So riddle me this....the spetagraph...kind of a "game changer". I have not seen the movie, so I am not sure how its use is explained (away) and there has been no discussion on the topic that I have found on this site, but wouldn't they have had that in Alien. The crew of the Nostromo is a mining vessel, might be necessary for finding any nefarious "critters" on the rocks they are chewing up and bringing on board. Your thoughts. The Outer Veil was the location of Thedus. A mining installation where ships like the Nostromo were assigned to haul the automated refinery back to Earth. The Nostromo was a commercial towing vessel. On this particular trip it was bringing a refinery back to Sol. Though a work of fiction, I've no doubt that they had an entire bevy in instruments available for use.
