Engineers angry with Christians

Here's a little theory that just flickered through my mind... The Engineers head was dated around 2000yrs old by Shaw, putting the plan for destruction of all humans to around the time of Christ's birth and subsequent following? Perhaps the Engineers were angered that humans now had a new God in their own image and seeked to "reset" the scenario? I'm also a bit buggered up by the cave paintings tho, perhaps the engineers left them so that they could be worshipped/visited eventually?

I think it is a leap to far as the film is set in 2089, and not that much happened of note in AD 89.

I think 2000 years ago is to make you think it is Christianity/Jesus etc . I myself think we are guinea pigs for the engineers for this goo,as we have the same DNA.

No but the "good book" was well underway by then, and after all Shaws equipment may not be exact to the year

But the death of the engineers marks only the date that their experiment went wrong. It doesn't say that they were back on Earth around that time. Also, the whole basis of Christianity, that god made Adam, doesn't hold much water in a universe where giant space jockeys go around seeding worlds. (not that it was ever on a credible footing anyway). Besides, there were plenty of competing religions at the time, and Christianity didn't get big for quite some time after 33 A.D./CE prior to that it was a small sect among many. I hope they don't drag christianity any further into this story than they already have. They could excuse Shaw's cross as being just the faith her parents happened to believe and it broadly represents most monotheistic faith in humans, with the whole single (and allegedly benevolent) creator concept.

I think that's just leftovers from the very first script. See the thread here: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/6926

Good thing they don't get reception of FOX news, then they would have definitely come to wipe us out.

i can imagine it will spark some controversy (perhaps deliberately) in religious circles in the US, who will see it as an attack on christianity, by supplanting the biblical god, with some 10 foot tall menacing albinos.

@Hadley's Hope I think most people in conservative religious circles will see the Engineers as just another example of secular illegal aliens wanting to destroy the christian way of life. lol

I´ll just copy and paste here something I said in another, and very similar, thread: "I also have started a thread where I advanced @Entropy608´s option three [NOTE: that boils down to the Christianity involvement in Prometheus universe]. But I hope with all my forces that this is not the case. For many reasons. One of them being of coherence: if Jesus was a disguised blue giant sent to Earth to taught us a lesson of peace, love and understanding, why in the hell us killing him would make the Engineers going postal? Wasn´t the death of Jesus, in some sense, a piece in God´s bigger plan? Besides they could be wanting to exterminate us by the opposite reason. Firmly standing not in the business of peace, love and understanding, our hellbent Engineers could have thought of us, by developing Christianity, a bunch of sissies not worth of the glorious bloodletting existence of the warrior. Specially the kind of warrior that seems to see beauty in very ugly xenomorphs bursting from their own insides. We can fire at will, of course, but I still prefer my own explanation: they are very advanced technologically but their culture is one of a cult, a sacrifice cult that worship a beast (the xeno). And they created us to be like cattle for the sacrificial ritual. Have you heard of "hecatombs"? That´s what I think was in their minds in coming to Earth two thousands years ago. But that´s just my two cents."

Indeed I started my own "theory thread" (hasn't everyone) and this was the conclusion I ultimately came to. Imagine my surprise when someone posted an interview with RS which confirms that the exact scenario I came up with was one of their original ideas for the plot of this movie. I think they left out spoonfeeding you the Jesus bit and instead left one little nugget to tie it all together, namely, the age given for the dead engineer they find. Thread is here: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/6862 Obviously this is all just conjecture, but I think it's interesting that one could arrive at exactly the scenario described by RS himself with a little bit of thought. Personally, if that is supposed to be the "answer" to the mystery of why the engineers were going to destroy us, then I think that's pretty lame.

I'd agree, if that's their reason to destroy us then they're quite aggressive narcissists, is that what makes them so advanced? The original Prometheus legend is all about punishment, I'm looking forward to the sequel but without Lindelof, he wasted enough of my life with LOST!
