and make it past the Cargo bay... Sadly it was a edit and that Door scene was a harmless shot from the movie, mixed with what he said when he wanted Vickers to open the Cargo Bay doors to let the crew back in.... he said "why the hell is that door NOT open" .... the trailer took out the NOT! Again we dont know if Ridley had much to do with what the Trailers showed and i bet they showed a lot to drum up interest and attract the main stream audience as they know the Alien fans and Ridley fans would see the movie anyway... The 3rd problem is some of the plot had some plot holes and odd things and some maybe a bit too much ambiguity... (now i am not on about the Alien links, or what the Engineers was running from, why there was dead Engineers etc) just some other parts... And these few plot points that disapointed do have Lindelofs DNA all over them... So i dont blame Ridley for most of the flaws of the movie, but saying that, thats not to say the movie is full of them. There is potential for Prometheus 2..... i just hope Fox give Ridley more cash, more time and if he wants a 3 hour movie to tell/explore his ideas then give it him. Oh and i would like to see Ridley use more of his genius in the movie and not have large portions of the plot revamped by Lindelof... infact drop Lindelof all together.... maybe join forces with JJ Abrahams or Peter Jackson these guys are very good, not quite Ridley Scott good, but a damn sight more than Lindelof.....

@bigdave I don't think prometheus suffered from a lack of cash. The problem was more of a lack of decent writing and editing. For Prometheus 2 they need to spend more time and effort getting the basics right

@gorman the script doesn't work for me. It has some good ideas but fails to pull them off. The poor writing alludes to poor character creation and unbelievable character actions On top of that, I like a film to pose some questions but i don't expect to have to second guess the movie at every step.

Watched the movie for the first time today, absolutely loved it. Though I still believe that Aliens is the best of the series, Prometheus comes a close second. So no, I won't be hanging Ridley, thank you very much. If I had even 1/10th of his creative talent I'd be happy.

I don't want to hang him, I just won't see the movie again or buy it on bluray if it turns out to be bad. You voice disappointment with your money when it comes to the film industry.

Gorman - that description has way to many maybes, if's and buts to sit comfortably with me. one hole in that theory which again is from the comic/novel/surrounding material is that zenos can turn into a queen them selves under certain circumstances so that should there be no other queen about, or they can turn an egg into an egg that will produce a queen impregnating face hugger, or in the alien directors cut they can turn any organic material (a human in this case) into an egg. BigDave - i think your right. Mr Lost was probably the main reason for alot of the faults. but come on ridley scott man!!! if he wanted he could have said "i want the film to last 5 hours and I want the aliens to start line dancing at the end". Scott could have changed anything he wanted on that film and people would have listened. Vangelis - this film on its own doesn't comfortbly tie in with the others. theres to many loose threads. Scott already in an interview after the film was quoted saying "It wasn't my cut". At 74 years of age and a nearly 50 year career, that is just a lame excuse from ridley scott. I'm sure if he wanted to make changes, they would have been incorporated.

^ basically this has alot of holes to fit with the rest of the universe and it seems like if they are making a new trilogy, there is a hell of a lot of plot holes to fill before there is something that will stand on its own merit next to the other films.

Mountain1985- "one hole in that theory which again is from the comic/novel/surrounding material is that zenos can turn into a queen them selves under certain circumstances so that should there be no other queen about, or they can turn an egg into an egg that will produce a queen impregnating face hugger, or in the alien directors cut they can turn any organic material (a human in this case) into an egg" I see what you mean, the deleted scene from Alien would hint that the Xeno was creating a new hive. And thus either Dallas or Brett were turning into a queen egg. Therefore But, on the derelict, the SJ was the only life form on board. Whatever Xeno hatched out of him did not decide to turn him into an egg. Therefore that did not happen in Alien. Also, where would the sudden mass increase in eggs come from? Dallas and Brett were turning into one egg each. UNLESS the Xeno that hatched from the SJ killed a whole crew ofSJ's on board the derelict and turned them into eggs, that amount of egg creation would not be possible. Finally, the arrangement of the eggs on the ship was neat and in a storage chamber. It wasn't in a hive with the eggs stuck to the wall like in the deleted scene!!!

In fact scratch the title of this thread. to be honest i think alot of the blame should go on Lindelof but ridley should have known when to take control and stop things. he's done it plenty of times in the past. It's this that gives me a slight glimmer of hope from this big disappointment that the other films in this new series will explain alot of the faults of this. (unfortunately there is a few common sense things and bad acting that can't be swept under the rug though) Saw this in another thread and it voices most of our opinions spot on i think Hitler hates prometheus

Gorman how do you know that was the only SJ on board? the ship in prometheus had at least 4 hyper sleep pods in the cockpit area. whats to say a xeno in the original alien film didnt turn a SJ's crew into eggs aswell???

^ that explains the SJ crew been killed of but maybe they were transporting eggs in the first place so they were already in there. Giger originally envisigioned the ship to be some sort of bomber. dropping eggs on a world to remove it of all life.

I would agree with the ship looking like a bomber to drop the eggs off and removing all life. I think that one of the eggs ended up on the SJ driving the ship. That's what is inferred in Alien anyway. Surely that fits into the theory of a "controlled" laying of the eggs. SJ's used a third party, or bred a queen, to do this. Its pretty much impossible based on facts from the Alien universe that whatever hatched from the SJ layed the eggs. We saw that humans and black goo create facehugger. Therefore black goo and egg laying creature could create the face huggers we know from previous films. These creatures are used by SJ's to breed Xenos.

Obviously transporting eggs is a quicker process for destroying life than transporting the ampules, as it has one less stage to go through and is a lot of faff waiting for the intended creatures to reproduce. I think the LV-233 is a black goo production planet for Xenos. They transport the ampules of black goo to other places to infect other creatures which lay the face hugger eggs. Then they transport the eggs to the worlds they want to destroy. The secondary effects of contact with black goo of turning into zombies/accelerating evolution etc are just a nasty bi product of Xeno goo!!
