Is Proto-Alien in last scene the fabled "Progenator" abandoned from "Alien 3"?

Having seen "Prometheus" over the weekend here in the UK and thinking about the film since then, was the proto-alien we see crawl its way out of the body of the Engineer in the life-boat the fabled "Progenator" Alien that was created for Vincent Ward's "Alien 3"? It looked like a very sleek version of the beast we know and love and could explain how the species kick-started. It also looked very similar to the heiroglyph that the astronauts found at the rear of the "head" room. The only gripe with the film was what the hell was the Engineer doing at the beginning of the film?! Was he sacrficing himself so his DNA would mix the Earth-bound material? Was he left behind by the "Saucer" vessel? Was it Earth? Otherwise, roll on any sequel and a possible glimpse of the Engineer's homeworld.

Yes, I believe it was intended to be Earth, and yes he was the source of life. I have no comment about the Alien created for A3, because I've not seen any pre-production artwork for that film. But I have to say that the new Xeno, looks great, and seems mighty pissed off : )

I do not believe this is an alien we have ever seen. The xeno from alien 3 came from a dog from my knowledge, unless I am missing what you are saying. Yes, the engineer was sacrificing himself to create life on Earth. Notice how he looked at the ship but it did not begin to leave until he has drank the goo.

I thought the sacrifice scene was beautiful - awesome. It was a sacrifice pure and simple... why? Who knows BUT we humans have done it through our history - with or without choice (Mayans, Aztecs etc etc)... HE WAS being watched by the saucer - as if making sure he did it... then it flew off - I found that creepy...

In regard to the "Progenator" read the Vincent Ward screenplay online. Ripley and the android character on the wooden world discuss how the alien they have encountered is different to all the others. They coin the phrase progenator as this male version can generate eggs without a queen. Also was the "Lovecraftian" creature an oversized facehugger?

@RH I too thought the scene was beautiful. I was engrossed. There was something about the Engineer's face, wrong word to say that it was beautiful? The ship just hanging there, waiting to leave. Great scene. Gary
