Help me understand (spoilers)

Yeah, a lot of what was said in interviews and featurettes seems to have been very misleading.

Yeah I reckon.....Do the words "Prometheus is a ground-breaking mythology" ring a bell.....I understand that they wanted to keep the film secret...but it's not cool when they talk up their product as if it's going to be some kind of cinematic revelation, and then dosen't deliver.....*sigh* that's advertising for you.......and Hollywood for that matter...

Who knows...
Maybe it was so we would understand that the events of Prometheus created a Xeno type Organism we can then assume that a simular chain of events in the past could have created the Xeno....
But then again this Organism may had been intended as the Xeno Progenitor, but if so whats with the Xeno looking Mural...
You see it keeps things open....
This Organism could be explained as...
1) The Proto Xeno, and thus this creature eventually leads to the creation of the Xeno from Alien.... but would this be explored in a future movie as doing so, well basically does not steer away from Alien and the Xeno but more towards it.
2) Is this Organism a new Xeno and not the same as the one in Alien i.e did the one in Alien happen a long time in the past... again for someone who wants to avoid the Xeno, if he follows the route of such as a new Organism, then we follow the path of a new creature that is simular and maybe not as iconic as the Xeno.... again is avoiding the Xeno for another Xeno looking creature really fresh?
3) The creature will be either of above but we wont know as we will never get any answers on that matter and thus we are left to assume as i have in 1+2

"Maybe it was so we would understand that the events of Prometheus created a Xeno type Organism we can then assume that a simular chain of events in the past could have created the Xeno...."
If they had done that in a way which didn't need such a "hello fanboys" Xeno it would have worked.
As Big Dave suggests, just enough for you to deduce "ah yeah thats probably how the xeno was formed" whilst being part of a broarder and distinct plot that would have worked IMO.
The problem is that when you work to a pre-determined end point (the xeno, or indeed the engineer on LV426) without a strong idea or reason to explain it, well whats the point? Its so bland.
Its also clear that RS and DL thought very carefully from a commerical point of view how much to give away in this film. This makes me think this film could and should have been better.

@BigDave. While I agree with everything your saying regarding the potential origins of the Xeno, what I'm getting at is that the inclusion of the proto-xeno seems kind of redundant since it resembles so much of the classic Xeno. I mean, they may as well have just used the classical Xeno instead of the proto-Xeno. It would have given roughly the same effect and also would've given a concrete explanation on how the Xeno came to be...instead of going off on a tangent leading to ambiguity.
